I had sugaring done before birth and I'd rate it a 3/10 on pain. So much better than traditional wax strips!

blockbustervideo · 20/03/2022 14:18

Yes got a wax about a week before birth both times!

Wanted my midwife to be able to clearly see where she was doing my stitches Blush

diamondpony80 · 20/03/2022 14:48

Nope. Doctors and midwives have seen it all. And once you’re in labour you really won’t care what you look like.

Mommabear20 · 20/03/2022 14:54

A lot of medical professionals don't recommend it as it can increase your risk of infection. I wouldn't risk it

Whatdramain2022 · 20/03/2022 15:08

With my first two, the midwife shaved me. The prickly regrowth was a miserable part of the post partum time. By the time I had the third, shaving was no longer obligatory. It was so much better.

ReeseWitherfork · 20/03/2022 15:16

How are you all even laying on your backs for it let alone any of the other reasons not to?

itssquidstella · 20/03/2022 16:41

@ReeseWitherfork my salon has a bed a bit like a hospital trolley, which can be raised at one end, so there's no lying flat required.

SecondhandTable · 20/03/2022 16:45

Yes but only extended bikini not like all gone or anything. Would never get rid of it all normally like anyway. My last wax was when I was over 40 weeks haha. Baby is 5 months and yet to have time to return...

Who said they want to look good for the doctors and midwives. It never crossed my mind to think what they might think!

Shmithecat2 · 20/03/2022 17:08

I had a full leg and bikini wax at 39 weeks. I get waxed regularly, I didn't see pregnancy as a reason not to. It didn't hurt any more than usual.

@fridaRose sorry not the point of the post but I'm interested in your lasering experience. How much hair reduction have you had? Has any grown back since you had it done if it was many years ago? I'm currently having a course of laser treatment

I don't understand how you can tell someone else what they will feel during labour. I know women who did care, and women who don't. We're not all the same. If having a wax makes someone feel more comfortable, entirely their choice.

willwewontwe · 20/03/2022 20:15

I don’t know if this is weird but I’ve never let a soul (other than the waxing lady) see me when things are unkept down there so the idea of baring all to a room full of strangers at any given moment kept me up at night 😂 I had a section and you weren’t allowed to shave within a week of the surgery. I tried not to look down while on the table so I didn’t know when I was ‘exposed’ 🙈 To my amazement I realised a few days later that they had somehow shaved me without me even knowing!

willwewontwe · 20/03/2022 20:17

Although in saying that (tmi warning), I was so ‘swollen’ down there I really wouldn’t have wanted to get it out for the waxing lady 😭😂

I didn’t with my first and ended up with a lot of stitches that I found hard to clean, so with the second I got a full wax to help any cleaning afterwards. Needlesstosay I didn’t have any stitches with the second!

It did take me a lot of treatments, probably monthly for two years to get it 'permanently' smooth?

I'm the only "hairy" one like that it seems - all my girlfriends have fully stopped using a razor after about 12 monthly treatments. They do say you need about 10.

It's a cliche as everyone says it but it really was one of the best things I've done. No more rash, ingrown hair, etc. It's really worth it :) I'm saving up to do my legs now.

bringonsummer2022 · 20/03/2022 22:22

I did both times. It didn't hurt any more than normal - if you're used to being waxed it's totally fine.
I figured it would be too difficult to get it done after with a newborn, I felt so gross at the bleeding and deflated belly stage (yes aware other women fee like goddesses, I'm not one of them) and being hairy would have just been itchy and made me feel worse.
Also, you can't use bubble bath until any wounds heal so when you soak in the bath after you just get to sit and look at your lower body.

mowglika · 20/03/2022 22:25

I wouldn’t say a wax is pampering, but def planning to have one, not least because I will bleed buckets and it’s much more hygenic when there isn’t globs of blood caught in my fanny hairs Grin

Can’t be bothered with other pampering stuff but hair cut is a good idea, just to keep it manageable after the birth

XioXio · 21/03/2022 15:50

@fridaRose thanks. That's helpful. I'm getting full legs, bikini and underarms done. Just had session 2 of 10. 🤞
