Just as title suggests really….
I am 40 and I have three lovely children already. They are almost-12, 8 and 7.
I am desperate for another baby but sadly my last pregnancy ended in miscarriage at 10 weeks. I am still undergoing treatment for this as the miscarriage was middle of March and my HCG is at a low level but has plateaued. I had medical
management due to retained tissue but judging by the HCG I don’t think this has worked properly and atm I am at the EPU every few days for blood tests. This is frustrating me as I feel like I am in limbo and I just want to try again as I now feel time is not on my side :(
anyway I am digressing, sorry! I just wanted to read about success stories of ladies being successfully pregnant at 40 plus. I know full well
it happens but wanted to read about it to give me some positivity. Xx hope this makes sense x

Hi. I’m not 39 but will be 40 next may. I’m 35 weeks pregnant at the moment and also have 3 other children 21, 19 and 7 but a few years ago I had an ectopic pregnancy and then a miscarriage it was heart breaking but the minute we decided that enough is enough we will just leave it now and if it happens it happens which was a heartbreaking decision for us both at the time but then 3 years later we fell pregnant again. I just want you to know there is hope. I’m really sorry your going through this right now it really is heartbreaking. Also I work with a lot of younger people and most of there parents were 40 when they had them so it always makes me feel better. Good luck xx

Mumjo101315 · 16/05/2022 10:48

Thank you @Amivickery

I am so sorry for what you have been through as well, you’ve been through so much, but your story has made me smile and given me a shred of positivity in a morning where I feel so down in the dumps x
good luck with the rest of your pregnancy xxx you’re so close now! X

I tried to get pregnant at 40, it took a couple of cycles then I fell pregnant. Sadly that ended quickly as it was a chemical pregnancy. I was distraught. I had an odd cycle the next month, super short. I was convinced then I was peri menopausal and was so despondent. The next month I fell pregnant, I was super sick and exhausted. The 12 week scan arrived and it was twins! They arrived at 34 weeks of turned 41 by then. My 'one more' became 2 more but I'd would change a thing. Don't give up hope, sending you lots of love xx

StarDolphins · 16/05/2022 10:56

I’m not pregnant now but I had my first baby at 41 with no probs & 2 of my friends (40 & 41) have both recently given birth - 1 had 2 x MC but then no probs with this pregnancy!

good luck!😃

Miller2021 · 16/05/2022 10:56

I'm 42, and I'm 29 weeks pregnant with my first. I had a miscarriage last year at 9 weeks, but so far my current pregnancy has been very straighforward.

It's very common to have babies a bit older these days - my midwife tells me that most of the women in my NCT class will likely be late 30s/early 40s. Unfortunately, miscarriage is common at any age. Don't let your experiences so far scare you - there is plenty of hope. Good luck!

Mumjo101315 · 16/05/2022 23:06

Thank you all @Miller2021 @StarDolphins @nopenotplaying
thank you for replying to my thread.
I got told yesterday that my HCG from the miscarriage is now increasing tiny amounts (deffo not pregnant) so looks incredibly like retained products despite the medical management. I am back in the hospital tomorrow for more bloods and I will see what the position is then. Just disheartening - but you have all given me hope. Thank you xx

42 with my 4th and 43 with my 5th. Naturally. Good luck OP

Baby3at40 · 16/05/2022 23:28

So sorry about what you've been through and are going through. I got pregnant last September having just turned 39, with an implant in my arm 😳 so believe me, it happens against all odds sometimes. Getting induced next week so she'll be here a few months before I turn 40.

Don't lose hope x

annlee3817 · 17/05/2022 06:10

So sorry for your loss. Hope that they resolve everything soon for you.

I'm 40 and currently 25 weeks pregnant. So far I've had two sonographers and a consultant tell me that they all had babies in their early 40's.

HousePlantNeglect · 17/05/2022 12:30

I’m 40 with a 2 and 5 year old. Am 12 weeks after a missed miscarriage last year. I’ve had bleeding this pregnancy and been taking progesterone. Have my 12 week scan tomorrow and feel sick with nerves as I found out I’d lost my last baby at my 12 week scan.

if it helps, I got pregnant much easier at 39 and 40 than I did at 35.

Im so sorry about your MC, it’s really hard to go through especially since you’re having ongoing issues. Take it easy on yourself x

parklife1 · 17/05/2022 14:05

Hello, I am sorry for your loss.

I can only recommend "It starts with the egg" for you. My husband and me had a miscarriage trying for our second child. I then ordered this book and we started taking all the supplements. We now have a 3 month old daughter xx

All the best xx

Mumjo101315 · 19/05/2022 23:33

Thank you all so so so much xxx
@HousePlantNeglect how did your scan go??
went back To EPU today to see a consultant due to the length of time this is all taking. I am being seen on 31st for more bloods and a scan. My period should arrive before then, according to the consultant. My cycles have always been bang on so not having had a period is throwing me.
@Seeleyboo @parklife1 @annlee3817 @Baby3at40
thank you so much xxx reading your posts has made me feel so much better. My consultant has said that if no period and still positive pregnancy tests by end of May then I can have medication to force a period and if necessary an op to remove the tissue. She was reluctant to do an op as may cause damage to my womb. I told her I am desperate for one last baby but worried cos
of my age, she wasn’t concerned at all!!
keep your fingers crossed for me that I manage to get pregnant with my rainbow baby in next couple of months and please keep me posted on your pregnancies (if you’re currently pregnant - know not all the ladies who posted here are)
would love to talk to anyone who would like to 😂

I had my second baby at nearly 42 after several years of losses and heartache.

I also recommend "It Starts with the Egg" - I followed the supplement and diet advice and also lost some weight.

I was also under the care of a RMC clinic and had a procedure called an endometrial scratch which was supposed to help with implantation - my successful pregnancy happened the following month.

Mumjo101315 · 19/05/2022 23:40

And @parklife1 is that a book you’re referring to? It starts with an egg x

OP posts:
Mumjo101315 · 19/05/2022 23:43

@MsJuniper another one recommending it starts with an egg. I’m going to look into it. Thank you. I’ve taken for granted how easily I’ve fallen pregnant before (first month trying for all three).this is new territory for me and I realise how lucky I was before. It didn’t occur to me I may have a miscarriage. I was so naive. Thank you ladies. Your posts are humbling and thank you so much xxx

My son was born shortly before my 41st birthday. Took 12 cycles to conceive but I was lucky that my pregnancy was straightforward. I had never tried to conceive before. Good luck OP.

HousePlantNeglect · 20/05/2022 07:01

@Mumjo101315 it went fine that you so much for asking. Baby is well and no issues seen on the scan. I still can’t quite believe it.

So there is hope! I didn’t try right after my last MC but go pregnant within 4 cycles of trying. Honestly, nobody has batted an eyelash about my age.

JennyForeigner · 20/05/2022 07:20

I was. I had a baby at 39 and 50 weeks old and then twins two years later.

My SIL is currently pregnant at 44. She has children of similar ages to you and it hasn't been easy, but we have a new baby due in a few weeks 😍

IsabelHerna · 20/05/2022 10:05

Me 👋👋 I'm turning 41 on September, and currently 6 weeks pregnant via ivf. How are you all going?

Mumjo101315 · 20/05/2022 11:25

Amazing guys! I am sitting here with a big smile on my face.
@HousePlantNeglect so happy for you - i shall give you a message when it successfully happens for me - i now believe it will as have never had trouble conceiving.
@IsabelHerna I am also 41 in September. So if I get pregnant soon I will be 41 when it is born. So happy IVF worked for you xx
@JennyForeigner thank you for sharing your story. So you were 42 when you had your twins, and did you conceive easily? and your SIL - 44 - amazing!!
I went back to EPU yesterday after keeping on and on at them. They agreed to let me speak to a consultant. She took me and my worries seriously and has agreed I can have more bloods and a scan on 31st May. She says hopefully I will have a period before then, but if not, she will give me more medication to force a period and restart my cycle or if the scan shows tissue they will do surgery with a camera to identify where the retained tissue is and remove it without scraping my womb out - which she didn't want to do. Wish me luck. And thank you all for sharing your positive stories. I now fully believe I will get my rainbow baby xxxx

the consultant also said to me that my age is absolutely fine for getting pregnant and didn't even bat an eyelid!

I'm 40, childless and 8 weeks pregnant by accident. Personally delighted, but utterly exhausted already

pitterypattery00 · 20/05/2022 13:59

Meant to add that both my mum and dad (now in their early 70s) were born when their mums were aged 41 and 42 respectively. And I've a cousin who had her two at 41 and 43. So there are plenty of positive stories for you OP!

feistymumma · 20/05/2022 18:31

@Mumjo101315 sorry for your loss. I am 46 and currently 11weeks pregnant with baby number 5. I had another baby last July at 45 without even trying so please be reassured that 40 is still fully capable. Good luck!

Bailey671 · 20/05/2022 18:45

So sorry for your loss, sending you every bit of good luck for the future. I’m 40 and 22 weeks pregnant with my 4th. I had my first at 36 and as some of the other ladies have said I fell much easier with this pregnancy than any of my others. Very best wishes
