Maternity clothes - under the bump fittings

Do they really stay up? I've bought a pair of jeans and a pair of cords, both under the bump with elasticated front panel, then normal waistband at the back. They're both a good fit except for the fact that every few paces I have to hitch them up on the waist. Any suggestions? Are maternity belts with the stretchy side panels (like this ) worth buying? TIA

i dont know about the belt.

i get those trousers under the bump with the two stretchy panels in the pockets, iyswim? they stay up well.

stockingfiller · 16/12/2007 21:08

i had same prob you just get used to it, my friend had over bump and they rolled down its a no win thing sorry!

Sidge · 16/12/2007 21:10

I hated under the bump maternity jeans and trousers.

I spent the whole time hitching them up, and when I bent over/got down on the floor my backside fell out as they pulled down.

I much preferred the ones that have the soft jersey panel over the bump like these. Far comfier and as I was never a "bump on show" sort of person it didn't matter that my bump was covered.

Awenamanger · 16/12/2007 21:35

They fall down. Bought a bump band to hold them up.

tassisssss · 16/12/2007 21:36

i hate them

not only do you spend the entire time hitching them up but you get cld round the middle! and they're not that comfy when you sit down.

i go for the frumpier over the bump stretch panel sort. Lovely!

mylittleponey · 16/12/2007 21:39

over the bump stays put & doesn't show off stretchmarks

missnatalie · 16/12/2007 21:42

I love my under the bump jeans. I got mine from Next and there fab. I do have a few pairs of over the bump but they keep falling down. I tend to wear them ones around the house and keep the others for best.

millie1 · 16/12/2007 21:46

They've got to stay up cos I splurged and they're both good shapes otherwise ... feel like I've a real saggy bum when they slip! Awenamanger ... did the bump band work? If it did, it's worth a shot!

Last time I was pregnant (feels like a lifetime ago) all my trousers were over the bump and they were cosy. Oh well, I've got the under style now and just need to find a solution ... braces??!!

My GAP under the bump jeans always fall down... I feel like I need braces with them! Bump band hasn't worked for me I'm afraid, hope you have more luck!!

Awenamanger · 16/12/2007 22:04

Millie - did with one pair of under the bump but not with my other pair. I use it with me over the bump jeans too.

When not preg I have prob with jeans staying up, I have a distinct lack of hips or bottom.

nosnikrap · 16/12/2007 22:37

I just bought under bump joggers from Blooming Marvellous and they are just that, you can tighten the draw string and they are soooo comfy, and they are in the sale at 14.99 now grrr I paid 19.99 page

nosnikrap · 16/12/2007 22:39

oh also H&M over bump jeans are cheap nice fit but prob get a size bigger than usual as they are quite snug.

gigglewitchyouamerrychristmas · 16/12/2007 22:49

i have figured it out, i think. it all depends on the size/shape of your bump. in pg 1&2 i had to wear stuff over my bump as everything else was not comfy or fell down, bump like a football and nothing anywhere else (for what it's worth, both boys)
in last pg with dd i was a different shape, not as 'football-like' and even got a yummy bum.(unfortunately i had to give it back when baby arrived) under the bump gear was fab, i lived in Next's u-t-b jeans - and mysteriously enough i felt like i was being strangled if i wore my previous over bump stuff.
suss that one out if you can
what do you think of my theory, then?

millie1 · 17/12/2007 16:12

Maybe when my bump gets bigger .... DH reckons my bum isn't big enough which I suppose is a compliment but he's wrong cos I'd reckon it's too big!!

I bought my 1st 2 pairs of maternity trousers the other day - under the bump - and I have the same probs - they keep falling down even with those little elastic/button things at their tightest! Very annoying but will persevere and see if they fit better as the bump grows!

minspugs · 17/12/2007 16:42

all my stuffs under bump and i wear a ormal belt with it so they dont fall down

andallthatjazz · 17/12/2007 16:46

Also having a nightmare with jeans staying up...dont reeeeally want to show off muffintop or bottom when I bend/sit down Have tried Top Shop jeans, under the bump, they are ok, but out of three pairs purchased in early pregnancy only one pair will stay put now, dont really fancy over the bump and dont want to spend a fortune...oh and would like to look fashionable...pleeease!!!

3madboys · 17/12/2007 17:00

yep i have this problem with some next under the bump jeans, they just fall down, they are a size ten and i am now 30wks preg and still they are too big

i have some over the bump jeans but i dont like the feel of them.

i am mainly wearing a pair of normal jeans, size ten from river island with an elastic hair bobble round the top button and then a bump band on top to cover up the fact that my zip wont do up properly they fit my bum, legs etc just right and the bump band means i dont have to worry about showing off muffin top etc

tyaca · 18/12/2007 00:14

my u-t-b dont slip down but the band soooo uncomfortable and presses right into my bladder ;-(

macaco · 18/12/2007 08:00

But i found I needed mat trousers before I was big enough to wear over the bump trousers. I'm 22 weeks and have a small bump, big enough to be too big for normal clothes but over the bump panelled trews are enormous still. Depends on the trousers. Have got u-t-b dorothy perkins jeans and they fall down all the time. I think it's just months of nothing fitting right!

imcountingufoz · 18/12/2007 12:21

I love my under the bump jeans from Gap, they stay up fine, and the panel goes all the way around the waistband. They are SOO comfy! Highly recommend them!

widgetsmummy · 18/12/2007 12:55

steal DH's belt to help with mine... do like the Blooming Marvellous under bumps though - they just seem to fit better. Mothercare ones are house only - sodding nightmare!

preggersagain · 18/12/2007 12:59

i swear by next- very generous in their sizing! i don't have a prob with utb at all!

MumOfBillyTheKid · 18/12/2007 15:30

Same as minspugs - I wear a belt with them and they're fine - belt loops should be low enough for it to go round your hips u-t-b IYSWIM.

babylove21 · 26/12/2007 21:20

I am at the inbetween stage, too big for my clothes but not the size required for mat clothes. Having said that i am living in a pair of under bump fitting Next mat jeans, my ebay bargain of 7.00 inc postage!! wohooo. trouble is when they in wash i am clothe less.
