@SoMuch2Say that would be a hard pass from me! It sounds horrifying 😂

@ChinChilly @ShellUK09 I think whether you get up in the night must be linked to the baby's position too, not just pelvic floor strength!

I have tried to do a few today just after SoMuch's reminder, but I have no idea if I'm doing it right... I'm just tensing everything down there and hoping the right muscles are working. But sometimes I'm like wait no that's my butt muscle not my lady bits 😂

It’s all the same muscle! Your pelvic floor muscle is effectively a long muscle that sits below your abdomen. The exercises I do in antenatal yoga gets you to separate the squeezes into 1. Front of vulva I.e. clitoris, 2. Vagina /normal muscles you think of and 3. Bum muscles (all separately). It’s eye opening…..

SoMuch2Say · 25/04/2022 23:17

Haha it really wasn’t. No where near a smear and given the whole labour experience is a matter of weeks away we can’t afford to be precious over that kind of thing, I don’t think.

I’m told pelvic floor is important for getting baby’s chin tucked and for your own recovery. It’s not too late to start.

KizboBaggins · 26/04/2022 06:47

@SoMuch2Say haha I know, you're right! I think I'm in complete denial that I'm gonna push a baby out of there in the near future tbh. Good to know about helping the baby's chin tuck as well.

@AppleTree16 that's interesting! I've been thinking about doing some antenatal yoga classes and if they can help with the pelvic floor stuff even more reason to go

SoMuch2Say · 26/04/2022 08:39

@KizboBaggins I know! I’m really trying to pysch myself until for the event.

Also am starting to wonder if I’ve made a mistake not starting my mat leave a little bit before due date. My thinking was that if he’s ‘late’ I’ll be wasting my leave but I’m so tired I can barely hold a thought at the minute.

SamanthaVimes · 26/04/2022 09:13

@SoMuch2Say I’m starting my mat leave the week of my due date but using annual leave before so I won’t be in work for about a month before I’m due.

Last time I worked up until 2 weeks before my due date and it was a bit late for me as I was so exhausted. I was worried about “wasting” my leave too but really I needed the rest. Luckily DD was a week late so I still had time.

This time if baby is late I’ll still be able to spend time with DD so I’m not as worried about finishing earlier.

ChinChilly · 26/04/2022 09:25

Also in denial about pushing a baby out 🙋‍♀️

@SoMuch2Say my mat leave starts 1st July and I'm due 17th kind of regretting not starting earlier because I too am struggling to hold a thought.. I've got a course finishing in June which I need to do an examine and a professional interview and in all honesty I dunno how I'm gonna do it.. my brain is so fuzzy

@ChinChilly yeah same here, it's all starting to feel very real all of a sudden. All births are different though so trying to just get in the go with the flow mindset! My official maternity leave starts on 4th July but I'm using annual leave to leave on 17th June so that's a month before my due date. Things I used to get stressed about at work just aren't bothering me anymore, got more important things to think about now!

Everything is posting a few times today. If you get an error message it has still posted!

Coco9910 · 26/04/2022 10:27

I’m starting my maternity leave on my due date but taking 4 weeks annual leave before hand so I’ve time off before. Some people tried to talk me out of it and said I’d appreciate it more at the end of my maternity leave but I really think I’ll need the rest, and I can spend my days batch cooking for the freezer. And I really think by then I will have mentally switched off at work 😅

Mattieandmummy · 26/04/2022 10:34

Last time I worked until my due date and then thought I had better really stop! But I work for myself so it was more a case of needing to do as much as possible before she arrived, luckily she was a week and a half late so I had a bit of time.

This time, not sure. Still working for myself but only part time now, I think I might work until the week before my C-section. I work from home so at least I don't have to commute.

So great to log in every now and again and see we're all at the same sort of stages, prams, baby stuff, pelvic floor - it's not just me haha!

Anyone have a super old car like us? What do you do about the new isofix car seats? Ours is a Seat Ibiza 2008. We're going to get a new car, but might not be until a good few months after the baby comes. So confused what to do about car seats.

@SoMuch2Say I've been doing a lot of pelvic floor research - I've found DocJenFit on Instagram incredible. She talks about learning to relax the pelvic floor as much as doing kegels, I totally get her point, no need for an over strained muscle! I feel like the health system has gone a bit kegal mad, and that alone isn't actually fully functional for our muscles. Here's one of her posts if it helps! www.instagram.com/p/CU_nR8WrdIZ/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link

I also just realised this week that I know nothing about lloking after a newborn baby! I've been so focussed on my pregnancy (obvs) that I've not clue about after the baby arrives , better get reading😂

Omg sorry everyone! How embarrassing 😂 Mumsnet had a server issues and has now posted my comment 4 times! No idea how to delete!

OMG it posted 4 times! So sorry everyone!

NamelessBaby1 · 26/04/2022 10:58

@ShellUK09 I'm finishing on exactly the same date with my mat leave also kicking in the same day as you, lol. We can have a finishing work party together 😂

Just had my 28week midwife appointment so all is still well, baby bang on average size, and no GD so even better, lol.

Lianna93 · 26/04/2022 11:14

Hi all - hope you're all well!

I seemed to have some difficulties with the app meaning I lost the thread - ended up having to reinstall the app 🤦🏻‍♀️
Massively behind on the chat now 😩

Anyways.

30 weeks today 😁 Feel like time has flown!
Have some annual leave coming up soon & then I'll be on maternity leave after that 😁

ShellUK09 · 26/04/2022 11:34

@NamelessBaby1 wow such a coincidence! Woo hoo can't wait for that day 🎉 I've got my 28 week appt tomorrow, praying it goes okay. Been worried about potentially developing GD, will see what this blood test says. Glad it all went well for you 🙂

ChinChilly · 26/04/2022 11:47

Mumsnet is definitely abit glitchy recently.

I have my 28 week appointment this afternoon, I haven't had the GD test though apparently I didn't need it?

@ShellUK09 I feel like I have mentally checked out of work already, I started permanently working from home 2 weeks ago and I'm so glad it sounds like such a rotten atmosphere in the office atm glad I'm not there.

NamelessBaby1 · 26/04/2022 12:06

Oh lucky you @ChinChilly , the test wasn't quite as horrendous as I'd thought but it was a decidedly unpleasant drink to get through in a fairly short time! I just had to do it as I'm a bit overweight, but I'm glad it came back fine.

I know what you mean re checking out of work though, I'm counting down the weeks now and thinking about my handover (although I don't yet know who I'm handing over to!)
