Just a glass of wine with Christmas dinner, although last Christmas I was having a bit of a detox before trying for a baby and didn't have a drink then either!

I'm missing brie cheese at the moment too. Can't wait to have a bit of brie on a cracker
Smile

Read 'Expecting better' by Emily Oster. It'll honestly change your perspective.

I had tirimisu the other night with no concerns.

because the trifle doesn't have sherry in it?

or is it the coffee in the tiramisu that is bothering you?

I would have happily eaten either in pregnancy by the way!

carboverload · 13/12/2021 23:31

I wouldn't say no to some Tiramisu or a glass of wine or two even

Nell7 · 13/12/2021 23:51

Why can't you have tiramisu? 😢

SisterA · 13/12/2021 23:52

Just the pate on the cheese board but I'll get over it!

CucumberCool · 14/12/2021 01:46

@pastabest I didn't think about the sherry in trifle...I'm making myself so can leave out.
I could make tiramisu with decaf but it's not the same without the alcohol!

@YourVagesty Hmm I've heard the name... Maybe I will....thanks Grin

I'm ftm and genuinely feel a bit guilty when doing the things I "shouldn't" in pregnancy. I have have two glasses of wine (at different times) and some baked (until completely liquid) camembert in the time I've been pregnant...

Anyway I mean this thread to be light-hearted.. I mean if I wasn't pregnant I'd probably be tipsy all day!

OP, I'm with you: FTM and doing everything by the books. No caffeine (at all!) no alcohol, nothing that the NHS website doesn't recommend. I think sometimes people don't realise how anxious some people can be about making sure their baby is okay. I know in reality a little coffee is okay... but am I willing to risk it? Over a little bit of coffee? Absolutely not! For me, the "reward" isn't worth the risk :) I think sometimes mums who are probably a lot wiser and have a lot more experience than us sometimes forget (or probably never experienced) this kind of anxiety :)

Anyway, to answer your question: cheese! I just want brieeee. And hot coffee on Christmas morning. And cinnamon rolls (I read somewhere that too much cinnamon can cause problems... not sure if it's true but anxious baby brain tells me not to have it so no cinnamon rolls for me on Christmas morning!) Baby is due any second now so a lot of Christmas food hangs in the balance!

unicornpower · 14/12/2021 03:46

Not pregnant but baby is 13 weeks old and has CMPA which causes her reflux so I have cut out a lot of food still! No Boursin or pate for me which is very sad Grin even things like cheeselets I’m not risking!

Although my DH is taking one for the team and is feeding her from the bottle using frozen milk we have so I can have some drinks as I haven’t for the past year! Yippeeeeee!

Chasingaftermidnight · 14/12/2021 04:46

Well I’m going to have tiramisu. But I’m going to miss pate so much. And champagne. And Brie. And rare beef.

Missnicolinda96 · 14/12/2021 07:22

I'm comfortable with having certain things, like a tiramisu or mince pie with small amounts of alcohol in, but damn it's going to be hard to miss out on the wine, baileys, brie, camembert!

Topbird29 · 14/12/2021 07:56

If you are worried about brie - hiw about I toasties? Or baked casement or brie? Know its not the same, but most tiramasu from supermarkets are non alcohol, don't use egg white, and use little coffee - think mostly the essence.

Topbird29 · 14/12/2021 07:57

Not casement...camembert!!

L1ttleb1t · 14/12/2021 08:08

Oh lots of things!

Mulled apple and brandy
Brie and camembert (though I've found a baked cheese thing in Sainsbury's that has neither in - yumm!)
Bailey's
Boozy puddings
Cold cured meats like chorizo
Bucks fizz

Sigh.... I'm due in January and the first thing I plan to eat after getting home is a brie toastie! And yes I know I can have one now if it's steaming hot, but who wants evaporated brie?

Seriously? The amount of coffee and alcohol in a Tiramisu is really not going to be an issue. Enjoy your (small portion) of Tiramisu!
YourVagesty · 14/12/2021 08:20

Sorry if I sounded abrupt OP - not aimed at you at all. It just annoys me that women and pregnancies are subjected to bad science is all. The Emily Oster book really made me relax but I wish that info was given to every woman. I fully get the anxiety and cut everything out prior to reading it!

Anyway, on a lighthearted note, sometimes, regardless of the science, our bodies just won't let us have something without throwing up. For that reason, I'll be missing a strong cup of coffee this Christmas!

Blxo94 · 14/12/2021 08:25

Our annual bottle of port on Christmas Eve 🥲 and all of the blue cheese - I only eat it at Christmas but I go hard, blue cheese on everything 😂 oh well, I’ll have to have extra next year!

Sammilouwho · 14/12/2021 09:03

Everything, I've got HG and can only stomach toast!
I miss food.

Frederica852 · 14/12/2021 09:05

Why can't you have tiramisu? I thought raw egg was fine now

JustWonderingIfYou · 14/12/2021 09:09

There's a lot of outdated advice around.

I'm eating everything except liver pate and being a bit careful at potentially dodgy buffets.

Why on earth is one of you avoiding rare beef? Perfectly safe in the UK.
Nothing to worry about with egg whites either, if they are lion stamped you can eat the whole thing raw.

Salad is potentially more dangerous than brie, no one tells us to stop eating that.

GinnyBee · 14/12/2021 09:43

The drinks! I will be having one small glass of nice champers, and gaze longingly at the Sherry, wine, port, Baileys...! I was also feeling sad about the cheese board but then I realised we're allowed Stilton! And for the others I will get hard cheeses and non-rind soft cheeses, so all pregnancy safe without having to sacrifice deliciousness :)

I don't understand what's wrong with tiramisu? NHS official advice is to stick to 200mg of caffeine per day, no tiramisu anywhere will have that much coffee in it! And the amount of alcohol is negligible. Orange juice probably has almost as much!

I can sympathise with the desire to do everything right and pregnancy is an anxious time, but I would think following the actual official guidelines in this country would be a good place to start :) a lot of the stuff online is often from US based websites and they have different recommendations because they have different food safety standards!

Jenhen89 · 14/12/2021 09:53

I made tiramisu over the weekend (no eggs but still coffee and Marsala wine) and I have eaten a few portions without even thinking about it... this thread has made me concerned now! 38+2 currently.
Also why can’t you have Boursin? As long as cheese is pasteurised then there shouldn’t be a risk of listeria. Also Brie and Camembert can be eaten as long as it’s cooked.

Steamedhams · 14/12/2021 10:02

I have been really naughty and eaten sushi. As long as you trust the retailer which I did, it's fine. I am sure the ladies in Japan still eat it. I have had nearly everything from the forbidden list except alcohol, pate and shark. Like PP said, more risk from unwashed salad. Have the tiramisu and try not to worry.
