Private Gender Scan at 15 weeks

Hi All, I'm fairly new to mumsnet as It's my first pregnancy. Yesterday I had a private gender scan at 15 +2 because I'm so eager and just want to buy lovely clothes. The sonographer revealed a girl and I'm over the moon as wanted my first to be girl. I had this gut feeling all these weeks was boy so it's a shock, just want it to be true but honestly I can't see anything on there (scan) which suggests female. All I was told is a girl and given a pic I can't make sense of. How accurate are these things and has anyone been disappointed in gender or rather sex determination scans? My mate said it was definitely a boy based on nub at 13 week dating scan so any input would be appreciated.

Wow your view is so much clearer though you can see legs. Are you expecting a wee girl also?

Looks like a girl to me too. Do you have your 13 week scan you could post?

Nikki037297 · 16/04/2022 21:45

Yes mine looks the same I was 14+5 on my gender scan and they said girl. I’m yet to confirm as it was only 1 week ago. Everyone said girl form the nub. Have you got a picture of your nub shot?

At the risk if sounding like an arsehole, I'm sure a qualified sonographer knows more than your mate who looked at the nub.

Little girls are so exciting, congratulations I've posted the shot. Apologies guys I'm just getting used to the mumsnet platform, and had to google what DD, DS and DH mean, although I'd rather deduct the D from the latter Grin

It’s not always possible to get a clear ‘potty shot’ where the parents can see clearly but the sonographer will have looked from several different angles and given you their professional opinion which, although never 100% accurate, will always be more accurate than guesses based on a single image.

I thought we were having a boy until 12 week scan I just got a feeling it was a girl (no visible nub or anything not an expert though). Sex scan at 16 weeks determined a girl - they look for three parallel lines between the legs for a girl and mine was pretty clear. Now 30 weeks and had it confirmed multiple times since so was definitely accurate. Unless it's not a very clear picture I think they are fairly accurate Smile

Totally agree, however I'm not entirely sure the private clinics always use trained and professional personnel, the gender scan only cost 60 quid so that's why I'm sceptical. TBF to my friend she is a radiologist with the NHS although they are two very different fields. Cheers

Where did you have your gender scan? All of the clinics near me use sonographers (myself included) who were trained by the NHS and most of us still work in the NHS alongside some private work

ChloeHel · 16/04/2022 23:02

Looks like a girl potty shot to me, but tbh 15 weeks is still early. I’d wait until your 20 week anomaly scan and ask if they can tell you the sex of the baby then.

That's so reassuring, it was at meet your miracle who do have great feedback however the 4 ladies before me were clearly showing, so further along than me with their balloons and confetti. I wish I waited a little longer now because I jinx things Sad

@inappropriateraspberry
Off the top of my head I would suggest that people are excited and want to see their baby

But you have scans anyway and you'll see them soon enough when you give birth, it's not like you don't know if it's a human, kitten or elephant!

MojoJojo71 · 16/04/2022 23:25

I’ve not heard of them @Newmummy1022 but hopefully like most other clinics they are NHS staff working a bit of overtime.

The photo you shared at the beginning does look like a girl to me but like I said it can be hard to tell from a single shot. Maybe hold off on buying too much until you have your anomaly scan in a few weeks and hopefully the sonographer can confirm the sex for you.

Thank you for the advice, I'll definitely wait until my anomaly scan. Just out of curiosity, given your expertise, what would you make of my 13 week dating scan I posted earlier? Smile

I'm not sure they are all qualified. When I had mine they told me my baby had a cleft pallet and lip. I left in floods of tears. I immediately got an NHS one who confirmed no cleft. So no I'm not convinced they all know what they are talking about

MissMaple82 · 17/04/2022 00:04

Tbh the 13 week scan looks boy to me. The dangle is upwards not horizontal

Maternitynamechange · 17/04/2022 00:06

Congratulations OP! I can see why your friend thought boy based on the 13 week scan though!

Newmummy1022 · 17/04/2022 00:35

@Maternitynamechange I know this is why I'm so confused, I honestly can't see these supposed 3 lines google keeps banging on about for female genitalia haha. My friend also mentioned that the skull was male in my 13 week scan , no idea what that means
