Hi ladies. I've just found out I am pregnant! I think I'm about 3 weeks meaning I'll be 10 weeks when we get married. I don't want to tell anyone at all until the 12 week mark but I am petrified about starting to show by 10 weeks? My wedding dress is really fitted and I'm worried someone might guess! Will I start to show by 10 weeks? I can't afford a new dress and I don't know what to do :( please help!!! X

You won't be showing and you can always make the excuse that "eew, there's nothing worse than a drunk bride" for not drinking, or pick up a glass and carry it around for a bit before putting it down. In my experience, no-one will notice if you don't draw attention to it.

RubricEnemy · 12/06/2022 13:36

Tell your dressmaker - you may have changed shape somewhat as everyone is different and matters if this is your first child or not.

But it's a happy inconvenience!! Many congratulations.

Definitely this! It was my first pregnancy and my body changed shape by 12 weeks, even though I didn’t have a bump until I was 20 weeks!

Hugasauras · 12/06/2022 13:40

Yes, good point re: boobs. With my first pregnancy, my boobs grew so rapidly in first trimester that they got covered in stretch marks all underneath. They were massive!

toomuchlaundry · 12/06/2022 13:46

As others have said boobs may be an issue in a fitted dress.

My main issues in early stage pregnancy were sickness and tiredness. Went to a concert with DH when only a few weeks pregnant (hadn’t actually tested then). Soon as I sat down I fell asleep and didn’t wake up until the end (and it was loud!). Threw up as soon as we got out of the venue. It was at that point I thought I might be pregnant and took a test the next day!

KvotheTheBloodless · 12/06/2022 13:52

Assuming you don't start 'eating for two' (you don't need any extra calories in the 1st trimester) you'll be fine, if it's your first baby you'll not be showing by then. Your boobs might grow a bit though!

Thebeastofsleep · 12/06/2022 14:22

I looked more pregnant at 10 weeks pregnant than 20, due to bloating!

NoNameIdeas · 12/06/2022 14:54

How exciting!
I was 16 weeks pregnant when I got married, definitely couldn't tell from the photos. I didn't have a bump but I did have to get my dress altered at my final fitting as I changed shape (switched from button to ribbon back so that it fitted comfortably!). We had told immediate family but told everyone else in the speeches!
Hope you have a brilliant day, congratulations

It's recommended not to take antihistamines during pregnancy. Not unless Dr advised.

Some antihistamines are fine in pregnancy cetirizine, loratidine, fexofenadine

20viona · 12/06/2022 15:02

Congrats! I'm 26 weeks and still don't look pregnant so don't let that worry you too much about your dress. Maybe go for an early scan and announce at the wedding? That would be cool!

grey12 · 12/06/2022 15:05

I assume it's your first. I didn't show anything until about 4 months 😉 unless you're incredibly skinny but even then you'd be ok for the first trimester

Appletiser in a champagne glass will see any suspicions off.

Or Schloer 😉

I went teetotal and drink schloer instead. I used to enjoy champagne and it's a good alternative

Dinoteeth · 12/06/2022 15:08

I don't think people will notice but your dress might need let out.

For goodness sake don't try "shape wear" I have a friend who tried it as a newly pregnant wedding guest. She ended up feeling sick with then and ditched them in the sanitary bin!!!

Footballsundays6777 · 12/06/2022 15:09

I’d didn’t show until about 22/23 weeks with both so I think you’ll be fine… in terms of the not drinking at wedding I only had a glass for the toast, you’re so busy talking meeting greeting dancing to even worry about drinking.

OhRiRi · 12/06/2022 13:32

I went to a wedding where they announced the pregnancy to family there and had the photographer poised for the reactions!

Awwww...lovely idea!

Trainfromredhill · 12/06/2022 15:13

I started a new job at 19 weeks. I told them I had a hospital apt the following week and they guessed it was my 12 week scan. They were pretty shocked when I told them it was my 20 week scan.

RebeccaCloud9 · 12/06/2022 15:33

@JLQ1020 my consultant told me I could take cetirizine. My midwife also told me it was fine to take loperamide. It is now widely accepted to be perfectly safe in pregnancy and has been taken for years by many women without problems. They just haven't done the specific testing to allow them to state it on the box. It is even recommended as an anti sickness treatment in pregnancy. (Mine was for sinuses but had the brilliant side effect of stopping my sickness).

RebeccaCloud9 · 12/06/2022 15:39

@JLQ1020 you can eat lots of types of goats cheese too - and even the ones that you can't eat raw, you can eat cooked!

OP, the advice changes constantly, so check the latest from NHS to be clear.

USaYwHatNow · 12/06/2022 15:47

I'm 26 weeks pregnant and didn't start actually shoeing until I was 16/17 weeks. I was bloated though which was quite uncomfortable, and morning sickness lasted all day. I was flippin exhausted too.

Would 100% speak to a seamstress to see if there's anything that could be altered for your comfort levels, drink plenty of water in the days leading up to prevent further water retention. Try and avoid salt and processed foods for the same reason-will also help with the bloating. If you hit the point of morning sickness or nausea at that point, speak to the GP so they can prescribe you something for it. I didn't actually vomit that much but did a lot of suspicious dry heaving which gave the game away.

Plenty of fruit and veg to boost your vitamins and energy levels and a good pregnancy multi vitamin. I was still bloody knackered but just trying to cover as many bases for you as possible!

USaYwHatNow · 12/06/2022 15:49

And when I say knackered, I mean, I'm a midwife used to 12hr night shifts but this was exhaustion on steroids that made me cry 😂

suzyscat · 12/06/2022 15:50

The dress will be fine, I'd worry more about how exhausting the first trimester is. I struggled to stay awake. Try and make sure you have a space to retire to throughout the day in case you need a quick power nap.

bcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyza · 12/06/2022 15:50

I was in maternity wear at 10 weeks and showing a bit. Didn't think I would as if was my first and only pregnancy.

TakeYourFinalPosition · 12/06/2022 15:53

I was absolutely fine at ten weeks; no symptoms, wasn’t showing.

Someone at my wedding was pregnant and didn’t want people to know - we told the bar staff, and when they bought us drinks; they passed her alcohol free wine instead. Nobody knew.

Congratulations! There’s no way of knowing how you’ll feel, it’s very personal, but you’ll manage it and I hope you have an amazing day.

3monkeybars · 13/06/2022 00:15

I got married at 10 weeks! You wouldn't have been able to tell - I drank Appletiser out of a champagne glass all day. The worst was feeling ready for bed by 8pm (I held on til 10.30...)

LolaJ87 · 13/06/2022 09:21

Sorry to be the voice of negativity but I'm pregnant at the moment and went on holidays a few weeks ago at 10 weeks - most of my shorts that had fit the previous month when I was unpacking my summer clothes either didn't fit or were painfully tight. I actually lost weight in my first trimester, but my boobs went up a cup size and I was permanently painfully bloated.

While it's great that so many people look the same at 10 weeks, there's no guarantee that you'll be one of them and I'd be having a chat with your seamstress now regarding alterations, to be prepared and on the safe side.
