@Crazydoglady123 that sounds really stressful! Hope everything is ok now.

For those asking about courses, I'm doing a birthing class with Daisy which I like. It's the only one I could find that wasn't for partners too which sounds awful but he needs to stay with DS so a lot of things are ruled out this time. Like anything, it really depends who runs it. My experience with NCT for example was awful and I would never recommend them to anyone but others say really good things about them.

Have my 36 week scan this week. Feels very close now and still feel like I have way too much to do!! How is everyone else doing?

EsseKey · 13/12/2021 08:18

Hi @BobbleWobble1 !

We had our last session of the NCT antenatal course on Saturday, honestly we loved it and I would recommend it to anyone! However I can also see how the experience can be very different depending on many factors, i.e. the instructors, other people on the course, etc... sorry you had a bad experience with them! I hope the one you are doing now is better for you! :)

I am 33 weeks now, still feeling overall good with not too many pains etc - I just find really annoying at times feeling the bump stretching in one particular spot which apparently my baby really likes to kick all the time!

I am going to the office probably for the last time this week - with the covid advice to work from home if we can + holidays over christmas + I wanted anyway to work mostly from home in the last weeks before mat leave, I don't think I will go there again after this wednesday! feels quite weird, but also makes everything very real!

I hope you 36 wk scan goes well!

Hi everyone hope you're all doing okay. My little girl was born last week, she decided to make an early appearance! She's absolutely perfect and we was allowed home the very next day! Shes been amazing and is doing so well considering she is premature.
Wishing you all happy, healthy pregnancies and babies Thanks

EsseKey · 13/12/2021 11:33

@babyyy1926 congratulations!!! Enjoy these special moments

Alle1991 · 13/12/2021 12:20

@babyyy1926 aww congratulations! Glad both are ok. Is she our first baby to make an appearance on here? 💖

@babyyy1926 Congratulations lovely!! And so glad to hear all is well. How are you getting on? Flowers

Jonesy88 · 13/12/2021 13:03

Aww congratulations @babyyy1926!

DoctorBambino · 13/12/2021 14:33

Wow congratulations!!

Tangfastic91 · 13/12/2021 21:18

Congratulations @babyyy1926 wonderful news!

Crazydoglady123 · 14/12/2021 08:23

@babyyy1926 huge, huge congratulations! How many weeks early was she?

Sorry late catching up! I'm okay and baby girl is still cooking. I ended up having extra monitoring last week as was still having reduced movements and also had ketones and protein in my urine. I got booked an urgent scan by my midwife which I actually got the same day and baby's blood supply is perfect and no signs of where the bleed came from. They estimate her at 5lb10oz too. My urine sample actually came back fine and the ketones and proteins have now gone so I'm back to regular appointments again but after being told last week the bleeding could be her coming early I just feel so frustrated (and impatient 🙈) atm with the not knowing! I had my car seat and pram delivered yesterday so I am totally ready now for her haha.

@babyyy1926 congratulations!! Hope everything is going well!

@Crazydoglady123 so glad everything is okay, and sounds like she's a really solid estimated weight if she does come a bit early.
My baby class teacher (midwife of many years) said once you're fully ready it often subconsciously triggers women to relax and help the baby come. So for those wanting to beat an early induction etc, she said make sure everything is set up and your and baby's bag is packed, have things clean and ready for them to come home etc. Cue some frantic scrubbing and packing over here 😂 just need to instal the car seat.
Hope she stays put as long as you want her to 🤞

Scottishgal85 · 14/12/2021 12:07

Congratulations @babyyy1926, I hope you and your little one are doing well.

It's really scary how close it is getting now. I'm 36 weeks tomorrow and have a final growth scan and consultant app on Monday where I'll be told when I'll be induced hopefully.
I'm really unorganised to be honest, I still need to pack my hospital bag which I'll do this weekend and get the nursery sorted. I think I'm procrastinating Confused
I haven't done any courses like NCT or Daisy, starting to wonder if I should have now.. I did think about hypnobirthing, but again I haven't gotten round to checking it out.
Has anyone else not bothered with doing any courses?

sociallydistained · 14/12/2021 14:23

No courses. I’m just not interested lol. I have done my own research frequently though and find birth stories on YouTube etc to be really helpful. I have read a tonne of books particularly on homebirth/natural birth. I’ve learnt a lot of things I didn’t know and am glad I have a heads up about!!

So I’m 34 weeks on Thursday and in the last 2 weeks I feel my body is going through a checklist of every symptom I’ve not had yet! After a fairly good second trimester I’ve had in the last 2 weeks a UTI, insomnia, acid reflux, feeling absolutely exhausted… and last night I had an itchy rash over my bump. Woke up this morning and it’s also on my arm. Pretty certain I have PUPP. Checked out results on Mumsnet and from pics etc seems it’s the case. Not much can be done but I have midwife Thursday so at least will have bloods and can show her to rule anything else out.

I also have low iron although my midwife said it wasn’t majorly low. I told her I had an iron liquid I could take and she said yeah take that and you’ll be fine. I then got a message from GP though saying I could go on iron tablets I still haven’t picked them up or started them but have been consistent with the iron liquid so we shall see!!

spttc · 14/12/2021 14:40

Iv watched all the online antenatal course my hospital offers, found it good. First pregnancy so far as just practical stuff, caring for a baby etc. I'm considering hypnobirthing.....but more importantly I'm considering baby first aid. Probably need to get on that!

Congrats @babyyy1926 👶🏻 what were you about 35 weeks? Through scrolling you said 31 weeks on nov 14th 👀😂 reassuring to know baby was fine to go home at that stage.

babyyy1926 · 14/12/2021 15:17

Thank you everyone! Me and baby are doing amazing! Shes really shocked me at how well shes doing, i think i convinced myself that she would be in the Nicu for some time and feel extremely lucky that she didn't need to have any help.
@spttc yes I was 35 weeks so technically only a couple of weeks off being classed as full term

sjxoxo · 14/12/2021 15:27

@babyyy1926 awww congrats!! Glad she is doing well 💖 I think you’ve made us all realise that we are pretty much at the end now and better get ready 🤣

The course I did was the digital one from The Positive Birth company , it’s hypnobirthing based but also has sections on the science and why hypnobirthing can help through labour; I’ve found it quite good. Doing one at the hospital aswell but that’s more just general birth & baby care plus what happens at the hospital during the birth & your stay etc. I also tried a course at the swimming pool but it was so bloody cold I went once and haven’t gone back for fear of hypothermia !! I didn’t think it was useful at all to be honest just painful 🤣 Xox

EsseKey · 14/12/2021 15:27

I found the antenatal classes to be an absolute blessing also for my partner to attend! I think I could have gotten similar knowledge (but honestly, not the same level of insight and confidence) from reading, but my partner simply would have disregarded or misinterpreted most of it! He has medical background, so most of the medical stuff was not new to him, but the practical things he learnt (and that we learnt as a couple) and the level of engagement I can see from him now is completely different to be honest!
Just to say that I believe a certain level of preparation (however they get it, not necessarily antenatal classes!) would be extremely helpful also for birth partners/co-parents... :)

spttc · 14/12/2021 15:35

@sjxoxo that's the one I'm thinking of doing. The positive birth one. I take it you recommend it? I like the look of it for the reason you mentioned in that it actually explains WHY it physically helps etc. Might start that tonight!

I agree @EsseKey it's so so important your partner does the course too, why wouldn't he, he's the father 💯 my husband actually found it quite interesting and I wasn't allowed watch it without him 😂 he wants to do the hypnobirthing one with me aswell so he can help me through labour etc. bless him.

Hi,
I know I'm a bit late to the party but I can I join you all? I'm due the end of Jan.

EsseKey · 14/12/2021 16:17

@spttc ah that's so nice! yes for us it was a no brainer that we both had to do the course together, but for some reason I still feel that there is a sort of misconception about birth classes, that they are just for women (as we are the ones actively pushing the thingy out). When are you starting the hypnobirthing one? I am curious about it but not sure it's something for me so I am interested to hear some first hand opinions!

@zonedoutallnight welcome, I am due end of January too!! I hope your pregnancy has been good so far!!

zonedoutallnight · 14/12/2021 16:28

Thanks @EsseKey yeah it's started as a pretty smooth ride in comparison to previous pregnancies (had HG with my first, barely sick at all with this one) although recently has become a bit more complicated - growth scans and blood thinners and pgp and things. But not as hard as others have it I'm sure. I'm just plodding along at the moment. I think once Christmas is over it will all start seeming a bit more imminent.

spttc · 14/12/2021 16:31

Welcome @zonedoutallnight

@EsseKey I think we might start it tonight. There's actually lots of free videos too on their YouTube channel, even watching those would be good, I watched a few - https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLPalE46boIgnyrCVSH2LWUOSw4R3CmL3k

@spttc thank you I will definitely have a look at these videos!

MamaDaria · 14/12/2021 17:21

I wanted to do the ntc classes with my partner, but they all sold out when I was 20weeks. Since then I did 2 free taster classes, which covered 2 different subjects. I found them great, and both lead by midwifes. They are online and last about 2 hours each. First one about labour and birth from letstalkbirthandbaby.co uk and second one about caring for newborn from mybabyacademy.co.uk. Both worth attending if you didn't sign up to anything yet. Additionally I will do the antenatal class by NHS and hopefully this will be enough. Checked some hypnobirthing taster and I think it's not for me to take a full course but will have a look at those videos , thanks @spttc
