Hi all,

I'm 42 and got my BFP on weds, so it's still very early days, but I thought I'd put up a thread for any older mums who want to join in. Fingers crossed I'll be due two weeks after my daughter's 2nd birthday and a month before my 43rd birthday. We had 2 losses due before my daughter so I'm a little anxious but quietly excited too!

I registered and it took a week to get a call from midwife team. Apparently there are a lot of women getting pregnant this year... Post COVID maybe?... Got asked to download badger notes and bring a morning urine sample. X

So happy I found this thread I'm 42 and currently 24 weeks pregnant this will be my 5th child
It still doesn't feel real 😂 I'm flying through this pregnancy I feel really good. its all the negativity that's getting me down and all the pitty looks I get off people . I had someone come up to me last week and say .. do you realise that you are 42 and way too old to start again . Made me feel like crap 😪

MariaDingbat · 11/06/2023 09:44

Don't feel bad, that's a really rude thing to say! I'm 43 and am feeding my 6 month old while my 2 1/2 year old is playing in the garden. It's not too old, loads of people our age we know have kids under 4. Good luck!

I am 43 and very shock after irregular cycles dodgy hormones and def no planning. I am 5.5 weeks. Have 2 sons ages 17 & 6. Not sure what to think I am terrified of going back to baby days a lot to get my head around.

MariaDingbat · 11/06/2023 21:47

@MayfireAmbergreen I'm so sorry to read of your loss and I hope this pregnancy is joyful and not too demanding. Good luck with your midwife appointment!

Hi all, I'm really glad to read so many lovely stories of us "older" ladies and our bumps. I heard so many horror stories when I was younger and how hard it is to have babies as you get older and that it's a really terrible idea, so I hope more ladies find this thread and take a little bit of comfort from our stories.

My bump is now 6 months old and she's sleeping soundly in the cot next to me. She's brilliant and has the best giggles. I was knocked for six by morning sickness for the first few months and very tired by the end of the pregnancy but the planned section went great and I've recovered fine thankfully. Good luck to everyone and I'd love to hear how everyone else is getting on too!

Glad all went well OP :) congrats on your little one. Mine is now 9 months old, definitely feeling my age more with this one, she's worth it though :) hope all goes well for the newbies to this thread

Jaystarlight · 12/06/2023 11:04

@MariaDingbat so pleased you have your little baby so lovely. The sickness is truly vile and depressing when did yours start and finish ? X

MariaDingbat · 12/06/2023 11:30

@Jaystarlight It's awful isn't it! I had it much worse with my second pregnancy and started throwing up at week 7, had to take weeks 8-11 off work and was close to needing to go to the hospital as hardly anything was staying down but thankfully it started to ease off in week 12 and was completely gone by week 16. I thought I was fine once I stopped throwing up but looking back I was still exhausted after basically having a vomiting bug for three months. I hope you feel better very soon and, if you can, take it easy for a while once you do.

@MariaDingbat bless you sounds awful. Did you try any medication ? Can I ask how did you fund the sleepless nights ? I am scared if sleep deprivation as I really struggle with lack of sleep esp being that but older now. X

Late joiner here! I'm 42, 9+4 today. After four rounds of ivf I'm finally pregnant. Delighted to have found this thread ♥️

Matildahoney · 12/06/2023 13:37

I've just found this thread, please can I join?
I'm 40 and 10+5 today. 1st baby 🤞 2nd pregnancy, hoping for a sticky one this time! Due January.
For those of you that have younger children already, how do you find being an older mum?

Jaystarlight · 12/06/2023 13:38

@CR7 bless you what a journey so pleased for you x

CR7 · 12/06/2023 14:27

Thank you @Jaystarlight ! Lovely to have found such a positive thread. Some of the others i'm in are not.... Xx

Jaystarlight · 12/06/2023 16:47

@CR7 i could not agree more and you sadly get overlooked x

TT82 · 12/06/2023 17:18

Hi all,
Could I join you, even though we are still in the trying stage... I am 41, last year had 3 chemicals and then not even those 😞 Have a planed IVF start in August first time
Very positive to read your posts and hear good news!!!! Gives me some hope!!! So thank you ❤️
I had my dd when I was 19 (lots of judgment then), then my ds when was 32 and now really hope we could have number 3 too 😌

40plusmama · 12/06/2023 20:32

Just wanted to pop an update on, I posted on the thread on 23 August last year. My little girl was born on 9th April and I'll be 41 in June. Absolutely sailed through pregnancy, delivery wasn't too bad either (thank god for epidural!!) Sleep deprivation however... I don't think anyone can prepare you at all! Currently laid with her on my chest and it's the best feeling. Newborn days are hard, I'm not going to lie - but I'm so pleased we were blessed with her and don't regret it at my age for one second. She's starting to smile now and it's just heart melting. Good luck everyone pregnant and trying - it's not too late 🥰

Know how you feel Anjie80. There is one friend who I am so close too but don't want to tell for the very reason you mentioned.

Awful isn't it :( wish people would keep their opinions to them self's.. im happy and thats all matters

Littlemiss42andfabulous · 15/06/2023 23:52

Hi @Matildahoney I naturally conceived my daughter when I was 41, and had her last January, 6 weeks before turning 42- I have loved being an older mum! I don't think I have anything harder than any one younger than me- the pregnancy and birth were fairly straightforward and I've loved every bit of motherhood, even the broken night sleep, as I've been waiting so long to experience being a mum. Amazingly am currently 12 weeks pregnant with our second (conceived naturally) aged 43 😊

airmaxJ · 16/06/2023 00:38

Hi all hope everyone is well . I'm going to follow this thread I'm 34 weeks and 40 years old and feeling very blessed and excited about my surprise little miracle.
