Regarding colostrum harvesting, ask your midwife for syringes. They should have plenty of 1 or 2ml syringes. Certainly cheaper than buying them off the internet. I'm not bothering colostrum harvesting. I didn't produce anything until after I'd given birth, and thus far it seems I'm heading the same way. DD was sleepy as she had mild jaundice when born. A few hours stripped to her nappy in her basket by a sunny window helped put her right.

I never knew epidurals could cause sleepiness. I thought the drugs stayed in the spine, so couldn't cross the placenta. The more you learn.

Anxiety is starting to crank up. My midwife appointment today didn't quite go well. Baby was fine, and BP was ok. But my urine had + protein. Sad Up from trace 3 weeks ago. Getting worried this is the start of pre-eclampsia again, even if BP doesn't show it. Bloods and urine sent off as a result. Should get my results tomorrow and I guess we go from there.

Thanks @Dyra, we are having a boy 😀 I've honestly had such a good pregnancy no sickness or anything like that but I've had SPD since roughly 30 weeks and my god it's painful especially during the night trying to turn over. It's quite a long thread to get through so sorry if you've repeated yourself constantly but when are you due and how have you been 😊

bubblepond · 17/02/2022 21:49

@Nettletea0

Anyone else getting loads of braxton hicks??

I'm due in 2 weeks and they're driving me nuts now as uncomfortable. They started early in second trimester, never had them in previous pregnancies 🙄 I always go over by 10 or so days so the idea of this for 4 more weeks is 😱😡

Mine are very frequent especially in the evenings and I'm only 33+5! They're uncomfortable but not painful, and make me need a wee!
MiracleBaby2022 · 18/02/2022 06:05

@BostonFern good to know - thank you! I'll ask my midwife next time I see her if I can get some, sounds like a more sensible and cheaper option than spending yet more money online!

MiracleBaby2022 · 18/02/2022 06:06

@Dyra was meant to add you to the last reply! Thank you - will definitely ask my midwife when I see her in 2 weeks.

Sorry to hear about your blood test, what happens next then if it turns out to be pre eclampsia?

BostonFern · 18/02/2022 07:12

@Dyra sorry to hear your midwife appointment didn’t go well. 🤞 for your test results.

I don’t think it was the epidural that directly caused my son to be sleepy, there were interventions (which are more likely with an epidural) and the way this baby is currently positioned means it could be likely again.

In positive news, I only had to get up three times to go to the bathroom last night - a real luxury and I feel like a new woman for a little more sleep 😂

Dyra · 18/02/2022 07:58

@MiracleBaby2022 @BostonFern Thanks. I guess if something is picked up in the bloods, I assume they'll do what they did last time, and call me up to the hospital to run all the tests again. Not sure what would happen after that. BP isn't high (checked this morning), which is what any medication given would be fixing. I'm definitely not keen to be admitted to hospital.

Do any of you have any experience of transverse babies at all? Just curious because I have pelvic abnormalities the baby's been transverse almost the entire pregnancy and if my 36 week scan (which is in two weeks) shows she still is I'm worried I'll be admitted at week 37 and if nothing happens naturally my induction is not due til week 40. Don't really fancy a massively long hospital stay...

Dyra · 18/02/2022 12:28

Only through work. If still transverse at 36/37 weeks you can try for an ECV, but you'd be looking at a 38/39 week elective section otherwise. No way would they even consider induction with baby transverse.

MiracleBaby2022 · 18/02/2022 14:23

@Dyra thanks Dyra, yes sorry I didn't mean they'd do an induction if still transverse. I've been asked to go to triage and ask to see a consultant straight away if the scan shows transverse on the 4th March - so I'm guessing they'll take the decision there and then on what to do. I hope she turns but I don't feel too hopeful as she clearly favours this position.

Catconfusion · 18/02/2022 15:00

@MiracleBaby2022 my son was traverse until 37 weeks. He went head down but I booked a c section anyway as I have arthritis in my hips and was worried about the labour. On the day of my section he flipped breach again at 39 weeks and was born bum first.

I doubt they’ll admit you just because the baby is transverse. Most likely they’ll book a c section if they can’t turn the baby and send you home to wait for it. Obviously if your waters break and baby is still transverse they’ll do a section. Try not to worry though. I loved my c section. It was a quick recovery too. Even if it comes to a section, chances are it’ll be fine. An elective is quite chilled. You never know, she might turn by then though. Xx

Im 34 weeks and currently baby is transverse as well. She was breech at the last scan so she’s heading in the right direction. Not that it massively matters as I’m having a section anyway. Xx

MiracleBaby2022 · 18/02/2022 16:01

Thanks @Catconfusion - from everything I've read about it, it seems they automatically admit from week 37 due to the risk of cord prolapse when your waters go. My midwife told me yesterday that if that my waters go anytime now that she's transverse I have to get down on my knees, put my bum in the air and head low and call 999. Apparently they then have to try and get me out from my flat (I'm on the 2 and 3rd floor of a Victorian building with a typical steep and narrow staircase), down the stairs on a stretcher and on to hospital. It's the risks of prolapse that is the reason they admit you, but with the added difficulties of where I live as well - I'm guessing they'll say the risks are too high. I obviously would prefer not to be admitted, but I really don't like the sound of a prolapsed cord! I don't have much faith that she'll turn either, she turned head down once when I went swimming but she never stays long, my pelvis is too wonky - I spent a decade in physio trying to straighten it. I'll try all the usual turning techniques in the coming two weeks, just have to hope for the best.

MiracleBaby2022 · 18/02/2022 16:03

@Catconfusion forgot to say about your c section, how did you find looking after the baby afterwards? Bit worried about that aspect of it... x

Dyra · 18/02/2022 16:56

They admit from 37 weeks with transverse at my trust for the same reason. FX baby gets the message and gets into position (and stays there!) before your scan.

Results came back from bloods. Liver enzymes are raised, so it's likely pre-eclampsia again. Not formally diagnosed yet, as BP was still normal. Showing some signs of creeping up again though. Got a blood test scheduled for next week and will have a liver ultrasound at some point. Very regularly monitoring BP now. Feeling pessimistic about it all now though. I really wanted to go naturally this time, but with the bloods, I just can't see it happening. Sad

@Dyra good to know, thank you!

Does pre eclampsia mean you'll have to have a c section as well?

Mon2468 · 18/02/2022 17:21

@MiracleBaby2022 hi, I've got too much fluid in the sac and been told the same if waters break 😳

Dyra · 18/02/2022 17:34

@MiracleBaby2022 Not necessarily. So long as baby and I remain ok, they'll wait until term, then induce. That's what happened with DD anyway. Should there be any deterioration in either of us before 37 weeks, then it'll be an emergency C-section.

Just going to take it one day/blood pressure reading at a time for now.

MiracleBaby2022 · 18/02/2022 18:11

@Mon2468 oh no! It's a bit scary isn't it...

MiracleBaby2022 · 18/02/2022 18:11

@Dyra fingers crossed for you! 🤞🏼

Mon2468 · 18/02/2022 18:12

@MiracleBaby2022 yeah and I had midwife yesterday and he's not engaged yet so that makes me weary

MiracleBaby2022 · 18/02/2022 19:05

@Mon2468 some babies drop down very late as far as I understand it, but I totally get your concern. What position is he in now though?

Mon2468 · 18/02/2022 19:08

@MiracleBaby2022 I'm just hoping he drops b4 water breaks but my next midwife appt is 2 days after due date 🙈 he's head down though which is good, have a scan next Friday so hoping they could maybe tell me more. How has your pregnancy been?

BostonFern · 18/02/2022 19:30

@Dyra sorry to hear your LFTs came back raised. Got my fingers crossed for you that your blood pressure stays under control.

Those of us who are expecting second/third babies, how are you trying to unwind with a toddler? Conscious I need to relax and get the oxytocin flowing if I want labour to start spontaneously, but with a two year old whirlwind I’m finding it difficult!

Cxjai792 · 18/02/2022 20:27

@BostonFern My daughter is 3 and from the minute she opens her eyes she’s bouncing off the walls. Love her to pieces but my god this pregnancy has been tough😂I just wait till she goes to bed or nursery and lay there like a dough ball with limbs. Or if you have anyone that could watch your little one for a few hours it really helps too. Managed to get a cuddle and fell asleep together watching 101 Dalmatians earlier which was lovely she’s not an overly cuddly child so moments like that always out weigh how shitty I feel!

Dyra · 18/02/2022 20:41

I do exactly the same as @Cxjai792. Grit my teeth and try to get on with everything, then collapse and die for a while when she's in bed or at nursery. Poor girl is getting raised by the TV even so atm.
