I agree with @jadey1991 in that you just need to make the most of this time. I'm the worst for feeling guilty about not doing enough or sitting around when there's stuff that needs doing, but sometimes (like today when Dexter has wanted nothing but for me to hold or feed him) you just have to give into it. This is my third baby and in my experience this stage goes so fast. Before you know it baby will be bigger and not need you as much and you'll long for the days you were allowed to snuggle on the sofa with him and avoid the housework. My advice is just to make the most of it, the housework will still be there when you're feeling more up to it!

Curlymam88 · 04/01/2022 17:21

Yes, I was going to say. These days will go by so fast. Forget the housework and enjoy your little one. When people say they're not little for long, I've found its true!!

LouLou0505 · 04/01/2022 17:44

Thank you! It feels so silly even saying these things but I'm such a busy person it's hard for me to just stop. I feel like I'm forgetting I've just had surgery 😔

I can already see how quick it goes! Can't believe I've been a mum for over 2 weeks already 😂

jadey1991 · 04/01/2022 20:16

Aww bless you @LouLou0505 yes it goes sooo fast. Josiah is 3 weeks tomorrow and already u see changes. He is my third child.
Hope everyone is doing ok and enjoying your time with babies.
@Theawkwardblonde how is it doing for you

Morning everyone 😊
@LouLou I'm the same....and normally find me hoovering etc on day 4 back from hospital lol I like things to be in place and be organised and when they are not then my heads in a spin! I've had to let things go a bit what with 5 children it doesn't stay tidy or organised long anymore lol I now do it mostly in the evening ready for the next day.....just enjoy the next few weeks doing the minimal and get into a routine that works well all round x
@jadey1991 how's josiah doing now?
How's everyones babies getting on?
Oscar has fitted in as lovely as we had hoped, our other children love him and want to help by holding him etc His routine is a bit hit and miss atm and he's become a bit of a cling on especially in the night after feeds....he stays asleep on my chest but as soon as I try to lay him next to me in moses basket it's full on screams and he's back on my chest asleep again! 😅 It's a bit of a struggle with very little sleep myself and 4 other children to function around but obviously I know its temporary and so still enjoying the newborn snuggles 💙

jadey1991 · 05/01/2022 19:02

@lovebeingmum9 he is doing ok thanks. I'm still trying to get him into a routine as he is like a vampire. Always awake at night and sleeps during the day. He certainly doesn't like sleeping in his Moses basket and is kinda unsettled when laying in bed with me. He loves sleeping on mine and OH chest. How is Oscar doing

Here's hoping @Theawkwardblonde silence means she's in labour or had her little one!

I'm totally with you all with the cleaning... my husband is not thorough enough for me so I've been cleaning around the place in the days since getting home from hospital despite being knackered. I can't handle visitors coming with the place not in a reasonable state 😅

Hope Josiah is doing better @jadey1991! Poor soul

lovebeingmum9 · 05/01/2022 20:18

@jadey1991 sounds like Oscar and Josiah are very simular with routines at the moment,he's most unsettled in the evening but sleeps mostly throughout the day! He's drinking in-between 70ml-100ml (2/3 ounces) every 2/3 hours which I'm happy with and think is normal for his age. It's a bit hectic getting used to school runs and timing his bottle around it but it's all good! How are you aswell, hope your resting and taking care of you when you can?X

2020mission · 05/01/2022 20:36

Matthew is only just over a week old but following the same pattern and sleeping well during the day but awake most of the night 😅 I'm expressing some breast milk and feeding him about 50-60ml a few times a day with that but the rest of the time I'm putting him on the breast. I'm worried he doesn't drink enough directly on the breast though as his sucks are really quite weak and has a lot of rest gaps. I think it's because he's got used to the bottle as I was expressing and giving formula and not as much breast in the first week. Are you all breastfeeding or using formula? I still have plenty of cow and gate ready to feed bottles incase he needs more than I'm able to give. He had quite a lot of them in hospital. The hospital just scared me when they said he had lost 11% of his weight after 3 days and told me to combination feed and express to check how much he's getting.

jadey1991 · 06/01/2022 00:09

@2020mission yes Josiah is doing much better thanks. I'm glad I knew what it was. The medicine is working☺️☺️

lovebeingmum9 · 06/01/2022 10:38

@2020mission I'm bottle feeding on sma formula.I suppose that's been the best benefit for me of bottle feeding as I can see how much baby has had and log down feeds in the first few weeks......but baby seems very hungry all the time I'm thinking about putting him on hungrier formula maybe just for night time as atm he's up drinking constantly it feels! After he's had one good feed its like he's stirring ready for the next within the hour or 2! How are you finding breast feeding? I take my hat off to breastfeeding mums there's lots more to it than I originally thought x

burtle4 · 06/01/2022 13:11

@jadey1991 glad to hear Josiah is doing better. Was it silent reflux in the end did you say? I'm a bit concerned that Dexter has the same thing. He's always choking on milk that doesn't come fully up, or coughing and arching his back and these past couple of days he's become really unsettled and crying a lot. Last night was our worst night yet in which he just seemed in pain constantly and couldn't sleep. I'm really hoping it's not colic, and I don't know how to find out if it's silent reflux. Last night he was just on the boob constantly, but not because he's hungry, just for comfort so I'm exhausted today, don't know how I managed to get my DD to school on time! Really hoping it was just a bad night but I'm not so sure...

xTinkerbell · 06/01/2022 14:22

@2020mission I’m breastfeeding. Aria lost 10.1% of her birthweight and I was told to top up with expressed milk or formula. I did for a while but she stopped taking it and it now over birthweight so I’m going with just breast at the moment.

Curlymam88 · 06/01/2022 14:28

Hi everyone. My little one has reflux now. Past couple of days shes been sick after her feeds. Not just a little but alot, all out of her nose aswell bless her. Can hear it all gurgling on her chest and she seems so uncomfortable trying to sleep after her feed. I bought sma milk today for her but the one especially for reflux so see how that goes for her. Its thicker than the normal milk which is supposed to help them. My health visitor suggested carobel by cow and gate which is a milk thickener. I bought and tried that but I find its really horrible stuff so went for the special milk instead. Its horrible seeing them unsettled like this, I feel like I'm getting anxiety over her being ill and that its something more serious. Probably because I dont want her to end up in special baby unit again. I've just become quite anxious last 2 days 😔

burtle4 · 06/01/2022 16:04

@Curlymam88 sorry to hear she's suffering from reflux. It's horrible when they're not happy and you don't know how to help them properly, it's so easy to make yourself believe there's something really wrong. I know I always worry when he's behaving differently or crying more than he usually does. I'm always wondering whether it's normal and I'm a third time mum! It sounds like you're doing the right thing by changing her formula though, hope it will help x

tashx · 06/01/2022 17:08

Hope everyone ok
Mummy's and babies

Hands up if your baby still screams all night
Unless they are in bed with you 🙌

Shattered now schools back x

Curlymam88 · 06/01/2022 17:23

Thanks @burtle4 for the reassurance. Last night and this morning she slept for 5 hours before waking for a feed usually shes up every 3 hours. Does anyone know if this thicker reflux milk fills them up more? I'm guessing maybe it does as its thicker? Think I need to make a list of things I need to ask the health visitor. The worry never ends!!

JW2021 · 06/01/2022 18:15

How’s theawkwardblonde getting on anyone know? - surely baby has arrived by now 🤷🏼
Sorry I apologize if I’ve missed some of the last posts

burtle4 · 06/01/2022 18:27

@Curlymam88 wow, 5 hours!! I dream of that day 😂 I think formula fed babies tend to sleep longer and the thicker formula fills them up more.
@tashx 🙋‍♀️ I'm with you, had the worst night last night and ended up with him in bed with me pretty much all night! Really not the way I want it to go but whatever I can do to get sleep at the moment. He never sleeps longer than 2 hours at a time and it's exhausting, he's pretty much up every hour during the night 😫

Hi all
sounds like we are all in the same boat! 😅
also shattered and yet trying to look some sort of presentable for the school run! lol What's everyone doing with regards to visitor's regarding covid, would love my sis and nieces to come meet oscar but they live in an area with high covid cases, she mixes with lots of people with her work,no mask etc and not vaccinated.....I've said maybe we will wait a couple more weeks to get Oscars immune system higher but it's all quite worrying x

Curlymam88 · 06/01/2022 21:21

@burtle4 I know I shouldn't be complaining!! Shes pretty good at the moment and will sleep in her next2me. Touch wood that doesn't change!

burtle4 · 06/01/2022 21:54

You're living the dream @Curlymam88 😂
@lovebeingmum9 haha, I'm the same. I probably scared a few mums on the school run this morning, looked like the walking dead! I've come to the conclusion that we're not going to be able to avoid covid for much longer. My son was sitting next to a girl all day on Tuesday who tested positive that night, he'd also forgotten to take his mask into school so how he's tested negative so far I don't know! I think our time will come soon and I've just got to hope that my vaccine will have passed on something to Dexter in ways of protection. Apparently babies are a bit like kids in that they generally don't suffer too badly with it, but who knows? 🤷‍♀️ We've been seeing people and have let a few close friends/family hold him.

jadey1991 · 06/01/2022 22:22

@burtle4 he is doing a lot better thanks. Today he has slept with a little bit of tossing and arching his back. I think it is acid reflux he has coz the medicine is working.
Oh no. I'm breastfeeding myself and noticed Josiah belly was swollen and had discolouration to his stomach. When I hospital the antibiotics helped and then I did research on acid reflux. Brought it to the doctors attention. They said colic isn't that common in breast fed babies. Maybe you should speak with your midwife or health visitor and express your concern unless dexter shows other signs like I stated above
