Anterior placenta - when will I feel movement?

Hi lovely ladies!

Sorry if this has been asked before.
I’m 19 weeks pregnant with my first baby and I have an anterior placenta. My doctor listened to her last week with the Doppler and she kept kicking but I can’t feel a thing!

If you had/ have an anterior placenta with your first, when did you feel movement that you recognised to be the baby for sure?

Thanks x

I started feeling bubbles (kind of felt like wind Blush) from about 21/22 weeks. My placenta is anterior but high, so I felt these v low down.

I'm now 27+1 and I've been feeling definite movements like a rolling sensation and what might be a foot or elbow for the last couple of weeks.

It's so reassuring to finally feel that! After 3 MCs I was so worried about not feeling anything.
Hang in there, I'm sure you'll start feeling more soon.

tealandteal · 04/03/2022 13:56

I felt the first movement just after my 20 week scan. I can feel them much better lying down on my side.

SnowdropFox · 04/03/2022 15:18

I felt kicks at 19 weeks on the button with my first with an AP. Never felt bubbles or flutters, just straight to kicks. It's like everything with oregano, everyone is different!

SnowdropFox · 04/03/2022 15:18

Erm not oregano, pregnancy!

Angrymum22 · 04/03/2022 15:29

I started feeling bubbling sensation around twenty weeks. With anterior placenta you never see feet and hand shapes. DS used to kick and push against my spine when I was lying down which was like electric shocks running down my back. Also used my bladder as a trampoline.
I found that having a bath made him hyperactive.
In the last trimester he had hiccups every day mid morning. Made my whole bump move up and down.

strawberrysummer19 · 04/03/2022 15:52

I'm pleased to have found this threat
I'm 19+3 and have AP. I'm sure I've felt movements here and there - bubbles and butterflies in my belly type feeling but they never last too long to be sure! One day it was very clear it was movement but not had them since
All over the space of 2 weeks
I'm glad to read that it can be early still x

Thank you everyone for your replies! Thankfully I don’t feel worried about it yet, just would love to feel her 💓 I’m hoping soon then! Xx

I'm just a few weeks ahead of you, anterior placenta here- very very few "muffled" feelings- previous DC I felt every little flutter from very early.

I know it's a busy baby from the scans, but otherwise i just have to wait and hope

Justgamboling · 04/03/2022 18:56

I have AP too, I wasn't worried until people kept asking me whether I could feel kicks. I think I properly started feeling kicks about 24weeks, the week or so before I wasn't sure if I was feeling anything or I was just hungry etc! I'm 28weeks now and it's quite obviously when he is kicking

wishuponastar1988 · 04/03/2022 18:59

I have an anterior placenta too, currently 18 weeks and it's helpful seeing when others felt movement. Had a scan just over a week ago and baby was really kicking which was lovely to see but I just want to feel them Grin

Crimblecrumble1990 · 04/03/2022 19:16

Mine was about 22-24 weeks. I didn’t realise I had an anterior placenta until I could see the baby kicking at my 20 week scan and remarked that I couldn’t feel it.

It never really felt like kicks either - more like a muscle twitching so it wasn’t the feeling that I was expecting.

itssquidstella · 04/03/2022 19:27

I have an anterior placenta and started feeling movement earlier than I was expecting, at just over 18 weeks. However, because he was small enough to hide behind the placenta, it wasn't consistent until I was about 22/23 weeks (I’m 28+5 now) and I actually went into maternity triage a few times freaked out because I couldn't feel him. In a way, it would have been better if I hadn't felt anything for longer, rather than feeling sporadic movements which made me worry when they weren't present!

LittleGwyneth · 04/03/2022 20:46

I had flutters at 14/15 weeks. I was told it couldn't possibly be movement but it 100% was. But I can only feel her in certain positions and even now (34 weeks pregnant) there are places where I don't feel her.

GinnyBee · 05/03/2022 08:37

FTM here with anterior placenta. I started feeling him around 20 weeks, enough for my husband to feel a kick too! Then we had some quieter times for a couple more weeks, the movements weren't consistent, probably depending on whether he was hiding behind the placenta or kicking just to the side of it. I'm now 29 weeks and have been feeling him daily for 2-3 weeks now :) And we have somewhat of a pattern now too. Trust me though, when you're up at 3.30am being kicked from the inside you will remember fondly the days when you couldn't feel the baby and pray for some peace 😂

Cakecakecheese · 06/03/2022 19:18

Just jumping in as I'm 17 weeks and just found out I've got one too so this is really helpful, thanks all Smile

strawberrysummer19 · 06/03/2022 21:25

I've had a few movements tonight - gentle but definitely movements 😀x

Somerandomgirl · 06/03/2022 21:27

20 weeks all of sudden. Dont worry you'll feel them xx

Coco9910 · 07/03/2022 22:25

Hi, I’m 19+4 and found out I have an anterior placenta the other day. I think I’ve been feeling some movements when I’m lay down / lay back but it’s reassuring to know others have started to feel more kicks a few weeks further on than I am. I will keep feeling out for them!

Bootiesandsocks · 08/03/2022 09:55

22 weeks on the dot. Absolutely sweet FA before that!

JasmineW88 · 08/03/2022 10:10

Also pleased I found this thread :)
I am 22 + 2 with Anterior Placenta and still not felt a thing.
I actually bought an at-home doppler to ease my worries, I listen to her heartbeat every night instead :)

Hoping to feel something in the next few weeks.

strawberrysummer19 · 11/03/2022 07:20

@Coco9910 how are you getting on?

@JasmineW88 how are movements now?

We are fairly close in dates and I've still
Not got anything really obvious even though had good 20wks scan and saw her moving around!

Getting a bit anxious as midwife's when i had covid on my daily calls said I should be feeling baby

Trying to reassure myself that on here it's been normal to see around 22wks sometimes

As I say I've been having them just very very gentle ones and not as often as I would like!

Good to know how everyone is getting on xx

jasmine88woo · 11/03/2022 07:50

@strawberrysummer19
Still no movement - I don't think?
I sometimes feel like I can feel a little tiny bubbling or pulsing feeling in my side but not sure if that's just my guts BlushHmmGrin?
Still listening to her heartbeat every couple of days so that's helping me not to worry.
I had to go back on Wednesday for a second scan after my 20week anomaly scan because they couldn't complete the check list the first time due to how she was lying. So I got to see her moving about and breathing on Wednesday too which was lovely Smile!
I'm 23weeks Saturday and my midwife said I should definitely feel kicks and movements by 24weeks....so hoping they come soon.....
How are you all doing? X

strawberrysummer19 · 11/03/2022 07:54

@jasmine88woo it's sort of reassuring to hear
As I do feel a bit worried ! But no I shouldn't
It's so reassuring to hear and see bubs when you aren't feeling too much movement isn't it
But I feel the worry has been taken over so I'm going to try and relax
I'm seeing midwife next Wednesday so looking forward to hearing heartbeat again
Hopefully soon you'll be feeling them so strong! Xx

Marilla1966 · 11/03/2022 08:21

I had an anterior placenta 8 years ago. Didn’t feel any movement or kicks until around 25/26 weeks. Midwife pre warned me so I knew not to worry. X

Coco9910 · 11/03/2022 08:36

@strawberrysummer19 I feel like I’ve felt a couple of twitches / pops every day but I can’t be sure if it’s the baby or just my body digesting 😂 But as someone said, if you even think it might be the baby then it is the baby so I’m running with that! I have my 20 week scan today so going to ask them about movements and when I should expect to feel more so will let you know what they say :)
