I did, although my first 2 babies came early & I had been planning one more appointment.

I do it for me, I like the area being neat & tidy.

I think if it's something you feel prepares you for birth, do it!

boymummys · 19/03/2022 20:40

@mindfulmotherhood very difficult haha, I just guess shave but use the other hand to check if I'm missing anywhere, I just find it more comfortable when I'm shaven, I do it often to avoid pulling or tugging on the hair so it stops any rashes or spots

motherof3bambinos · 20/03/2022 00:08

@boymummys yes personally I find it definitely feels cleaner too. Will just have to take more time. Honestly wasn't expecting so much strong opinions regarding hair removal on this thread though 😆

CollyFleur · 20/03/2022 00:13

Those photos are around for ever!!!

Mmm, what kind of photos? Blush

AHungryCaterpillar · 20/03/2022 00:16

No and honestly I think it’s a bit odd.

PiesNotGuys · 20/03/2022 00:25

Not for me. I found the area easy to keep clean, I washed it, as I’m sure you do regardless of hair levels.

Nobody saw the area for more than a brief second and it wasn’t in its best state when they were looking, they were not looking at or for hair.

Nobody touched the area or stitched it or checked it or examined it at any point. It’s private and I’m happy it has remained that way.

Perhaps to people used to baring all for waxing the childbirth process is not as difficult as it otherwise might be - I hope so! But giving birth does not mean baring all or being made to feel uncomfortable and exposed, that does not have to be part of it.

I would happy give birth again tomorrow but I wouldn’t voluntarily have hairs torn out of my genitals.

Good luck!

No and honestly I think it’s a bit odd.
Why? Why is it odd? Some women choose to wax or otherwise remove hair from that area, others don't. Neither choice is 'odd'.
AHungryCaterpillar · 20/03/2022 00:48

Doing it specifically for giving birth I find odd. Obviously if you do it all the time then fine but doing it in preparation for giving birth. Yes to me that is odd and weird.

AHungryCaterpillar · 20/03/2022 00:52

And yes people do specially do if for giving birth, I’ve heard friends saying they couldn’t possibly let the midwives see them hairy so they would be getting it waxed in preparation, also heard someone asking their oh to shave it as the midwives can’t see them hairy, just seems odd and sad to me!

AuntTwacky · 20/03/2022 00:54

Why??

AuntTwacky · 20/03/2022 00:55

Cleaner?! Rubbish... how clean will you be after having a baby and will you care?

AHungryCaterpillar · 20/03/2022 00:57

Because it’s a bit sad that people think the midwives CARE if it’s hairy. Doing it because you are worried about people seeing it hairy is strange. That’s my opinion. They don’t care and it’s sad people think they do.

Agree
TheSmallAssassin · 20/03/2022 01:05

I didn't, but I have never waxed anything, I like the au naturel look so it wouldn't be pampering for me.

Bouledeneige · 20/03/2022 01:13

I guess everyone realises that having pubic hair is natural and normal for giving birth and anything else is just a bit weird. And that having children is an expensive business so maybe worth saving a few pennies for.

FavouritePi · 20/03/2022 01:36

People do but my last midwife specifically said that it risks infection and advised not to. More kept tidy, if anything.

florianfortescue · 20/03/2022 02:51

I did the first time, didn't bother the second. I actually find having hair provided a bit of "cushioning" during labour and post partum.

HoppingPavlova · 20/03/2022 03:03

Why?

I really can’t imagine having my fanny waxed pampering. A facial yes, this no. As for having it for photos, what photos are you planningConfused.

SD1978 · 20/03/2022 03:09

Yes I did, but purely because I always had- wasn't done specially. Got the final one at about 38 weeks. I probably wouldn't have gone out my way to if it wasn't an already regular thing, and now you couldn't pay me enough to have anyone down there......🤣🤣

Izzy24 · 20/03/2022 03:14

@PotteringAlong

My midwife expressly told me not to (not that I would have done anyway, the idea fills me with horror) because if you wax or shave then there are the potential for a 1000 tiny cuts and that’s an infection risk.
This.
Amei · 20/03/2022 03:27

I did! I had a wax every 4 weeks, any my last one was 2 days before I gave birth. It was no more painful than usual. It was the first post birth wax that filled me with fear. But that was also fine, although slightly embarrassing when she asked if I wanted her to do my bum hole and I had to quickly advise her 'no I've got piles from the birth' 🤣

1forAll74 · 20/03/2022 03:40

When I had my first child, a son, in 1971. I was in a small kind of old maternity home. It seemed customary there, for the nurses to give all the women a shave before giving birth, and also an enema. The enema was horrible, and the nurse just came along with a little bowl of warm soapy water, and a razor to shave you.

BeckyWithTheGoodHair010101 · 20/03/2022 04:08

Haha I do, really more for me than them!

Trust me, when you're in the middle of birthing a baby you won't give a shiny shit what your nether regions look like any more than the midwives! Promise!

boymummys · 20/03/2022 05:52

@motherof3bambinos

I find it cleaner aswell, no I wouldn't of either. I understand if you don't ever shave/wax but if it's a standard thing to do in your very day life then I don't see a problem with it? It's like washing your hair for me. If I get a bath and my hairs due a wash and I don't wash it I don't feel clean. However if I get a bath, have a shave and wash my hair, and clean bedding I tend to find i feel cleaner and I sleep better 😂 after I gave birth, I had a tear and an episiotomy and couldn't shave for two weeks untill I stopped bleeding and stitches had healed. I felt uncomfortable. I still showed midwife stitches were
Healing fine and didn't care there was hair there. Because I actually couldn't shave. It has nothing to do with having Pubic hair it's how and what makes you feel comfortable!
