Were your top quality blasts (5aa/5ab/5ba) born male or female?

The embryologist who selected my 5aa blast to transfer said because it was graded as 5aa, it was likely to be a male baby! Apparently 70%+ of 5aa/5ab/5ba blasts are male because the male embryos grow more quickly/are therefore often the best of the bunch at selection. Not that I care, but I'm just intrigued, did anyone have a 5aa/5ab/5ba blast transferred and if so, was the baby born male or female?

Boy. And he's very, very energetic like PP's boys 😁

LondonladyTTC · 09/05/2022 08:38

Oh wow this is interesting! Currently 16 weeks with a 5BA, we aren't finding out but sounds quite likely it's a little boy 🥰

TheArtfulScreamer1 · 09/05/2022 08:39

My 5AA is a girl one who is forthright, confident, articulate and bright and will make a fabulous adult I've just got to survive her childhood to see it 😀

Matilda128 · 09/05/2022 08:47

My girl was a 5AA blastocysts. We were convinced she would be a boy (I heard the same theory) and there were only girls on both sides of the family (5 in total) so statistically a boy was due. But she is definitely a beautiful 10 week old girl ❤

SoloIVFer · 09/05/2022 08:50

@Donimo amazing!! Congrats. Can I ask, did you get stronger positive results early on with them as they were twins? I find identical twins fascinating!! I've been looking to see at what stage the split actually occurs, like how many days past transfer. Someone above said more likely with frozen embryos, was you're fresh or frozen?,

Congrats to you all! This is a fascinating discussion for me!!

The split can occur at any point which will determine whether your twins share a sac/placenta or not.
most but not all ID twins are MODI. But my triplet was in his own sac so his split must have occurred a day or so after...
It is fascinating.
There's some thought that the egg may be weaker and split itself to save itself which is how it occurs. But I don't know if anyone really knows.
Sorry to hjack your thread!

I don’t know the exact grade of my embryos, but I had a five-day blastocyst that wasn’t yet hatching, but was described as “top quality” and “like a picture from a textbook”. She’s now a four-year-old girl.

I’m sure I remember reading that a hatching blastocyst is more likely is more likely to be abou.

doingitforthegirls · 09/05/2022 09:23

I have IVF ICSI twins

It's most likely that my 5BA is my boy as he was "fresh" and hatching on transfer and that my day 6 4BB is my girl as she was frozen and always measured several days behind her brother

My friend who transferred a 5AA also had a boy

It's not so much the quality it's that "boy" embryos tend to develop faster so generally chosen first by an embryologist you transfer so you tend to see more 2-3 embryos and day 6s also being girls

But the difference % wise is very small

Cattenberg · 09/05/2022 09:29

Argh! *I’m sure I remember reading that a hatching blastocyst is more likely to be a boy.

@SoloIVFer I tested obviously positive from 4 days prior to my otd (first test I took). And knew it would be positive as had the same symptoms as when pregnant previously. But my previous pregnancy (natural conception) was a strong positive from 4 days prior to the date my period was due too. I had bad naesea and sickness with both pregnancies. But from early on till week 8 the symptoms were actually worse in my single pregnancy and from 8 weeks to 16 weeks much worse with the twin pregnancy. So not sure I can read too much into it.

I really didn't expect it to be twins and was a massive shock at my 7 week viability scan to find out!

Aspo · 30/04/2023 01:39

5AA embryo male
very complicated pregnancy

Bradsgoodreally · 30/04/2023 13:24

Does the fact that boy embryos develop a bit faster right at the beginning mean that boy babies are more likely to have their due date brought forward at the 12 week scan? I have two boys who both had their due dates brought forward by several days. I do not have a daughter so I do not know if the same thing would happen for me with a baby girl.

febrezeme · 30/04/2023 20:21

My due date was bought forward with my girl so I don't think that a thing to be Honest x

Imisscoffee2021 · 01/05/2023 08:20

Boy here, in a group I'm on on here though of the IVF pregnancies I'm the only boy, the other ladies have girls :)

catchthedog · 01/05/2023 08:25

mine was a boy (frozen 5 day)
and yep his due date brought forward 5 days too.

GoneTillNovember · 01/05/2023 08:26

I had four 5AA embryos frozen. First baby was a boy, second was a girl. The other 2 are still frozen so don't know.

I have to say my first is very full on and non-stop, and was a HUGE baby, due date brought forward as well.

My accidental natural pregnancy following the 2 frozen embryos was a girl.

LondonladyTTC · 02/05/2023 21:43

I had a 5BA baby boy, and his due date was only brought forward by one day.

TwinsG · 31/05/2023 22:39

My granddaughters were 5aa - identical twins

SMBCmama · 31/05/2023 22:55

I had a 5AB boy! I have 3 Frosties, one 3BB, one 4BC and one 4BB and wonder if my 3BB is more likely to be a girl.

SMBCmama · 31/05/2023 22:55

Oh and my 5AB boy had his due date brought forward 2 days
