Loss of mucus plug at 39+6 - how long until labour begins?

I know no one can answer this really, but I’m interested to hear others' experiences!

I’m 39+6 and have just lost my mucus plug (clear/yellow rather than bloody, though). Apologies for the TMI but I had loose bowels all day Thursday and have been having Braxton Hicks on and off for a while. No other signs of labour so far.

So, if you lost your mucus plug close to your due date, how long was it until you went into labour?

I lost mine whilst having contractions at home, birth was within 12 hours. I was 40+4 though. Best of luck.

The next day early morning

EatingToast · 21/05/2022 12:18

3 days for me

itssquidstella · 21/05/2022 12:19

Thanks @JanuaryBirthdays! I'm really hoping things get going soon :)

@justasking111 thanks for sharing, I'd love it if he arrived on his due date!

within 3 days is the answer i think

itssquidstella · 21/05/2022 12:20

@EatingToast and @lightand that sounds promising - I think I can cope with another three days of being pregnant if I feel like the end is in sight!

About 10 days, sorry!

itssquidstella · 21/05/2022 12:47

@Gettissuesgotissues how far along were you when you lost it?

Hugasauras · 21/05/2022 12:53

I went into labour that evening! Day before due date (and she arrived on due date).

itssquidstella · 21/05/2022 13:53

@Hugasauras I hope I take after you!

With dc2 lost plug at about 7pm. Went to hospital 12 hours later but sent home at 8.30 having been told no chance of baby being born today. Baby was born at 12.50!

itssquidstella · 21/05/2022 14:44

@Magissa that's quick! Did you make it back to the hospital before you gave birth?

Watto1 · 21/05/2022 14:45

My waters went literally 10 minutes after losing my plug. I was 41 weeks.

Normando91 · 21/05/2022 14:47

I lost my plug while having contractions at home, around 3am. Baby boy was born 24 hours later.

Congratulations and all the best for your imminent arrival 😍

BritishDesiGirl · 21/05/2022 14:51

Mine came away slowly followed by a week of labour pains which got gradually worse. 3 days overdue.

itssquidstella · 21/05/2022 14:53

@Watto1 oh wow! Nothing has happened since I lost mine so it clearly isn't going to be that quick here 😂

Thanks @Normando91, I’m desperate for things to get going properly now!

@BritishDesiGirl I’m trying to prepare myself for the fact it could still be a while yet, but really hoping I only have another day or two to go...

DorritLittle · 21/05/2022 15:00

Um, I think mine was about a week for the first baby before from memory. Can't remember it happening with the second. But it is definitely a good sign!

itssquidstella · 21/05/2022 15:05

@DorritLittle can you remember how far along you were when you lost it?

Gettissuesgotissues · 21/05/2022 15:06

40 weeks! But fast labour, think it was a long time preparing then my body was well prepared. Hope it's soon for you!

newtb · 21/05/2022 15:27

5am on due date, DD born just before 2pm.

itssquidstella · 21/05/2022 15:33

Thanks @Gettissuesgotissues, me too!

OP posts:
itssquidstella · 21/05/2022 15:34

@newtb oooh another quick one! Did your contractions start as soon as you lost it? I haven't felt anything yet, so think it could still be a while...

I lost mine on the Monday I think and DS came on the Thursday at 41+1. Had more of a bloody show type thing just after I was examined in hospital to confirm dilation. Things could be on the way soon 😊

Magissa · 21/05/2022 18:55

@itssquidstella Yes hospital was a 15 min drive. I got home and decided to have a bath thinking it would help with the pains. I got in and had to get out straight away just felt so uncomfortable. I was barely home for an hour when I just knew I had to go back. I knew the baby was coming despite what midwife had said. Think I was back there by 10.15!

itssquidstella · 23/05/2022 09:15

Well, my waters went on Saturday at midnight but things stalled after that, so baby was born at 12.20am this morning by EMCS!
