@DaimDillyDoo @beansprout55 I also have a windy baby. She is so unsettled at night time but once she is settled she sleeps a good 3/4 hours. It’s really difficult isn’t it. I use infacol and baby massage seems to help. She seems like she’s got trapped win and does this awful little cry.

my midwife spoke about the colic crystals ? I haven’t heard or tried them but you get them from chemist. I remember asking my chemist 3 years ago about them and they didn’t have them. Worth a try asking about.

Congratulations on all the new babies in the group.

MrsTwentyNine · 29/06/2022 11:32

Sorry to hear the struggles with feeding. I'm really struggling too and I only get 30mls when I pump @beansprout55 which makes me so upset. I can't pump that often as little one is feeding hourly / 2 hourly so having to give formula plus windy baby so takes an hour to settle him. I don't know when all this will get better either but we need to remember that we are doing our best! Formula or breast or expressed in bottle...fed and healthy is the only thing to worry about x

Vimto1991 · 29/06/2022 12:13

@MrsTwentyNine honestly, word for word I could have wrote that myself. Kind of brings me solace that others are having the same experience as me!!

Prema112 · 29/06/2022 13:20

Congrats to the new babies!!

Oh ladies, why is breastfeeding so hard?! It's meant to be natural!! So sorry to hear about all the various difficulties, I just wanted to say we're all doing so well, however we are feeding our babies. If you have any breastfeeding support in your area I'd really encourage you to use it, it's helped me loads. I still want to yell/cry every time he feeds though 😢 Hoping it will get better with time. Really appreciating this mumsnet community still ❤️

annie1994 · 29/06/2022 13:30

I’m with you all on struggling to breastfeed 🙄 baby is a week today and struggling to latch as my nipples just aren’t pointy enough!! We are doing a mixture of everything tbh! Breastfeeding mainly (using nipple shields) then also bottled expressed milk and bottled formula…. Just winging it each time tbh. Not sure if this is the best approach though, I feel like he’s got a bit lazy now he’s having nipple shields/ bottles so isn’t working as hard to latch straight on my nipple.

Anyone else really struggling with back pain? I had a c section and I’m probably doing too much around the house/ with my toddler so I guess part of it is that. Getting comfy when breastfeeding is so hard so that’s def not helping!!

Turniptracker · 30/06/2022 12:03

Just checking in to say baby turnip was born on the summer solstice, 21st June at 41 weeks. He had managed to wear his umbilical cord like a belt so we didn't get the straight forward birth we wanted but we've survived and we are thriving on the other side. Just wanted to reassure anyone still waiting to have their babies - I had an episiotomy (2nd degree) and it was absolutely fine and practically all healed up now so don't stress if you have to have one. The poop on the other side isn't that bad - it's all psychological 😁

fpeg · 30/06/2022 12:30

@Turniptracker huge congratulations!! I love your positive message as well 💕 welcome to the world baby turnip!

Rolledthedice · 30/06/2022 13:34

Congratulations @Annabell1 @ChildOfFriday and @Turniptracker! Enjoy all those snuggly newborn cuddles! 🥰

beansprout55 · 30/06/2022 14:31

I'm pumping every 4 hours (ish) - 15 mins per boob with an electric pump or both together if I get the double out. I try to not pump my right one as much as that's the one I try BF off, when he agrees. 1 week post birth today and I can get about 120ml per pumping session which is great, but I don't want to give it to him by bottle all the time. Today I'm going for it and going to breastfeed all day long and commit and see what happens - will let you know. I have expressed milk ready for the night because I ain't battling with boob feeds all night again... hopefully he won't scream at my boobs because he's too hungry to work for it. Such a killer this. I'll catch him before he's starving - that's the key!

I sometimes feel like just giving formula as it's totally fine, but the thought of giving up on breast feeding makes me cry! I don't know why! I suppose it's always been important to me and how I envisaged it would be.... who knows, it's just my instincts kicking in I suppose. Not quite ready to give up on the idea - thank God for electric pumps!!!
Oh and giving up bottles will hugely help the wind issues we have so that's something to motivate me!!

Congratulations to all the new mummies xxxx

Anyone else's child break wind x100 a day? Or is it because he's his fathers son.... 🤔

mrkb · 30/06/2022 16:21

Hi everyone. Haven't posted in a while but have been quietly lurking, baby b is just over 4 weeks old now and it's been a tough journey so far! Congratulations to all of the new babies - I've just realised it's the last day of June and so we're at the end of the group! Anyone still waiting for their babies?

Baby b is really struggling to poo and it's causing a lot of discomfort and distress - today she was crying and screaming for nearly 3 hours and nothing I did soothed her but as soon as she finally did a poo she relaxed and has been able to fall asleep. I've asked the GP for an appointment as I think she's having digestive issues but wondering if anyone here is going through anything similar as it's a struggle!

Vimto1991 · 30/06/2022 17:09

@mrkb my baby was struggling with poop and wind, I had 0 poops in a day from her. We started giving her infacol and we had 7 poos yesterday and plenty of wind. I’ve gone from one extreme to the other which doesn’t help the worry!! I’m lactose intolerant and so is DH so it does make me wonder about digestive issues, also. But at the same time… she’s combi fed, and I read this can be normal! My midwife said they are only concerned after five days without a dirty happy.

fpeg · 30/06/2022 18:27

@beansprout55 omg yes! Fartiest baby ever 😂 although it is starting to get less frequent now.

Vimto1991 · 01/07/2022 10:47

Anyone else other than me struggling with the anxiety of visitors bringing in colds/flus/covid? We have had all family over, and I’ve had two close friends over (I’m an only child), and I did struggle with anxiety even with them but trusted they were okay as they were family. Today we are supposed to have one of DH friends over who wants to also bring his three kids (so that’s another stress), but this friend went to Spain to a festival with over 30000 people this week, and I’m worried he may have picked up something like covid. DH has done his usual ‘everything will be fine’, but had the audacity to say he wouldn’t have invited my friend over as her kid was ill two days beforehand, and is now telling me I can’t keep dd in a bubble. I never had her in a bubble, we invited people over, we’ve gone to hospital, we’ve gone outside to shops! But there is still a global pandemic and I’d rather that friend wait until next week to make sure. 😩😩 honestly it’s really got me down, I had to even tell DH to leave the room (dd is asleep in her cot in the bedroom so I can’t leave).

EarlGreywithLemon · 01/07/2022 12:25

@Vimto1991 I’m totally with you on this. We’ve been very careful, as covid at less than 4 weeks old just isn’t something I want. Or rather, I’ve been careful, with DH has protesting at every juncture. It’s not about putting them in a bubble, but cases are very high at the moment and they are still very very little.
That said, our older daughter has a cold from nursery, and that wouldn’t be much fun for a newborn either.

Clomid1 · 01/07/2022 17:11

Hi everyone,

My clomid baby 😁 has been keeping me very busy.

Has everyones baby’s arrived now or is anyone still waiting? Also how many arrived on exactly the due date?

You all know mine was born extremely small 0.2 centile (2.225kg). We’re now at the 3kg mark. Just under the 2nd centile line so we’re slowly creeping up the centiles.

As all of you have mentioned I am also struggling massively with breastfeeding. Basically as I had a third degree tear I was rushed off into theatre and she was given formula as her first feed. She then got jaundice and I was told I must give her 30ml per feed so I had no choice but to go with bottles so that I can tell how much she was drinking. We did attempt breastfeeding but she would never latch. We’ve since discovered she has a tongue tie (although the lady from the infant feeding team said the tongue tie is not the sole reason she won’t feed on the breast its more to do with the fact she was bottle fed for a quite while). Tongue tie division is on 20th off this month. Trying to get her on the nipple shield when I have the energy which is hardly anytime because by the time I’ve fed, put her to sleep and pumped I only have 1 hr left before the next feed. Hoping to get her to feed eventually off the breast because I cannot keep this up.

For all those struggling with wind/ pooping etc I am a massive fan of gripe water. I started it yesterday at 1 month old. Infacol is also good but for me it took a while to work if that makes sense you need to be persistent with it to see results. Baby clomid hates the taste of infacol and gripe water.

I cannot believe she is a month old now, feels like she was born yesterday.

Prema112 · 01/07/2022 17:35

@Clomid1 Hi! Lovely to hear from you. Glad to hear your little one is slowly gaining weight. We also have tongue tie appointment on 20th! They will assess whether he needs the snip or not, have to go to Royal Free, think they might be tongue tie specialists there... Hope your appointment goes so well x

Clomid1 · 01/07/2022 18:23

@Prema112 what time is yours 😅. Ours is at the royal free too 😁. I am in two minds about getting the snip. If the only issue is breastfeeding then I feel like I am being lazy and should express. But honestly expressing means I cannot leave the house at all.

Clomid1 · 01/07/2022 18:25

Also if anyone else is expressing what do you use. I am currently using spectra S2. I am thinking of getting a wearable one so I can do other things whilst I express. If anyone has a wearable one can you please let me know if you recommend it?

Vimto1991 · 01/07/2022 20:58

@EarlGreywithLemon exactly this! Thanks for the reassurance! ☺️

dd is still on a big poo run this week, 7 poos Wednesday, 4 yesterday and 5 today. I’m really hoping it’s because my milk is coming in better so she’s having more milk, she tends to go just as we start a breast feed! So difficult to know what’s normal with combi babies. 😭 I’m just worried she has CMPA!

fpeg · 02/07/2022 04:41

@Clomid1 I have the Medela freestyle flex which is mobile and I can move around and feel comfortable doing basic stuff, but don't think I could do anything that requires lots of bending down, etc in it and it is a bit cumbersome. It's good enough for me and I really like the pump, but my routine only sees me express 3 times in the day and if I wanted to be really mobile then it's probably not the right one. I think someone on here mentioned they were buying the elvie so it would be good to get a review from them as that looks properly mobile and that you could port much carry on as normal whilst pumping. Ding know how good or comfortable the pump is though.

beansprout55 · 02/07/2022 05:08

If there is anyone who like me, really wanted to stop expressing altogether and just breastfeed, this seems to have worked for me and I'm SO shocked!

Thursday I decided I wasn't going out, or leaving the couch. I put baby on the boobs continuously from morning until night, I didn't let him get hungry and just woke him regularly for 'snacks' and a few longer sessions. Lots of skin to skin. Eureka!! We didn't use the bottle. Latch finally properly developed. 😳
The first night was hard in terms of sleep, he woke up every hour and half ish for 15 min snack sessions - but it was our first night. Yesterday and tonight feeds have been more 3/4 hourly. SO happy! Anyway, some encouragement for those who were wanting to do this like me! I thought it was going to be impossible to ever stop expressing!x

beansprout55 · 02/07/2022 05:13

Oh and @Clomid1 - I have the incredibly CHEAP Bellababy. So cheap on Amazon, read the reviews.... it's so so good. I was getting an abundance of milk.
It's battery operated but you can't move around with it, I know that's what you were after but honestly 10/15 mins on the boob you should get what you need or more, and there are two pumps in the pack so it's done and dusted real quick.

MrsTwentyNine · 02/07/2022 05:20

Vimto1991 · 29/06/2022 12:13

@MrsTwentyNine honestly, word for word I could have wrote that myself. Kind of brings me solace that others are having the same experience as me!!

@Vimto1991 I've now come to terms with combi feeding without guilt. I tried to look at it as the best of both worlds! I'm not at my healthiest weight (faaaar from it) , my diet is not brilliant at all as I hate fruits and overcook my veggies ...yes breast is best but don't know if my breast is best haha. So I figure let the baby get some extra things from formula and I'll keep offering breast at the start of every feed too. Apparently skin to skin is the best way to increase milk which I'm hoping to do once I have the house free to myself. But I have decided my mental health is very important for baby and when he grows older. Giving myself anxiety over no EBF-ing is not good for me long term which means it's not good for him. I'm happy with the set up and DH has such an amazing bond with him being able to feed him! So those combi feeding or FF, do not despair. Another advantage I've found if anyones looking for one is that I can get 5-6 hours uninterrupted sleep as me and DH are doing shifts to look after him. Anyone else doing shifts ?? I find that 5 hours uninterrupted is working great so far!

Elvie is good but I seem to get more milk when I express with the medela swing to whoever asked. The washing and sterilising is SUCH a pain with expressing when you're also having to do the same with all the bottles for formula. I need a bigger steriliser machine!

Hope all you ladies are well and congrats to those who just had their bubbas Smile

Prema112 · 02/07/2022 09:53

@Clomid1 Oh cool! 2pm, you??

Prema112 · 02/07/2022 10:00

@beansprout55 Wow that's so great! Well done you, it's a big sacrifice to skin to skin all day but sounds like it's really paid off!
