Will miss a snowball this year though!

GinnyBee · 14/12/2021 10:04

@Steamedhams Yes, if you told the Japanese to freeze their fish first they would be horrified! They are very much encouraged to keep having raw fish as it's seen as super healthy. Freshness is key though.

WheelieBinPrincess · 14/12/2021 10:10

Apart from maybe pate I wouldn’t be missing any Christmas food at all, because if I fancied it I’d eat it.

You really don’t have to go making a big song and dance about not being able to have most things.

Moancup · 14/12/2021 10:23

Champagne
White wine
Red wine
Pudding wine
Whisky
Gin
Negronis
Bourbon
Beer
Mulled wine
Mulled cider

I just miss alcohol! Can't wait for a glass of wine after this one is born.

Genuinely confused by the poster who said they can't wait for a Brie toastie. I thought cooked Brie was fine in pregnancy? I've had it heated. Plus would definitely not avoid tiramisu.

Pamparam · 14/12/2021 11:02

I’m not cutting out anything really (except anything more than one thimble of red wine). I even had some thinly spread pate on one piece of toast the other day! I have actually heard of someone catching listeria from eating unpasteurised cheese in Brazil but that’s very very different to Camembert from Tesco! When it comes to risk vs reward, I’ll take the absolutely minuscule risk over the deliciousness any day. But everything in moderation obviously.

To the PP who mentioned blue cheese. You can eat Stilton. Top of the allowed dairy on the nhs website.

fidget223 · 14/12/2021 11:19

Im missing cold cured meats and soft cheese! And wine.... I miss wine SO much.

bollocksthemess · 14/12/2021 11:26

I’ve gone fully militant and cut everything out including caffeine. I know you don’t have to, but I’m better with absolutes rather than moderation.
The only thing I’ve desperately missed all the way through is Brussels pate on white toast. I’ve never given wine a thought, which is odd as I really liked a drink before I got pregnant.

Bells3032 · 14/12/2021 11:30

Chocolate!!! I have GD so no junk for me! :'-(

JuneySunshine · 14/12/2021 11:37

A little glass of red wine.
Yesterday, I bought a brie and cranberry sandwich from M&S (love, love, love) and then remembered I wasn't suppose to eat brie and gave it to my partner Sad

I know it might be overly cautious etc etc but once I remember the NHS advice it puts me right off.

RosieLemonade · 14/12/2021 11:43

Pate and all the alcohol!

winterbabyrose · 14/12/2021 11:43

Cured meats, like prosciutto and chorizo!
Camembert
Wine

Definitely going to miss Baileys this year too, as that's my go to 'Christmas drink'

Cooked Brie is fine. But it's a bit borderline whether a toastie or would heat the cheese enough for sufficient time to kill any bacteria, as it's more 'melting' for a couple of minutes than 'cooking'. Baked Camembert - for example - is fine as it's in the oven at a high enough temp for long enough to not be an issue.

@Sammilouwho

Everything, I've got HG and can only stomach toast! I miss food.
Aww I sympathise as I've been there (twice). On the plus side, you will appreciate food in a whole new light once you're better. It took literally a few minutes for the nausea to go and for my tastebuds to work as normal once the placenta was out. That post-birth tea and toast could've been a Michelin-starred chef's meal to me!
Luckygreenduck · 14/12/2021 11:56

Brie, cured meats, pate and alcohol!
I logically think all would be fine in moderation but dont think I could enjoy them. I have relaxed a bit on caffeine, I started with having none but now I am having a tea or coffee a day if I fancy one.
I have been really sick so I just hope I can enjoy some food! I am planning to buy some non alcoholic mulled 'wine' tea and some nosecco. I had some nosecco at a wedding recently and it was lovely.

MissingGrandstand · 14/12/2021 12:54

@GinnyBee seconded, all of the drinks! I know a glass of bucks fizz will be fine but I don't want the glass, I want the bottle Blush

Champagne with breakfast, pub at midday, wine with dinner... have just been asked by my dad "why on earth is there a bottle of Shloer in the wine rack" - because that's me trying to feel like I have wine too!

Realise this makes me look like I have a problem Grin which I don't! Just nearing the end and starting to salivate over the bottle of Costco Margarita that is currently sat in the fridge

StickyStickyStickStickSong · 14/12/2021 13:02

I was pregnant last year and I missed my patè but I'm making up for it this year 😈

lawandgin · 14/12/2021 13:23

Wine!

You can have cured meats if cooked, or frozen and defrosted...

BlairWaldorfLovesShopping · 14/12/2021 14:13

Nothing Grin I’m due on Christmas Day and I’ll be making sure I’ve got drinks, pate, Brie, etc available for as soon as baby is out. I’ll be having a glass of fizz on the 25th either way anyway!

Rachae · 14/12/2021 17:12

I totally thought you could eat anything like brie etc... as long as it is thoroughly cooked? x
