Is it okay to wear a dress for scan?

I know this sounds mental but it’s supposed to be 40 degrees tomorrow and I can’t imagine wearing anything on my lower half. This is my second baby, I’ll be 13.5 weeks and already have a pretty obvious bump, so no shorts etc fit me to be able to put on underneath.

This isn’t going to be a problem is it? 😂 Surely they’ll give me something to cover my dignity!?

They'll offer or have some paper roll you can tuck into your knickers or just cover yourself with. They won't mind though

If you have any stretchy tights you could make some chub rub type shorts by chopping off at mid thigh level. They're pretty comfortable and can help keep cool in the nether regions!

I'm a midwife and trust me we will not care! Go in a dress and you will be given a little sheet to cover your pants.

Regenbogen22 · 17/07/2022 20:38

Lol, where I am you go in, the doctor tells you to completely strip below the waist right there in the room.....there are no gowns or towels or anything 😅
You get used to it and it becomes so much easier than rearranging clothing and trying to hide your knickers 🤗

Hope the scan goes well!

At my 20 week scan she asked me to pull my jeans down to my thighs so it would have been the same as just sitting there in my pants anyway, the dress will be fine!

Okeydoky · 17/07/2022 21:08

Why on earth would anyone bother buying a pair of shorts specially, or indeed fashioning a pair from tights, to save the sonographer the horror of seeing a pair of legs and some knickers?

DottyLittleRainbow · 17/07/2022 21:22

Wear the dress, be comfy, the sonographer will absolutely not care.

CharlieAndTooManyCharacters · 17/07/2022 22:54

I wouldn’t even worry about wearing ‘big knickers’. It’s a sonographer in maternity - I doubt they even notice underwear!

Cakecakecheese · 18/07/2022 12:35

I only ever wear dresses so they just give me paper roll to tuck in, it's never felt awkward.

lovemelongtime · 18/07/2022 12:57

Not quite sure how seeing a pregnant woman in knickers would be embarrassing for anyone. Jeez they will see a lot more than that in 9 months.

L0ts · 18/07/2022 13:06

@lovemelongtime I suffer very badly with anxiety and a panic disorder so very often than not I tend to over thing scenarios. But thank you for your entirely unhelpful comment 🙂

Had my scan today and everything was fine, nothing to worry about regarding dress and baby is perfect… thank you everyone 😊😊

I always wear a dress to scans! If you’re worried next time you could wear a dress that buttons all down the front, then you only have to undo the affected buttons in the middle.

lovemelongtime · 18/07/2022 21:10

Glad your scan went well. Sorry that we don't always immediately think that people have anxiety. We can only post based on our own experiences. Sorry you suffer so much with anxiety, but I didn't know that.

catsnore · 18/07/2022 21:35

I've come to the conclusion that to most medical personnel you are literally just a body and they have absolutely no opinion on how you look or anything like that. Wear whatever you are comfortable in during your pregnancy and birth! I remember being a bit paranoid about being hairy etc
But was a waste of worry if you see what I mean!

After my second baby a doctor came in to stitch me up, he then ended up managing blood loss and then sent me into theatre etc. I met him again a few days later as I was readmitted with high blood pressure. He didn't remember me at all. Literally just had a blank face. It's just another day for them, even if it's a big thing for you.

I see you have already been but just to add I pretty much exclusively wear dresses (hate anything around my waist) and wore dresses to every single maternity appointment.
No one batted an eyelid and they just shoved some tissue down my knickers :)
