I am currently 38+5 with my first and I am just curious really when your first finally got here!

Everyone keeps telling me, 'oh its your first, she will be really late', but just wondering how true that actually is?!

Been having the odd BH's and backache since about 37 and a half weeks, but other than that no signs so far! Baby has been 3/5 engaged since about week 35, and was still the same at my 38 week tuesday just gone.

*Sorry 40+12

Whelmed · 21/01/2022 11:47

My first was 40+9.

Whelmed · 21/01/2022 11:48

I had a sweep, made no difference. Had induction booked but baby came before that thankfully.

whosaidtha · 21/01/2022 11:50

@winterbabyrose

So they are mostly overdue then!

I have been offered a sweep at 40+2 at my next midwife appointment if she isn't here by then.

Sorry if this seems naïve (FTM so this is all new to me), why do some people not take up the opportunity for a sweep? Is there any particular reason or just personal choice?

I'm absolutely convinced sweeps do nothing. Anyone who says they do are just a coincidence. If you are over 40 weeks you are likely to go into labour anyway so the fact that it happened 12hrs after a sweep or whatever is pure coincidence, you probably would have gone into labour then anyway. I had 4 with both of my kids and they did nothing.

Mine was born at 42+1 labour started naturally day before.

peboh · 21/01/2022 11:55

36+4, my waters broke at 36+2.

Hi, Hun

I would try walking as its what got my contractions started. And l was 40+3 .

Good luck. All worth it in the end.

mummyh2016 · 21/01/2022 12:34

38 weeks however everyone else I know went overdue with their first.
Regarding sweeps I had 2 in my first pregnancy, my waters went with no contractions so I had one then, then another one 8 hours later when I was in labour but no further dilated. Both killed me and I look back and say they were worse than the labour (and DD was back to back!).
I had one Monday this week though at 38 weeks to find out I was already 3cm, she could feel the head and waters were bulging. This one didn't hurt at all and I can only think it's because my body was ready? DS arrived Tuesday morning so it either worked or I was going into labour anyway.

Tiredmum31111 · 21/01/2022 12:41

Not overdue here 39w. No signs before just went to bed and started with contractions about 22.30 and she was born 18.30 the next day (was knackered ha)

VerveClique · 21/01/2022 12:46

40+14, 2 failed sweeps, pessary, waters broken artificially, more successful sweep, then syntocin. She did not want to come out!!

Iwonderwhatsnext · 21/01/2022 12:49

37Weeks. ❤️
I had polyhydramnios and my bump was so full of water I think that’s what made me go early. Big pop!

Pinkflamingofly · 21/01/2022 12:51

My first was 37+3

NatMoz · 21/01/2022 12:52

I was 40+0.

The day before I spent 2 hours walking around the supermarket and put our Christmas tree up- just walk loads

GiltEdges · 21/01/2022 12:56

I don't necessarily agree with this. Perhaps if your body is just plain not ready they won't work, but I was 41+2 when DS was eventually born and at my 41 week sweep I had no signs of labour whatsoever, but by the time I got home (approx half an hour drive) from the sweep I'd lost my mucus plug and my contractions started, so it definitely did something to get things moving.

passionfruitpizza · 21/01/2022 12:57

42 weeks, my second was nearly 43 though so the first baby is late thing wasn't true for me.

Wannabegreenfingers · 21/01/2022 13:00

35 weeks. Trust me it's best to keep them cooking Smile

bombombo · 21/01/2022 13:00

40+12 Shock😂 I'd been having "signs" for weeks beforehand and was in early labour for 3 days before it properly got going!

Muchtoomuchtodo · 21/01/2022 13:01

42 +5. Induced in the end.

FelicityPike · 21/01/2022 13:03

31+2

Isonthecase · 21/01/2022 13:08

Not everyone wants someone rummaging around their cervix, usually in front of a trainee midwife. And I do mean rummaging.

My first was 3 days late but it was a several day long labour.

stopringingme · 21/01/2022 13:09

35+1

Thisismyusername1 · 21/01/2022 13:13

My first was 38+2 and my second was 38+5

jennyt82 · 21/01/2022 13:19

My first was 41+6, he arrived the day before I was going to be induced

ChloeHel · 21/01/2022 14:09

40 :)
