Sebastian George is a lovely name. Sebastian was in the running when I had my first DS

SSStollenzeit · 29/12/2007 11:46

Why don't they like the name Sebastian? It sounds so ordinary to me these days because it's a very common name in Germany. Is it the more the combination Sebastian George Peach they don't like?

Bit baffled by this one! I'm with Ernest, I was expecting something really weird.

PeachyHasAFiggyPudInTheOven · 29/12/2007 18:52

Phew! They didn't like Stirling much either but Dad is going OTT on the you must change this- I won't of course.

Amazingly my sister was going to give her child the worst name ever (Earl Court) and they didn't complaiN!!! (She changed her mind)

I think its a nice name.

Have you looked at a similar thread on this topic - "How do tell MIL to p* off, re baby name" - or something like that?

InnAFull · 29/12/2007 19:05

Sebastian is a wonderful name, I had it lined up in first place for my little boy - then I had girls. Use it and be proud of it!

estobi1 · 29/12/2007 19:16

it is a nice name. Tell them you are still undecided to get them off your back and when the baby is born call him whatever you want. We did even though my MIL kept trying to change it and to get my 2 year old dd to call her sister by a different name We went and registered the birth within a week and that put an end to it!

Mumblesmummy · 29/12/2007 19:17

Sorry Peachy, I posted on this thread yesterday and then today my in laws go and drive me totally NUTS so I set up my own thread about them in anger (MIL and co trying to chose our sons name, how can I pleasantly tell them to P* off)

FrannyandZooey · 29/12/2007 19:22

I know it's too late now for Peachy, but my advice to anyone else choosing a name is DON'T TELL ANYONE UNTIL THE BABY IS BORN

some bugger will always mock or say they don't like it

keep quiet about your choice until you can introduce them to your baby and say "here is XXXXXX"

if anyone is rude THEN they are really beyond the pale and you can say "excuse me, you are being rude about my son's name, please stop"

Daughter wants to call her first 'Oscar', for some reason all I can think of is a fish?
But I certainly wouldn't oppose her choice. BTW she is only talking of children in 5 years or so.
Ahh.. light bulb flashes.Oscar -fish, there is a type of cold water fish called an oscar.

discoverlife · 30/12/2007 02:10

I also think that Sebastian Peach is a gorgeous name.

MuffinMclay · 30/12/2007 09:32

I think it is a lovely name, and sounds perfect with Peach.

It is sort of on our short list but sounds awkward with our surname.

cass66 · 30/12/2007 09:35

interesting reply from madamez a few pages back, who gave her children 3 names 'cos she hated hers. I have 3 forenames and got teased mercilessly at school because of this. so my kids only have one name and no middle name because of this.

sebastian is ok. not my choice but good and solid. but it is YOUR choice in our culture.

my mum was pushing for potential names for this current pregnancy (only 11 weeks) over xmas, but I wouldn't play. I haven't even discussed it with my husband yet, although I have had thoughts!

stick with it, or keep an open mind until he arrives!

PoinsettiaBouquets · 30/12/2007 10:00

What on earth is wrong with Sebastian? It's not exactly far out is it? Your dad obviously knew someone awful once called Sebastian.
LOL at Earl's Court!

PMSL@Earl Court. Oh dear.

Sebastian Peach is a beautiful name.

ELF1981 · 30/12/2007 10:22

I think it is a lovely name, it is on our boys name list.

When I was pg with DD, we didn't know the sex and we picked Lewis for a boy, and I really loved Evelyn for a girl. My mum loathed the name and said every Evelyn she knew had turned out to be horrible. DH wasn't too keen either.

The day before DD was due, DH said I could pick the girls name, just in case, as we hadn't been able to agree. So I chose Evelyn, with a middle name of Boo (as that is what we had called the bump)

I still get people teasing me about it, but I dont care, her name suits her.

Now I just need to get DH to agree to some other random girls names I like just in case I have another girl in the future!

Clarec22 · 30/12/2007 11:16

I think they are nice names...

Families can be horrid though - my son is Zack Robert Patrick and we got endless comments about the name Zack... One family member even decided they'd just call him Bobby instead?????????!!! How rude!!

Put them straight - not their decision!!!

ELF1981 · 30/12/2007 21:33

thanks hanaflower

frances123 · 30/12/2007 22:39

Sebastian is a lovely name!! Its my DPs xxx

Alishanty · 31/12/2007 12:18

With our first we didn' tell anyone names we had in mind. People can't be rude then. They are less likely to say something when the baby already has its name. You can't please everyone so just go with what you like. We called our son Solomon and my step dad made some offensive comment but we just ignored him. Most people really like the name. The names you have picked are lovely, dp actually wanted to call our son Sebastian.
