Quite like Anne-Gisèle, as in Anne-Gisèle Glass.

robinredbreast · 21/12/2007 20:47

well what is the most english name you can think of ? elizabeth?

ah ok German, so we talking Giselle as a variant of Gisela. This sounds very different because it's pronounced with "g" as in golf so "Geesela"

SSStollenzeit · 21/12/2007 20:50

Actually it is not very common in Germany either really, have only ever met 2 women with that name. So if you're looking for a less common name, should be the ticket

wheresthehamster · 21/12/2007 20:50

I am Giselle.

No I am Giselle.

And I'm Dick Darlington.

(A Coupling farce that was quite funny )

Anna8888 · 21/12/2007 20:52

SSStollenzeit - I think I class Gisela with Güdrun and Dagmar as those über German girl names...

JackieNoel · 21/12/2007 20:52

Makes me think of the ballet .

Zazette · 21/12/2007 20:53

I wouldn't personally want to name my child after a Disney Princess.

JackieNoel · 21/12/2007 20:53

This ballet. Rather sad connotations.

robinredbreast · 21/12/2007 20:54

mmm i would hate it to be shortend to gis though yukkk
good point hatrick
also elle part does rhyme with smell and you know what kids are like!

mmmm choosing a name, very big responsibilty

Kind of.

SantaGotStuckUpTheGreensleeve · 21/12/2007 20:57

I suppose you would have to be careful it didn't get shortened to Jizz by unfunny teenagers

SSStollenzeit · 21/12/2007 20:57

Nowadays it's more Charleen and Joelle and things like that Anna. Or more posher sounding ones will be Cosma and Felicia. Don't hear many little girls (in fact personally I've never heard one) called Dagmar or Petra these days.

SSStollenzeit · 21/12/2007 20:58

Are we getting anywhere on this robin? Have you any other names in mind, we could chew over and compare?

pinetreedog · 21/12/2007 20:59

gazelle
ballet
Switzerland (not sure why)

SantaGotStuckUpTheGreensleeve · 21/12/2007 21:00

My sister is called Petra

robinredbreast · 21/12/2007 21:00

yes the jizz thing would be horrible, that kinda putting me off.
and you know what kids are like for rhyming names
oh whats thats smell,oh its giselle!
i never knew there was a disney princess called that. impressed with your knowledge

I think the film's only just out, though, and she's not technically a disney princess.

turquoise · 21/12/2007 21:02

I like it. Like Gigi for short.

Isn't the new Disney princess from Enchanted called Giselle? God I only saw it on sunday and have forgotten already.

SSStollenzeit · 21/12/2007 21:04

I wouldn't like it shortened but Giselle is a pretty name.

PaulaYatesbiggestfan · 21/12/2007 21:05

knew one at universty who coloured it a bit for me...

Gudrun soooo Women in Love at alan bates

Izzybel · 21/12/2007 21:05

I'm with worszel, it reminds me of an antelope too. I suppose it also reminds me of the model Giselle and she's quite pretty.

MariNativityPlay · 21/12/2007 21:06

Like it but it has never been on a shortlist IYSWIM, mainly because it wouldn't sit well with our family name
Giselle is the anglicised version by the way - it is spelt with one "l" in French

robinredbreast · 21/12/2007 21:07

maybe there will be loads of giselle's after this disney movie comes out

im going off this name more and more
