Hello

I had a scan at 38 weeks on Thursday to see if I was going to have another big baby (DS 9lbs 7oz at birth) and really wanted to find out the sex but DH didn't. So, scanner wrote the sex and sealed in envelope for us to open/or not if we wanted to.

We decided that we would open it together Xmas Day but last night as I was sitting at home on my own (DH works evenings) curiosity got the better of me and I opened it!!

Thrilled to find out I'm having a girl.

DH came home from work and I felt that I should tell him that I had opened it otherwise I would have been hiding something from him for 10 days and we are always very open - no secrets.

He was so utterly disappointed and still is. Has spent all day in bed with a 'headache' and when he did get up he looked as though someone had died. Doesn't even want to think about the baby!

Please help me feel better about the situation!! Was I wrong to want to know?

oh fgs....of course you blardy opened it, you're not superhuman. and of course you had to tell him. and so he is sulking (sigh). he'll get over it.

congratulations!!!

Heathcliffscathy · 22/12/2007 23:20

she didn't do it to shut him out! she did it because she couldn't resist!

daisy26 · 22/12/2007 23:50

lol sophable

MerryPIFFLEmas · 22/12/2007 23:55

I would so have read it BUT I would never have let him know.

gigglewitchyouamerrychristmas · 22/12/2007 23:58

oooppppss. i reckon that idea about blaming the "impulsive" pg hormones.
he'll get over it, though maybe you will learn not to be sooooo open over everything. a girl can keep a secret for a couple of minutes,
maybe you could have had a peep, then open it 'together' (just that you have had a sneak preview???). oh dear. he'll get over it. and that idea of wrapping something baby-girly for him sounds lovely, too.
aren't m-ners fab?

I am of the school of thought that thinks

your dh = behaving like a (self-indulgent) twat

babylove21 · 23/12/2007 14:01

I know she didnt do it to shut him out, just trying to help.
Merry Christmas everyone!

MerryXMoss · 23/12/2007 14:09

Ah, you didn't mean to hurt his feelings, although I can see why he was hurt. Poor bloke, but he'll get over it. I think Janus' idea about the girly baby outfit for a Christmas prezzie is a lovely one and a great way to tell him.

margoandjerry · 23/12/2007 14:11

God almighty! Is that really the worst thing that's ever happened to him? You had a lovely coupley treat planned together and you sort of messed that up but frankly, this is a G.O.I situation. Hope you said sorry and really meant it but what's with the sulking? There is certainly one big baby in this situation.

hercules1 · 23/12/2007 14:12

I can see why he is peed off but I'd have done the same as you tbh.

ADDICTEDtosayingHAAAAAAAPYxmas · 23/12/2007 14:42

i wouldn't have told him i'd opened it or i would have said i can't wait til christmas please can we find out now. but what's done is done and you'll just have to do something really special for him. ask him if he wants to know or not.

MumtoCharlotteMay · 23/12/2007 19:12

Oh for goodness sake! Of course you looked at it, you're human! We're a curious species! Yes he might be upset, but he'll get over it and from what I've read you haven't told him the sex. I think he needs to chill out a bit. You wanted to know, why is that an issue? You haven't told him the sex, so it shouldn't be an issue.

Ok, so you wont do it together on Christmas day. But you wanted to look, bit of an over reaction on his part imo. I mean, you're the one that's gotta HAVE ther baby, can't he cut you a bit of slack on this one?!

xmasfortunecookie · 23/12/2007 19:19

Just read the OP - sorry - but the reaction I got from dh was very similar. I was sooooo happy when I found out I was pg with a girl but when I called dh on my mobile just outside the gyn/ob, bursting with happiness, he said in a really disappointed voice "oh, might have guessed" (he had 2 girls from his 1st marriage). I was crushed, in pieces, sick at heart - it was almost a Bridget Jones moment, iyswim.

Not to worry, he'll come round. Men can be absolute pr*cks sometimes
