@spttc yes it was The positive birth company one! The science bit is quite good- I was worried it would be a bit ‘hippy’ for me so the science part is crucial for me to get on board. I’m not finished - there’s about 40-45 short videos (5-10 mins sort of thing) all easy to follow but I would say start it because there’s quite a few to get through! Theres relaxation etc aswell which is good.
The other thing I’ve really enjoyed is Louise Daniels hypnobirthing podcasts - she does relaxation soundtracks for pregnancy and positive birth rehearsals, there’s one for cesarean birth aswell, I’ve found them nice to listen to on Spotify. She does online zoom sessions aswell you can join although I’ve not done any xo

Congratulations @babyyy1926

Hopefully some reassurance for those who haven't done any antenatal classes (I'm a second timer so a bit more pragmatic this time around and my experience was pretty poor). I thought they were essential when I was pregnant with DS. I no longer thought that after I had him. I'd honestly have learnt all I needed online and probably would have got more balanced information.

The content of the NCT course was very biased and in no way a realistic preparation for life as a new parent. My whole group agreed (so I wasn't just the rogue one!) DH was totally engaged then and still is a totally hands on dad but he also had nothing positive to say. This of course is very dependent on the teacher so I'm by no means dismissing anyone else's experience, just sharing mine for balance. The one plus point is if you're lucky and your group gels then you can form a really good support network which is worth its weight in gold. None of my group lived close to each other so it basically fizzled out. I think my view would be more positive had I made good friends from it but that's the gamble and it didn't pay off for us.

I like the daisy classes but more as a bit of me time with the breathing techniques etc thrown in so hopefully will be of some use in labour.

Another one late to the party here who is due end of Jan!

Congratulations @babyyy1926 and great to hear all is going well.

Just wondering if anyone has any nice plans to relax in the coming weeks? I feel like the past few weeks have been hectic so want to plan some things just for me and bump and help bond a little more.

sociallydistained · 15/12/2021 12:42

@PBfingers What do you have in mind? I’ve just been off work for over a week and although I’m not exactly glad to be back I realised I need my routine and feel better for being back 🙈 … I am off again next week though and hope to have some chill days. Other than that I have a few things to do. I am back to work after Christmas until 17th if Jan (if baby doesn’t come early of course!).

I’ve been booked in for a growth scan at 36 weeks… this is to do with my babies initial issue of having an enlarged right ventricle in the brain which was scanned again and was “normal” and then I had another follow up again normal but they booked me in again. Part of me is nervous to go because I know if babies measuring big in their view etc they suggest induction etc and I don’t want this. I’ve done my own research and unless there are complications I wish to carry on as I know growth scans can be wildly inaccurate. It’ll be good to see baby again though I bet they’re massive 🙈🙈

Scottishgal85 · 15/12/2021 13:32

Thanks for all the thoughts and suggestions about the online classes. I think I would be best to have a look at some, just so I'm not completely clueless. Once I finish work next week I should hopefully have time to dedicate to it. Smile
I also have to get my birth plan written for next week, so it will hopefully help with that.

Crazydoglady123 · 15/12/2021 22:51

Not saying antenatal classes aren't helpful but I never did any with my DS. I went into labour blind as I knew too much info would freak me out and looking after him I learnt on the job and he's 10 now

PBfingers · 16/12/2021 12:03

@sociallydistained We are starting a local antenatal class tonight and then thinking of booking a massage and a low key baby shower to help. Things like that really, oh and to read some of the baby books on the bedside table 😉

Ultimately, I think work has taken over a little in last couple of months and been v stressful so has made me feel a little overwhelmed and unprepared for baby. I think your idea of in a week, off a week at this stage, wouldn't have been a bad shout.

A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 · 16/12/2021 15:05

@sociallydistained I'm so pleased your latest scan was normal and all good. Agree with @PBfingers that your idea of a little time off on holiday is nice. It's year end for my work and so very busy, v much looking forward to a few days off over Christmas.

Hope everyone else is doing well

BobbleWobble1 · 16/12/2021 17:45

@PBfingers some time to relax sounds good. I did a lot of these sorts of things first time around. This time, I know I'm going to have very little time to myself. I have so much I still need to do and it's not easy around a toddler. I'm also planning to keep him home from nursery after new year just because of all the bugs etc so I'll have even less. Definitely take advantage of the time if you can.

@Scottishgal85 the positive birth book by Milli Hill is good for birth plans.

Had my 36 week scan yesterday. They think baby is on the smaller side but all good.

SouthwestSis · 16/12/2021 18:01

Remind us when you are due @BobbleWobble1?
I think taking toddler out of nursery the 7-10 days before your due date is a good idea, you just don't need any viruses floating around your house making the time around delivery more stressful!

Scottishgal85 · 16/12/2021 21:45

Thanks for the recommendation @BobbleWobble1, I'll take a look at it.Smile

I'm starting to get quite worried about the impact this new variant is going to have on things. I'm due 12th Jan, but will be induced before my due date and the midwife was talking about possibly doing a sweep on the 7th. I'm really hoping the rules about partners being allowed with us etc doesn't change. I hope I'm worrying unnecessarily, the rate the numbers are going up is definitely worrying!

sociallydistained · 17/12/2021 08:23

@Scottishgal85 It is a worry with the numbers isn't it. January js gonna be peak 🙄 I am planning my homebirth and just have to home the homebirth team isn't suspended to work in the hospitals. If I can stay away that will be brilliant and nothing will change for me with any luck. I have told my partner today though I think the rules will be he isn't allowed in and out if we do go to hospital so need to pack our back up hospital bag thoroughly. I am hoping to avoid hospitals at all costs 🤞🏼

Jonesy88 · 17/12/2021 19:36

Well I’ve had my booster. But it was Moderna and I was hoping for Pfizer as I’d had that before. It’s apparently still safe but it’s made me have a wobble. Tempted to book a private scan but honestly if I keep feeling movements that should be reassurance enough? I think I just need to stop overthinking.

EsseKey · 17/12/2021 20:40

@Jonesy88 just had mine (moderna) as well...I would not worry so much, and probably a scan won't tell you much more at this stage (unless you need to have it for other reasons!).
Maybe just call your midwife if you need some reassurance, before going for an extra scan?
then of course just do what feels right for you! xx

Jonesy88 · 17/12/2021 20:54

@EsseKey I don’t think I’ll do the scan, just constantly think about it until the appointments I would go to get booked up 😂. It seems so long ago I was stressing over my 2nd jab at 12 weeks pregnant.

BobbleWobble1 · 18/12/2021 22:18

@SouthwestSis I'm due 12th January and nursery goes back the week before which is why I'm considering keeping DS at home. Obviously that could be for up to 3 weeks if I went to 42 weeks. It's a hard decision as he loves it and it's good for him socially. I'll make a final decision after New Year I think as a lot can happen between now and then.

@sociallydistained home birth service is still running in my area but it does get suspended if they don't have enough cover. I honestly can't see it running in January. It's very much my back up option but I think it's going end up off the list. I've been keeping an eye on any changes to birth partners etc as childcare is a massive issue for us so I need to be really clear on what the arrangements are for DH.

spttc · 20/12/2021 12:21

Booked for my booster tomorrow. Glad to see some of you have already had it. It's so scary this whole thing. Iv literally broken down balling crying over the booster/omicron etc more times in the past week than I can count 🙈😭😂 I found it much easier to get the first 2, which makes no logical sense but here we are 🤦🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️

OP posts:
Jonesy88 · 20/12/2021 12:36

@spttc my moderna booster only gave me a sore arm in the end, and now I feel a similar sense of relief to having the initial jabs -especially with hospital visits/stays on the horizon.

SouthwestSis · 20/12/2021 13:14

Oh well done @spttc, I'm confident you've made the right choice! Had my pfizer booster and nothing more than a sore arm either. Remember it will take at least a week to build any immunity after your booster so you've got to keep being very careful with who you're mixing with, lateral flows before seeing anyone indoors etc.

spttc · 20/12/2021 14:03

Thanks @Jonesy88 & @SouthwestSis 💯 I know it's the right choice. I'd say January is going to be crazy high numbers & risk of Covid for baby is so so high 🙈 planning a very quiet Christmas. Just immediate family, all vaccinated & boosted. I'm in Ireland so all pubs, restaurants etc now have to close at 8pm so that should bring numbers down. Just gotta hope for the best. I'm getting Pfizer tomorrow. I had that for my 1st & 2nd too so at least I know I'm not allergic etc

OP posts:
Tangfastic91 · 20/12/2021 16:17

Well done @spttc just think of all those antibodies you are giving to baby so their first few weeks are safer :)

Scottishgal85 · 20/12/2021 18:17

Hey ladies, I had my booster today, Pfizer again so hopefully no side effects. I definitely think it's the right thing to do, given the spike in cases!

I had another growth scan today (I'm 36 + 5) and they are a bit concerned with how my placenta is looking, so I'm going in tomorrow to be induced 😬 It's all been so sudden that I think I'm a bit in shock, but it's definitely the right thing to get him out sooner rather than waiting to see what happens!

Nibletmum · 20/12/2021 18:29

Hi, only just found this thread - due 28th Jan with baby 3. Hope everyone is well!

Been quite a good pregnancy so far but last week the nausea came back, I keep having low blood sugars and today really sharp pelvic pain 😭 Praying she comes early!

Hoping for home birth like my 2nd was but looks like lock down is on the cards so who knows. Childcare could end up being an issue - just another thing to stress about! X

Tangfastic91 · 20/12/2021 18:50

@Scottishgal85 how exciting that you get to meet baby before Xmas. Seems like they are keeping a good eye on you and being cautious. Best of luck xx

sjxoxo · 20/12/2021 18:52

@Scottishgal85 oooh that’s exciting! Good luck, let us know how you go! I’m 36+2 so we are quite close in dates ☺️ Xox
