Were your top quality blasts (5aa/5ab/5ba) born male or female?

The embryologist who selected my 5aa blast to transfer said because it was graded as 5aa, it was likely to be a male baby! Apparently 70%+ of 5aa/5ab/5ba blasts are male because the male embryos grow more quickly/are therefore often the best of the bunch at selection. Not that I care, but I'm just intrigued, did anyone have a 5aa/5ab/5ba blast transferred and if so, was the baby born male or female?

Two children from 5aa blasts. One boy, one girl. The boy was hatching, the girl wasn’t.

MadameDragon · 08/05/2022 20:08

(Separate pregnancies, not twins)

SoloIVFer · 08/05/2022 21:43

Interesting, thanks! Anyone else??

Ours is a boy, but our embryologist said 4 was better than 5 as they do better if they don't hatch before implantation. So our boy was a 4aa.

Ginger1982 · 08/05/2022 21:51

My 5AA was a boy.

IVFdreams2021 · 08/05/2022 21:54

Our clinic just Grades A/B/C and our A is a boy

BrilloSolar · 08/05/2022 22:02

Ooh interesting. I never got a grade like that but we had 4 embryos frozen from 21 egg// 19 fertilised. I always guessed/ assumed they'd be boys, based on the fact that boy embryos grow faster so the 4 they froze at day 5 would have been the fasted of the 19. (obviously very loose science!)

However, embryo 1=not implanted, embryo 2=boy baby, embryo 3=not emplanted, embryo 4= boy baby.

So yeah, it was true for me!

RosieLeeD · 08/05/2022 22:05

Boy for me!

SoloIVFer · 08/05/2022 23:15

Only one girl from a 5aa so far!! Anyone else?

I know you are interested in the excellent grades OP but I had 2 5bb embryos transferred - first was DD and she was really mid hatch when she went in (lovely peanut shape) and the second was DS who had only just, just started to hatch (he was a 4 until the moment before the transfer). My DD always measured ahead and my DS is always measuring slightly behind.

Boy here, 5AA

knittedwithme · 09/05/2022 05:56

My single embryo turned into 3 boys!
Holding two in my arms this morning Smile

Marty13 · 09/05/2022 06:06

@knittedwithme identical triplets ? That sounds amazing and terrifying at the same time !

Marty13 · 09/05/2022 06:08

Btw OP, I had IUI and not IVF but my friend's sluggish, low quality embryo turned into a beautiful little boy.

I read an article suggesting that IVF actually favours girls, the numbers I remember were 53%-56% of girls being born from IVF (the exact proportion depended on when the embryo was put back in).

Carbis · 09/05/2022 06:09

Another boy here.

He is absolutely non stop, we always wonder whether that has anything to do with him being our front runner embryo.

knittedwithme · 09/05/2022 06:11

@Marty13 sadly the third baby did not progress very far, though without sounding cruel it made the pregnancy safer for the remaining two. Identical twins. Full of beans! XxX

LemingtonPolly · 09/05/2022 06:13

That's so interesting I did not know this!

My 5AA was a boy 💙

ellesbellesxxx · 09/05/2022 06:14

Mine were only early blastocysts on day 5 so both lagging: b/g twins. 5 years on I still find all of it fascinating!

miamiibiza · 09/05/2022 06:18

My 2 best embryos are now boys, ages 2 and 7. And both are constantly running, jumping and climbing!

SoloIVFer · 09/05/2022 06:52

So interesting. Are we yet to find more than one 5aa girl then? Seems the stats are correct!

I've read that most if the lesser quality ones are girls. But if you have a 5aa transfered, it's very likely to be a boy! (70%)+

To the lady whi fell pregnant with identical triplets, wow! Sorry to hear one was lost. I think as a solo mum, twins feels quite a fear for me!!

RedPandaFluff · 09/05/2022 07:02

5AA girl here! Hatching blast.

knittedwithme · 09/05/2022 07:12

@SoloIVFer Thankyou. I hear you. Twins is not easy and solo would be a challenge indeed!

Embryo splits are rare but are most likely to happen with frozen embryos apparently...

Same here - busy boy 👍🏼

SoloIVFer · 09/05/2022 08:17

@RedPandaFluff woo!! This is apparently rare! Mine was 5aa hatching too and I'm prepared for a boy but you never know!

@knittedwithme is that right!?!. How fascinating. I wonder why that is! I have loads of twins in my family. 2 sets are identical, one on mum's side (my great uncles) and one on dad's side (my cousins).

My single 5aa embryo split into identical twin girls. Currently 29 weeks pregnant with them
