@MrsTwentyNine I recommend Aldi nappies, they seemed to work so well with my DS1. Also make sure the frilly bits around the legs are always out.

Also another tip, it may sound silly, but with boys make sure you straighten his willy before doing the nappy up! I remember suddenly thinking this when he was like 2 weeks old and kept leaking. My partner was like ‘well obviously you need to straighten it’ I mean what the hell do I know 😂

You may be doing all this but thought I’d say just incase x

MrsM29 · 17/06/2022 13:40

@MrsTwentyNine are you making sure his Willy is pointing down? If it is pointing up in the nappy it will go all up his back.

MsBubbles85 · 17/06/2022 13:48

Congratulations to all the new mums!
I had today my midwife appointment (38w+1) and the midwife asked me if I wanted a cervix sweep next week. She mentioned that baby is low but not engaged yet. Has anyone have a cervix sweep at 39 weeks? I don't know what to do!!!

Prema112 · 17/06/2022 14:39

@RoseValleyRambles Congrats!!! So lovely to hear your your sweet baby's arrival!

Breastfeeding mums... any recommendations for breastfeeding tops/dresses?

RooSut25 · 17/06/2022 17:41

@MrsTwentyNine Agree with the Aldi nappy recommendations - I've not had a single leak yet! Plus they're cheap and the wetness indicator strip is really useful!

MrsTwentyNine · 17/06/2022 17:43

@annie1994 @MrsM29 @ @Flowerbug1994 sadly Aldi nappy leaked on us too 😭 cannot believe it! We tried the willy pointing down too...now trying pampers size 2 in case it's because the nappy is too small somehow ?!

RooSut25 · 17/06/2022 17:59

@Prema112 I have a couple of nursing dresses from JoJo Maman Bebe which have been great, or I just wear button up maternity shirts with a nursing bra underneath! I still haven't quite mastered how people feed discreetly though - it takes me a lot of faffing to get myself set up!

laurenGame · 17/06/2022 20:23

@beansprout55 I've had a lot of discharge for weeks now.
Been to maternity unit twice (both times got told it's thrush Confused) and third time has my cervix checked (made me bleed for 4 days Confused).

I have quite a lot too. But speaking with friends some just seem to get it way more than others?

My PELVIC is so sore- when I get up for toilet at night I can't walk for 20 seconds or so. Then wobble and use furniture a lot, to lean on. My pelvic even hurts when I sneeze. I don't know what's normal what's not. Or how I can ease the pain 😪

sunflower198 · 17/06/2022 21:08

Congratulations @RoseValleyRambles - I'm 18 days (I think?!) post c section and feel back to normal now. I stopped taking painkillers about a week ago now and only take some if I've been for a long walk as scar hurts after that.
The blood thinning injections were the worst part of the whole experience for me, they were so painful and I was glad when they were finished! X

sunflower198 · 17/06/2022 21:10

@MrsTwentyNine we've struggled with Aldi nappies this time around (I used them lots with my son a few years ago) but this time found they keep leaking which is annoying as I had a few packs stocked up!
The Lidl and Tesco nappies seem to be working best for us this time around 😊

beansprout55 · 17/06/2022 22:25

@laurenGame I'm the exact same! Whenever I get up after being stationary for some time, whether it be laying in bed sleeping or even on the sofa, I always struggle to walk exactly as you describe. It's horrible xx

Out of nowhere today I had a sudden onset of severe UTI pain lasting an hour (very familiar with them as would get them every month for years!) - it was so bad that I had my first bath in 9 months to ease it, and I already had a 3 day course of Amoxicillin (which is what they'd give me anyway) so just started those. The pain has already gone completely, no symptoms whatsoever, weird. Don't want to spend £50 I don't have seeing a GP though. Sigh for Jersey. Hope I'm doing the right thing.

One of my patients had her baby 8 weeks ago and she recommended a belt that helped her tummy shrink quicker..... I thought that sort of thing was a load of crap, do they actually work? Any of you got one? And how long does it take for tummy to shrink back down? I'm meeting my scary SIL for the first time 6 weeks post birth and would love to not be giant still. 🙈

laurenGame · 18/06/2022 06:10

Yes I'm interested in support belts for after birth too, if anyone has recommendations, or any opinions? 😃I might do a little research too

@beansprout55 I actually would love crutches or a walking stick, my pelvic can't handle the pressure and the pain is exhausting. I'm so surprised as I was so into Pilates and running every day before the bub - well I've learnt that pregnancy takes no prisoners!
I had UTI and took ural effervescent powder sachets- apparently they're not recommended but that depends on the pharmacist - my OB is pretty relaxed and is fine for me to use a lot of meds that pharmacists frown upon.

fpeg · 18/06/2022 06:57

@Prema112 I've also got a couple of things from jojo maman and also from seraphine. I really like the tops from seraphine, lightweight and easy to access. I stick a muslin over my shoulder covering the boob when starting up and then baby's face covers my boob. I don't cover her up when she's feeding. I've walked around more than one shop feeding her as I hold her and no one notices. Has taken me a few weeks to develop the technique though and I don't bother trying to be discreet around family because they saw me in the early days when I hadn't worked it all out 🤣

Starbeach · 18/06/2022 07:12

@RoseValleyRambles @Flowerbug1994 it's nice to hear I'm not the only struggling to move after my c section. It's the standing up straight bit that takes a while I find. I'm 2 days post section I hate fragmin injections with a passion had them before which isn't helping either.

But either way we have our beautiful babies. 😍

annie1994 · 18/06/2022 08:29

@MrsTwentyNine oh no that’s annoying! Maybe it’s just a bit of trial and error then - try going up a size or different brand like Tesco etc.

This will teach me for stocking up on Aldi nappies before baby gets here as they probably won’t work well for him and I’ll have wasted my money 😂

Starbeach · 18/06/2022 08:57

@beansprout55 @laurenGame I have my dad's old zimmer ha ha the old lady transformation but god it's a life changer to help me initially move

destiEos · 18/06/2022 09:59

@fpeg the farts are something else, aren't they?! Neither I, nor DH are capable of that sort of stench without a good curry 😂 He builds up for 2 or 3 days and then...poonami 😮 He does gurn and twist about a lot before letting out many hundreds of fartlets throughout the day, and I'm hoping it's not causing him too much discomfort.

Op went fine, I couldn't watch it though and shed a tear when he started bawling (probably the being swaddled and held against his will add much as the snip itself), the blood on his little white sleepsuit broke my heart too 💔 I'm not sure how much difference it's made - it seemed promising but we're back to easy latch one session, frustrated inability to latch on the next... I have (finally) ordered the Medela pump though...f*ck me, that's expensive though!

@Vimto1991 it's great they gave such specific advice! They just sort of told me to try whatever worked and good luck.. I'm doing as long as he stays on each boob in turn (between 3 and 10 minutes each, usually) then I 'serve' 120ml bottle, he can drink between 40-70ml depending on how much he gets from breast. If he doesn't have breast (nipple-pain dependent) he can do the full 120ml, although often in 2 sessions.

@needarainbow hope it went well for you on Friday! 🤞🏻 Yesterday was pretty damn hot, hopefully you (and your new addition) are enjoying the cooler air today 💕

Octoblockisadick · 18/06/2022 10:02

@MrsTwentyNine I've not had any issues with leaking nappies yet (touch wood!), but I found with my daughter that all brands are different shapes, some come higher up, some bigger on the legs etc. Maybe try a different brand? We are using pampers and lidl, the lidl ones come up a lot higher and are a lot bigger in the waist too although according to the packet they cover the same size.

@Prema112 so far I've been wearing normal clothes that either have buttons or a low v neck. I find the cross over v neck tops quite good as the tops tend to be looser. @RooSut25 agreed I'm not very discrete yet though!

@beansprout55 in clothes my stomach looks pretty much normal now 2 weeks on, not in anything clingy though! It's all very dependent on your body shape, age, metabolism, all sorts though. Never heard of the belts though.

@laurenGame I'm a pharmacist in a hospital and we are a lot more lenient than a community pharmacist. They are very limited by what they can legally sell, but in the hospital we have a lot more freedom. Most medicine will say don't use, but often that's due to the manufacturer not wanting to risk any liability if anything did happen rather than the meds not being safe.

destiEos · 18/06/2022 10:23

@Jammymare Congratulations! 🥳💕😍 I am so with you on the sore nipples - also think maybe large nipples/small mouth issue.. Haven't yet figured out if erect or floppy nipples are preferable - anyone? She's beautiful by the way and 7lbs 8oz is the best weight 😉

@Lostintranslatio good luck for tomorrow! I hope you're both doing well today and you're looking forward to meeting your baby ☺️ 🤞🏻💕

@Junebaby22 just a warning: I sat out in the sun a few weeks ago while pregnant, for like half an hour and despite having moisturiser with 15SPF on my face I got the dark skin patches on both cheeks and collarbone - they're finally going now after about a month! I forget what it's called, 'mask of pregnancy'? anyway, whack on a hat 😉

@beansprout55 I'm not looking too closely at bum and thighs, but I did notice upper arms are looking rubbish and dimply 😕 no exercise allowed for at least 4 weeks though, and I'm not sure I'm brave enough to go for a swim before 6 anyway. Oh well 😬

@Prema112 thanks, I think he was fine but the thought of someone taking scissors to your baby - ohmygod! Even if it hasn't helped with bf, his was severe enough that it might have affected speech later in life, so had to be done anyway.

@RoseValleyRambles, @Flowerbug1994, @sunflower198, @Starbeach I'm in week 3 of c-section recovery and yep - thank God no more of those injections. I had 10 of them, and I made DH do it, I really didn't want to add that to all the other bits of my body in pain! It does still feel bobbly under there and there are more painful days (after doing a couple of chores it's a lot worse) but it's so much better now and I can get up of the sofa pretty easily now 😬 We thought the 2.5-3hr routine was quite easy but it's actually got worse, probably as the poo routine has changed, he's less predictable and more grumpy. We've changed from both of us doing everything together to alternating so see get more sleep. Hopefully he'll settle back into a routine when the weather calms down a bit too 🤞🏻

@MrsTwentyNine my tuppence-worth: we had a few free Lidl nappies which we really liked (not managed to get to a store to buy any since though), we had bought some Tesco ones, which we didn't like much and won't buy again. We now use Morrisons which are just as good as the Lidl ones and as we do the weekly shop from there anyway, convenient too. I was going to buy a pack of Pampers just for comparison purposes but the reviews are just as mixed as all the others and the price is unjustifiable compared to all the others 😠 Unless you all tell he they're amazing and worth every penny, in such case I'm buying Pampers 🤣

destiEos · 18/06/2022 10:26

Oh, and a quick check on who's professional enough in bf terms to do it out? I'd love to, but it's such a challenge getting him latched at home that I'm not brave enough to try it in public yet 🙁

I had another question, but I've been up since 6am and the laundry needs hanging, little one needs changed and it's time to kick DH out of bed, I'll get back when I remember what it was 😬

RooSut25 · 18/06/2022 10:53

@destiEos I managed two feeds whilst out walking in the forest - but sat on a bench with my back to the path so reasonably private. Also at a friend's BBQ, but they're also pregnant so pretty chilled. I was still proud of successfully feeding somewhere other than my own house though!

Flowerbug1994 · 18/06/2022 10:57

@Starbeach don’t be to hard on yourself at 2 days post section the first week is the hardest and you’ve got to remember they pump you with drugs in hospital so now is the time your coming down off them I found day 3 physically the hardest when all hospital drugs had left my system. I nearly collapsed when I stood up straight the day after my section felt like someone was burning me at the wound site. Am 16 days post section now but still have the off time when I stretch to hard or jump up to quick that I feel like I’ve over done it. Be kind to yourself you had major surgery 2 days ago your doing amazing just being out of bed looking after your baby. @destiEos fragmin are a bitch am on a 6 week course my stomach is covered in bruises along with iron tablets and antibiotics as I had a stitch left in me when they was removed and I have infection in section wound. Childbirth no matter what way it’s done really does knock the shit out of a woman’s body doesn’t it. Good job this little boy of mine is so cute 😂💙

Octoblockisadick · 18/06/2022 11:32

@destiEos I was told that a tongue tie can limit how wide they can open their mouth, so that could possibly be linked too.
I breastfed in a pub the other day (a family soft play type one not a random boozer haha), we sat in a booth out of the way and I just turned towards the wall slightly when latching. I did then walk down the street to the library with him feeding though. I'm alright once he's on because you can't see anything, it's just getting him on i find.

Vimto1991 · 18/06/2022 13:05

Reading all your c section recovery stories - I’m 11 days post and only on ibuprofen which I could go without. Bit sore sometimes because I never bought c section knickers and nothing fits. Got some really big ones coming from Amazon tomorrow. 🙈 so they rub the scar (which isn’t hugely noticeable) and this morning noticed a bit of ooze which is worrying.
standing up was the worst for me, I couldn’t stand straight, along with sitting up! That eased around day 7.
im on clexane for 6 weeks (dad has blood clots so high risk factor), and whilst the needle doesn’t hurt (even after the nerve damage wore off) the injection itself feels like a harsh sting. :( just over 4 weeks to go! Then I can also take off my sexy compression socks. Day 11 and water retention has gone and I no longer look like I have sausages for legs.
my placenta bleeding has kicked up again, though. 😩

i do plan on sharing my not so great birth story at some point but still getting my head around it and coming to terms with it. 😬

Letsbekindplease · 18/06/2022 13:08

@MsBubbles85 it’s your decision but it didn’t work for me and I was 40 weeks pregnant. I found it a bit uncomfortable and bled for a couple of days later. My midwife offered it to me at 39 weeks and when I refused she said I made the right decision.

@destiEos I’m having bother too. Little one has tongue tie but it’s apparently “stretchy”
tried combi feedings which I just loved but I made the decision last night that I’m stopping.
I can’t get her to take much and with the pain and the amount of milk I’m leaking (it’s going everywhere!) I have decided I can’t do it anymore. Managed 4 days and I really enjoyed it but it’s not for me.

our little one is a little dream. So in love with her. Worried about the colic though and if that will appear because she isn’t great at burping.
