Hi ladies. I've just found out I am pregnant! I think I'm about 3 weeks meaning I'll be 10 weeks when we get married. I don't want to tell anyone at all until the 12 week mark but I am petrified about starting to show by 10 weeks? My wedding dress is really fitted and I'm worried someone might guess! Will I start to show by 10 weeks? I can't afford a new dress and I don't know what to do :( please help!!! X

You won't be showing by 10 weeks, baby will still be tucked into your pelvis. You might find that you're quite bloated around that point so you may need to see if your dress can be let out a tiny bit. Congratulations, I hope it all goes smoothly for you.

motogirl · 12/06/2022 12:48

You may feel a bit snug but you won't be showing, a pair of cycling shorts under your dress will help

Chihuahuahuas · 12/06/2022 12:49

You shouldn't be much (if any) different at 10 weeks.

Will people notice you aren't drinking? That would be the biggest give away if you usually do have a tipple.

Hugasauras · 12/06/2022 12:49

You won't be showing so early but you might be a bit bloated and suffering some first trimester symptoms.

Chihuahuahuas · 12/06/2022 12:49

Or have a look at some shape wear.

Bearwiththehairs · 12/06/2022 12:50

You won’t be showing but people might be wondering why you aren’t drinking.

Maybe OP doesn't drink? It says a lot that the expectation is everyone drinks alcohol. I wonder if this will ever change Sad

RebeccaCloud9 · 12/06/2022 12:53

I have friends who only knew they were Pg at that stage because of the test. Not showing, no symptoms. I on the other hand, was puking every day, felt rough 24/7, could barely get out of bed, had put on weight because of bloating and having to eat to stop the vomiting.

So be prepared to go either way, or anything in between.

I stopped puking the day I started taking antihistamine, so remember that tip if you are feeling sick!

Even if you feel rough, it's amazing news and will be a lovely memory.

PP you quoted says that people 'might' wonder. Yes of course they might.

Untwist your knickers.

RaspberryChouxBuns · 12/06/2022 12:56

I'd be more worried about the pregnancy sickness tbh. If you're anything like me at 10 weeks (I've had three pregnancies) I was in the throes of HG and extreme tiredness, I could barely get up. I sincerely hope you're not like me. As for showing, if it's your first you won't show. If it's your third then you might need another dress.

AnIckabog · 12/06/2022 12:56

You should be fine in your dress at 10 weeks unless you have having twins. When you say three weeks, do you mean it is only a week since ovulation and conception, or do you mean it is 3 weeks from conception? If the former then a strong positive this early can be a sign of twins (sorry, I don't want to panic you!) If the latter then you are technically 5 weeks pregnant now because it is counted from your last period and will be 12 weeks by your wedding but still unlikely to be showing.
I'd be more worried about pregnancy sickness - if you are sick, then ask the GP to prescribe anti emetics even if just to get you through the day.
If you are going somewhere exotic on honeymoon, check whether it is advised for pregnant women.
You'll be fine. How exciting, a wedding and a baby, congratulations!

You have massively misunderstood my post. I was referring to that poster assuming OP drank alcoholS not what others might think at a wedding.

Also, your snide remark doesn't make you better than me, in fact it lowers you a bit.

RaspberryChouxBuns · 12/06/2022 12:57

Appletiser in a champagne glass will see any suspicions off.

RaspberryChouxBuns · 12/06/2022 12:59

And congratulations btw, what a whirlwind but a lovely thing. Enjoy it all x

ChagSameachDoreen · 12/06/2022 13:03

You shouldn't be showing by 10 weeks.

If you drink and it would be conspicuous if you didn't, just hold a glass of champagne and people will think you're imbibing!

JamMakingWannaBe · 12/06/2022 13:05

I'd be more worried about swollen boobs than your stomach showing.

Most people do drink alcohol, especially at an event like a wedding. It doesn’t mean everyone is getting wasted.

The OP is asking if people will be able to tel she’s pregnant so it’s a reasonable point to make. She might want to disguise her drinks for example, so people don’t realise.

GiltEdges · 12/06/2022 13:09

If it's your first pregnancy then no, you're unlikely to look any different at 10 weeks. As others have said, you may be slightly bloated but it depends on the individual. I remember wearing my normal jeans/tops until just before my 20 week scan and they weren't the stretchy kind.

randomsabreuse · 12/06/2022 13:15

I had no time to drink at my wedding, too busy chatting with everyone so just hold a glass of fizz and no one will notice anything on that front. Or get a bottle of Nosecco just for you.

You shouldn't be showing in the tummy region but you're far more likely to struggle with boobs if the dress is very fitted there. Should be options - although boobs tend to be the major giveaway to the observent.

If you just don't want to look pregnant in your photos it will be fine.

fpurplea · 12/06/2022 13:27

Firstly, congratulations!! At 10 weeks your baby will be between 5-6cm long, and weigh under 15g (source: my pregnancy tracking app lol!) I'm currently 23wks with my first and have only just started showing in the last couple of weeks. If it's not your first you'll likely show earlier, but very very unlikely that early, and absolutely nothing that couldn't be explained as a little bit of bloat anyway.

I agree that it's far more likely that not drinking if people would normally be expecting you to is more likely to draw attention.

frydae · 12/06/2022 13:30

Most people do drink alcohol

That was my point really, hence the comment about wondering if it will ever change. The default position is, as you say, most people drink alcohol.

I'm sorry for the derail OP, I hope you have a lovely wedding, and manage to conceal the goods

Glitteratitar · 12/06/2022 13:30

I was 12 weeks pregnant at my wedding. I wasn’t showing but my hips had started to spread, so my dress was snug and I looked wide. I knew I was pregnant when I went for my alterations and I would have had to had the bottom half taken in as well, but she decided to leave it until the week of my wedding and luckily it was a good idea to leave it on the bigger side!

OhRiRi · 12/06/2022 13:32

I went to a wedding where they announced the pregnancy to family there and had the photographer poised for the reactions!

JLQ1020 · 12/06/2022 13:32

I'd tell your bridesmaids who can help conceal your not drinking. So they can subtly swap non alcohol prosecco for the normal stuff etc.
Also make sure to check out the menu again there will be done foods like goats cheese you can't eat.
Call your dress maker now and tell her as well.
Congratulations.

It's recommended not to take antihistamines during pregnancy. Not unless Dr advised.
