Hi all,

I'm 42 and got my BFP on weds, so it's still very early days, but I thought I'd put up a thread for any older mums who want to join in. Fingers crossed I'll be due two weeks after my daughter's 2nd birthday and a month before my 43rd birthday. We had 2 losses due before my daughter so I'm a little anxious but quietly excited too!

@Overthehillandpreggy congratulations! I feel shocked too and I’ve known for a bit longer, it’s just so surreal.

MariaDingbat · 18/05/2022 21:01

Hi everyone, hope you're all well. I had my scan today and everything went great thankfully! We saw a little wriggly teddy bear with a great heartbeat. Just the harmony test results to get through and my booking appointment next Thursday and we can start telling people. I'm still full of anxiety that something will do wrong because of my age, but hopefully that will only be for another week or so.

@DangerouslyBored and @feistymumma yep, pregnancy hadn’t entered my head when I was late AGAIN….. nah, can’t be pregnant….. far too old… definitely don’t have eggs left, that aren’t pickled by red wine! 😱

Very nervous, I want an early scan, but I don’t want to hear bad news.
I’ve got a 21yr old (first marriage) and 15, 8 from second LTR.

what’s a harmony test??
im so out of touch with this, I’m waiting on grandkids not growing babies myself 😂😂😂😂

feistymumma · 19/05/2022 12:28

@Overthehillandpreggy hahaha, same story over here. Last year I thought oh gosh how will I even tell the children with my geriatric self when all my other friends have grandchildren. Fast forward to this year and here I am again, I just really don't learn. I keep on saying the chances of me getting pregnant are really slim and then bam I'm pregnant. Thinking of have a c-section and hopefully sterilisation at the same time. I simply cannot keep on popping out babies at my age :)

Merryclaire · 19/05/2022 12:58

Congratulations @Overthehillandpreggy That’s wonderful news!
Don’t know if you were joking about this bit, but a Harmony test is one of the brands of NIPT blood test to check for conditions such as Downs Syndrome (and a couple of others). There are other test brands - I had the Panorama test.
It’s much more accurate than the combined NHS test. It’s not cheap but you may find you can have one for free on the NHS anyway, as your age may make you come back high risk on the combined test.
Hope it all works out for you!

Overthehillandpreggy · 19/05/2022 17:09

Thanks @Merryclaire
never heard of it but will definitely be investing xx

MariaDingbat · 25/05/2022 19:56

12 weeks today and got my NIPT results and everything came back low risk thankfully, I'm so relieved. Have my 12 week scan and booking in tomorrow and, if all goes well, we're going to start telling people. Eep! It's all getting very real.

@MariaDingbat sounds amazing!

CatMumFTM22 · 27/05/2022 02:51

How is everyone doing? I'm 31 weeks now and feel so tired most days!

ChagSameachDoreen · 27/05/2022 07:14

Hi! Is it too late for me to join?

I turned 41 in March, and am currently 5w2d with baby number 2. DD was born September 2020.

We started trying for #2 just before DD turned 1, and it took us 9 months. I'm currently still finding it hard to believe I'm pregnant again! We had just gone for preliminary fertility tests, and the next cycle I got a BFP.

My booking in appointment isn't until June 28th, which seems so far ahead. I've booked a private reassurance scan for June 26th. I'm also thinking of having a NIPT too.

starflake · 27/05/2022 10:35

Hey guys!! I’m 43 and will have just turned 44 when baby is born! We have 4 girls already, youngest is 2 and just found out on Monday we are expecting a boy 💙 pregnancy going perfectly so far

Merryclaire · 27/05/2022 12:26

Congratulations @ChagSameachDoreen and @starflake!

@CatMumFTM22 I’m doing well thanks - feel tired a lot of the time too - a lot more effort to walk up the stairs these days!

Nittersing · 27/05/2022 12:38

Wow, there's lots of lovely success stories here and some happy surprises. Congratulations everyone!

I'm 44, and have been trying for baby#5 for 2 years. I've had heaps of chemicals and had pretty much given up hope. I'm about 5 weeks ish and I'm starting to get hopeful that this one will stick. I've had my hcg results back at 700 which the doc said is lowish for 5 weeks so I have to do a follow up to make sure it's rising.

Best wishes everyone for a healthy pregnancy 💞

winsones · 04/06/2022 08:18

Hello all 👋🏻
I'm 43 and will be 44 when this bundle hopefully arrives. Currently 8 weeks today.
We have a six year old boy and always wanted another and after two miscarriages four years ago (mc at 6 weeks and mmc at 10 weeks), were of the mind of if it doesn't happen so be it. It's happened... excited but anxiety is all over the show. Over analysing every single thing.
Physically feel fitting than ever and am carrying on with my karate and paddleboarding (both with sensible precautions).
I've self-referred and am waiting to hear from my midwife.
Everything is crossed!

LaddieCthulu · 05/06/2022 19:18

Hello! Please let me know if I am just too young for this thread, I may be a slight imposter. I am pregnant with my first, who is due on 1st September, which is a few weeks after my 40th birthday. The obstetrician was very clear that I will be 40 when the baby arrives. Thank you, doctor, I know!

breakingthebank · 05/06/2022 19:40

Hi all! So glad to find this thread. I'm 43 and just found out on Friday that I'm pregnant with baby number 4. My dcs are 17, 14 and 8 and I've been feeling a bit anxious about starting again at my age. After actively ttc without success for several years in my late 30s and recently being diagnosed with a hormone imbalance I didn't think I'd be able to have any more children so this is definitely a lovely surprise!

Dolly42 · 06/06/2022 00:23

winsones · 07/06/2022 16:37

@Dolly42 how did the scan go? x

Donnz81 · 08/06/2022 14:29

Hi everyone, so I'm 40 and 41 in October. I was 7 days late and put it down to having covid again in March and messing up my periods. As since then I've had one late and one early in May. Yesterday I thought I will do a test. So I'm still really in shock that I'm actually pregnant again. I have 3 boys 20, 16 and one turning 8 next month. I didn't want anymore so it's still sinking in. Just phoned the doctors. I've got to go and fill a form in so a midwife can get in touch with me. I've only told two of my closest friends and the other half. I said I'm opting in for a CS and going to see if they can tie my tubes at the same time. Anxiety is so bad atm I'm so scared xx

Dolly42 · 08/06/2022 15:24

Hi nothing showed up on the scan had bloods taken and hcg was only 89 so have to have them redone tomorrow but not hopefully as still bleeding 😕

heaven2013 · 12/06/2022 09:13

Hi everyone,

I’m pleased I found this tread. I’ve had a shock finding out I’m pregnant at 41. My husband and I tried for years and where told we where infertile and now hear we are. I’m between 6 and 7 weeks. I have two teenagers from a previous marriage and am worried about how they will take the news when it comes time to tell them. I’m just taking each day as it comes just now though. I hope everyone is well.

40plusmama · 23/08/2022 09:17

Hello! I'm new 😊 I was 40 in June and I'll be 8 weeks pregnant on Wednesday with my first baby. This was a complete surprise... I left a nine year highly abusive relationship at the beginning of the year. I have a male best friend of 14 years - turns out we've had feelings for each other the whole time! Anyway, things developed, we're very much in love and have been gifted our little bump 💕 I have no idea what to expect and it's come as a total shock. I can't believe how things have worked out, the start of the year I was very ill, a shadow of my former self and I now have a lovely relationship with someone who would do anything for me and we're going to be parents. Way to go, 2022 💪😂

EL8888 · 23/08/2022 15:49

Thanks! I’m 42, baby will arrive when lm 43. We have been trying for over 4 years and it was our 3rd round of IVF.

I’m 5 weeks tomorrow, contacted antenatal services to register myself last week but no response. I’m finding it a bit stressful as l am conscious we will want all of the checks due to our ages and the tests are time sensitive

MayfireAmbergreen · 08/06/2023 19:47

Hi all!
I'm 44 and 7 weeks pregnant. I'm very lucky it's all happened naturally after 4 months of trying. My partner and I are really excited as it's a new start for both of us. He doesn't see his children and I lost my son when he was 16, 6 years ago this year.
I also have a 17 year old daughter who I haven't told yet as she didn't like the idea of having a much younger sibling when my partner and I have discussed having a baby. Any advice on how to tell her and get her involved?
I'm thinking she needs to come along to first scan etc and maybe pregnancy classes?
Sending love and blessings to all in this group X for a healthy and happy pregnancy x
