Has anyone tried kinesiology tape for bump aches and pains? I bought some today and it seems there are various ways of applying it to give support.

CurlyNo2 · 28/08/2022 21:23

Eurgh! I have really bad muscle pain at the top/left side of my bump. The burn is killing me, especially when I sit down. It’s not that bad if I’m standing up, but then when I’m walking, I feel so much pressure down below, that the baby may actually fall out.

I’m so big at 27+4, people keep saying to me, ‘ooh not long now’ and I’m like actually I’ve 12 weeks left!!

I went to get some pile cream today from the pharmacy and they refused to sell me it as I need to get it off my GP or midwife.

I would be really interested in this, I used to use the tape for running injuries and it always helped.

Did you apply it yourself?

Dontbeaneejit · 28/08/2022 22:14

Yes to the tape. My sister swore by it during her last pregnancy and gave me the rest of hers. I was doubtful at first but I used it all through our holiday when we were on day trips or doing a lot of walking and I found it actually made a big difference and was far less bulky than a full velcro support which I've also used in the past. I taped two strips up each side of my bump in V shapes. I left it too long at first but once I got the measurement for my bump right and cut it short enough it actually offered really good support. It's definitely worth a try anyway!

Dontbeaneejit · 28/08/2022 22:15

Sorry that sounds like I left it on for too long. I mean I cut it too long and then slowly made it shorter until the stretch took the weight of my bump. They do say you should use it for long periods of time same as the velcro supports but I left it on for the majority of the day.. not sure if I should have but I've not noticed any adverse effects from it

Dontbeaneejit · 28/08/2022 22:16

*shouldn't use it for long periods!! Brain fog anyone?

tb4122 · 28/08/2022 22:17

@CurlyNo2 I haven't applied it yet but I was planning to do it myself. I found quite a few YouTube videos for guidance and I was going to try this one:

I've never used it before for anything else but I'm hoping it supports the bump and doesn't just hold my belly fat in a different position...!

tb4122 · 28/08/2022 22:21

@Dontbeaneejit that's really good to know. It sounds like you need to stretch the tape a fair bit to get the support? I've read several sources that say you can wear the same tape for several days and still shower etc.

Dontbeaneejit · 28/08/2022 22:35

Tbh I've not really read up on it much. My sister gave me the rest of her role and a very brief tutorial of how she wore it and I just went with that lol. You do need to keep it quite short but I guess that depends on the size of your bump so you'll probably have to go by trial and error. Point about belly fat though I did find that my extra tummy chub squeezed out between the strips and gave me a very odd looking bump 😂 but once I had a top on it wasn't really visible it just felt a bit odd when I did any subconscious bump stroking. It would remind me it was there again. Aside from that I pretty much forgot I was wearing it. I found after a day the edges we're starting to peel a bit so I don't think it would have survived the shower but it could have been the quality of the tape or the strain of holding my ENORMOUS bump 😂 10 weeks to go and I feel like I'm 50 weeks pregnant!

greenerfingers · 29/08/2022 07:07

@Dontbeaneejit the tummy chub made me chuckle. That would be me! I'm tempted to get some now and give it a try.

@NotAdultingToday I hope you're feeling better. As Pp mentioned at least your little one is getting the worst of chicken pox out now and not after the baby. Or giving it to the baby as a newborn too. As for your DH you can't really control whether he gets it now or not, that's not really your fault for waking him and needing him. Is there any family you have who can help you? Have you checked the best ointments for chicken pox? My friends little ones got it and were better within 3 days or so of feeling poorly. The rest were just spots and being contagious. She swore by an ointment, I can ask for you?

greenerfingers · 29/08/2022 07:09

@CurlyNo2 I've found a trick! I hope it helps you too. When the rib/muscle pain gets too much I stop whatever I can and lay down with my feet and legs elevated. After an hour or so of this it disappears or lessens. All day I'm constantly having bed breaks. Sitting is the culprit. If I sit even a short while I get it so so bad.

Bramblecrumble22 · 29/08/2022 08:24

Bump support- I've not bought anything as I'm not too achey. One day recently though I tied my cardigans round my waist, under my bump when it got hot and it made it so much more comfortable, I hadn't realised. A bit like taking off a heavy backpack.I may need to invest in something as it didn't look great. From what I've heard, the risk of wearing a support too long is the baby not being able to get into a good birth position. but if a support keeps us active and comfortable, likely outweighs the risks.

Baby brain- I returned too small school uniform on Monday (paid for signed for postage is it's a rubbish, rip off company) only to find last night a polo shirt I had intended to return in a different postage bag. I did try selling it locally before returning. Will try again.

TFMinx · 29/08/2022 09:24

@GeorgieEm Just had a call from the midwife on Day Assessment. She’s going to review my b12 and iron levels today with a look to starting treatment on Wednesday, whichever form that will take (tablets or injections) so no need to go into Day Assessment

NotAdultingToday · 29/08/2022 10:07

That is very true that he gets it now and at least i can focus my full attention on him. It would have been nice if hed waited until i had got over covid first 😂 or earlier in the summer because now i have the worry if he will be able to start school on time 🤦🏼‍♀️

@greenerfingers thats very kind thank you, though i have two creams and an oat bath stuff which seems to be working. I just had to sneak piriton into him via hot chocolate as he refuses point blank to have medicine!

@Bramblecrumble22 at least shes not in pain and managing to sleep bless her.

Where i have been coughing so much i have pulled a muscle in my bump, i have to hold it when i cough but apart from that i havent had many other pains

That's good to hear @NotAdultingToday hopefully the tablets will sort me out 🤞

sarahj878 · 29/08/2022 13:22

@NotAdultingToday hope your DS recovers quickly from chicken pox. Mines not had it yet so thinking of getting the vaccine. @Bramblecrumble22 hope your DD recovers from broken arm quickly too

Random question but has anybody bought or seen in person the Obaby Nika nursery furniture? Thinking of ordering online and can’t decide between white and oatmeal, pictures aren’t clear online of how pale the oatmeal is or if the wood is textured which is what I wanted. Thanks!

FishyBaby · 30/08/2022 07:54

Im all set for my GTT today although I'm not looking forward to the fact that they're also going to do my routine bloods as well!

Had a bit of a scare yesterday, whilst dismantling the spare room furniture (soon to be nursery) one piece bumped into my bump. I'm not sure whether I needed to get it seen, but figured I'm in today in case and will ask them.

The first due of my currently pregnant friends was admitted at the weekend and looks like she will be having a C section today (quite early), it's becoming scarily real that we will all be mummy's soon!

Kaykiscout · 30/08/2022 09:08

@sarahj878 we got the chicken pox vaccine for our toddler. I've seen horrendous photos and stories of kids with it and would like to spare her the suffering of something that's likely to be contracted at some point! And quite honestly the saving of her not missing nursery/school and me missing work is huge compared to the cost!

NotAdultingToday · 30/08/2022 10:05

Morning everyone i dont know if anyone has seen but Boots have a baby event on at the moment, and on top you get 15% of £30 spend. Im getting a few bits save a few pennies and you get points.

@TFMinx thats good 😊

Ds is doing ok so far just very spotty snd itchy bless him. I keep showing him my chicken pox scar on my head as a warning not to itch 😂

@FishyBaby how hard did it hit your bump? Im sure it will be ok 😊 Ds jumps on me alot and so far the only one hurt is me!

Just been for my 28 week appointment and I’m measuring 1 week ahead. I have to wait till my 32 week appointment to see if bump size has changed and then possibly be referred for a growth scan. I had regular growth scans with my son as I was always measuring 2 weeks ahead but he was only 8.2lbs.

Also, but of fun, the babies heart rate was 150bpm. I have had a gut feelings all along that it is a girl, according to old wives tales, this would be accurate.

Kaykiscout · 31/08/2022 13:02

@curlyNo2 2 weeks ahead of what? Based on growth scan measurements and time she had left to grow I was expecting a 10lber and she popped out 7lb 7oz! The measurements are such rubbish but LOVE all the extra scan pics so I go for them anyway 🤣

CurlyNo2 · 31/08/2022 13:16

I was always measuring large for my weeks. So at 28 weeks measuring at 30 weeks etc every time until he was born. I was at the hospital practically every 2 weeks getting extra scans - I loved it!

They got it wrong as he wasn’t huge as predicted. I’m not worried as it means I may get to see baby again.

Elle1709 · 31/08/2022 19:15

I've having growth scans as well as they said the baby may be small due to my BMI, but they said at the last one the baby was measuring heavier and bigger than average for my number of weeks but that it was still within normal range. I got a bit worried about the growth charts and the percentile predictions, but it seems to be all just guess work from your experiences. I'm also really enjoying the extra scans, I'm due my next one on Tuesday for 32 weeks 😀

Kaykiscout · 31/08/2022 20:46

@Elle1709 it's definitely a guess. I read it can be 15% either way and relies on everything being exactly the same at every measuring.

Baby can gain around 1/2lb a week from 36ish weeks and normal gestation is anywhere from 37 to 42 weeks (some can go longer but it is unusual and could just be poor "due date" dating to begin with!) so don't let them push you into an early exit with the growth scans if you don't want it, baby might just need more time to cook ❤️
