@Luckymamma Is fast labour a bad thing?

Im 38 and 6 days today, these are my last two days at work 🙂. My next midwife app is 4 days past due date, when she can do the sweep. Its crazy to think that we can meet our babies any time now. Still seems unreal to me

Congratulations for those that already brought babies to this world. Well done girls!

Crazydoglady123 · 20/01/2022 08:22

Hey ladies! 40 weeks today and freedom day post covid! Re the sweep talk I had two with my DS and my midwife booked me some the other day for over the next week. I didn't know about baby being engaged being a thing for a sweep but this little one has been engaged since 31 weeks so my cervix wants to be favourable 😂 I see my midwife today so not sure if she's doing one today or not/will update later! She was speaking to the consultant yesterday too as to how long overdue I can go before induction as this is an IVF pregnancy. Also have my re scheduled growth scan tonight.

@sociallydistained I am like you and the closer I get to my LO coming I dread the onslaught of family wanting to see LO and come round all of the time. I've said to the OH too he can go back to work as soon as he wants as I'll be fine. I hate having people fussing and being in my hair haha.

Luckymamma · 20/01/2022 09:46

@MamaDaria both my labours were 3 hours and I lost a lot of blood after my first. Quick Labour has advantages but it’s a bit of a shock!

sociallydistained · 20/01/2022 10:34

@Crazydoglady123 I'm the same. It's hard enough to get your head around having your baby in your arms soon but then thinking about everyone hassling... already getting the texts about signs I had pre-warned people not to send 🙄 my dp is at work all week and I am enjoying (or trying to... there are builders in!) some time to myself with just my cats 😂 and it's really strange to imagine as soon as I go into labour all the calm stops!!

I sent my mum a text just now as my masters degree certificate has come and I am chuffed with it! She said she thought the text was gonna be me going into labour. That's all I am to anyone now lol.

I've had period like backache for a few weeks now on and off and a few twinges in my lower a stomach. I felt last night the twinges were more intense but I slept well and they seem to of come to nothing. But I guess this will be how it will be now just thinking everything could be it!

Crazydoglady123 · 20/01/2022 12:56

@sociallydistained I don't mind my son being around me, my OH is okay to a degree (I mean I've just done Xmas/new year and covid isolation stuck in together) but I can't deal with family encroaching my space 🤣

Anyway just had my 40 week appointment and at the end my midwife said that magic word..."sweep?" Hell yes!!! Good news is I'm ranked 6-7 on the bishops score. 2cm dilated (apparently for subsequent pregnancies you're usually at least 1cm anyway) but more so better was she said my cervix was low and really, really soft so she gave me a huge sweep. She said she could feel madams head and easily broke my waters there and then. Feeling a bit shocked after as was bleeding. I did show my midwife as I cleaned up and she said to keep an eye on it as how it is at the minute is okay but if it gets heavier to go DAU. I got home and felt some blood as I went upstairs and have gone through my knickers and leggings so I've cleaned up and put a pad on to keep a check on it. Just after the bleed earlier on at 34 weeks I just feel a bit panicked again 😬 I can't even remember bleeding with the sweeps I had with DS either. I've got my scan at the main hospital tonight too and have got to go to the DAU after anyway to discuss an induction plan as we've agreed to give her till 41 weeks if the scan is okay

sociallydistained · 20/01/2022 13:58

Good news about your cervix @Crazydoglady123 sorry about the bleeding but hopefully all good and at least you're at hospital later anyway!

I have been doing the perineal massage and feel like my cervix is lower... I only really have a clue (not sure I actually do haha) because i remember reading about feeling the position of the cervix to see if you'd conceived. Well mine definitely feels different the last few days Hmm

In other news I'm proper knackered! A great sleep last night and still had a nap just now. That could also be a sign? I haven't really felt that knackered up until now certainly haven't been sleeping as much but guess I need it!

Have already had a few of the dreaded "any signs" texts despite warnings against it early on. I've just been quite blunt with one friend. I wouldn't tell people even if there was, just my best friend and partner obviously.

Tangfastic91 · 20/01/2022 16:38

@sociallydistained glad I'm not the only one getting annoyed by the 'how are you' (read between the lines: any signs of baby yet) messages. Apparently now I'm close to having a baby I'm suddenly interesting to people who wouldn't have bothered checking in beforehand. I just want to stick a general 'we'll let you know once baby is here but for now bugger off' type message on all incoming. But hey maybe its the hormones! I just feel like I've lost my identity a bit and am just a baby maker for now. I think I'll just start leaving 24 hours or so before replying to messages, let them think I'm in labor Grin, doesn't help with the phone calls though. Anyone else? Or feel free to tell me I'm a grumpy cow who is lucky to have people checking in!

Alle1991 · 20/01/2022 17:31

Nope I feel exactly the same @Tangfastic91, driving me mad.

I even had someone I haven’t seen for years message me today with Hi how are you message.

Im leaving some of the messages a good few hours before replying haha. I don’t know how to word them without saying I’ll just let you know when I’ve had her. I know most
Of them in done with good intentions but it’s just a bit annoying. But then I’d probably be complaining if I didn’t hear from anyone haha

shellbeex · 20/01/2022 17:49

Hi all. New to the app and just wanted some advice/ insight on your experience
I am a first time mom. Due date is Saturday 22nd of January. I did go have a monitor done last night as my belly was doing what I would have thought were braxton hicks (tightening and very hard) but lasted way longer than I have experienced throughout the pregnancy and I got a bit worried :/ lol
The midwife said I was having contractions 2 in 10 minutes and I was in the latent phase of labour. What are peoples experiences with this stage and how long did it last for them before they went into active labour ? I'm clueless. Is there anything I should be doing to help this stage progress. I have no cramping but my back is in agony also the tightening still just reminds me of braxton hicks. Just lasting a lot longer.
Hope all you mamas are okay !!

sociallydistained · 20/01/2022 19:21

I think I'm going to start ignoring or muting so I don't even see, most people as they days go on. It's very entitled to think I'm going to let you know I'm in labour. And it's always people I'm particularly close to! My Nan wants me to tell her when I'm in labour but I'm not, bless her. She'll hopefully get a FaceTime soon after.

@shellbeex Everything I've read said keep oxytocin flowing so your happy hormone. Relax as best you can and do things you enjoy that should bring on labour. My midwife said to call when it's 3 in 10 so you sound close? Keep going and good luck.

Crazydoglady123 · 20/01/2022 22:20

So ended up bleeding a bit more and sent my midwife a photo of my pad and she said to go DAU before my scan. Well I got home 45 mins ago finally. I had an examination with the speculum and the midwife on duty thought a thick bloody show and I have a sensitive cervix. She did a gentle internal too and reckons 2-3cm dilated. She was ready to send me home after a pad check but then thought it looked like waters on the pad so I had to go for a walk and come back for another pad check and they were finally happy it wasn't and have let me go home

sjxoxo · 21/01/2022 17:10

Eeek lots of updates here 😁 excited for you all 💖 xox

Had my little boy this morning, an
induction, but once I got past the waiting around it was positive. Fast labour, fast pushing, no interventions or tears. I was dreading having an induction but I'd do it again honestly.

sociallydistained · 21/01/2022 17:15

I am convinced I just had contractions in the middle of Lidl lol. It's the first time I've had pain/pressure that's taken my breath away. I was grimacing under my mask. I'm back home now and still a lot of pressure in my back but not like that I wouldn't say and nothing I can time. We shall see... I'm still not ready 😬

sociallydistained · 21/01/2022 17:16

Oh and my cat won't stop staring at me lol

Amazing news. Congratulations 👏🏼 Glad it all went well. Does your little one have a name yet?
A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 · 21/01/2022 17:23

@sociallydistained thank you! Not yet, we hadn't picked one 😂 will have to get on it now.

Hope your contractions build up 🤞

Crazydoglady123 · 21/01/2022 17:32

Congrats @A1b2c3d4e5f6g7!!!! I'm feeling like I'm going to be an induction job again

@sociallydistained good luck! Hope they get stronger! And send some my way too haha

zonedoutallnight · 21/01/2022 18:46

We haven't picked either so will be in the same boat 😂

SouthwestSis · 21/01/2022 19:09

Congratulations @A1b2c3d4e5f6g7!!
Did you need to have the syntocinon drip?
I was meant to start my induction today but no room at the hospital so have to wait for a call tomorrow now.
Am getting some tightenings and feeling heavy down below but no other signs yet.

A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 · 21/01/2022 19:22

Thank you!

@sociallydistained glad we aren't the only ones without a name!

@SouthwestSis I did have the syntocinon drip. Something I wasn't actually aware of is they can build it up, reduce it down, and stop the drip altogether. So you can ask your midwife to dial it up from the minimum dose and see how you adjust. I did 4.5 hours on paracetamol, then they turned off the drip and I got a very light epidural, before they turned it back on again. The epidural was great, took away half the pain, and I topped it up very little so I could labour on the ball, on the back of the bed, on all fours, on my side etc. And walk about, go to the loo etc. But could still feel some pain and pressure enough to feel contractions and push properly. Should have done the epidural sooner, but I didn't know you could move about so much.

What're you having do you know?

SouthwestSis · 21/01/2022 19:27

I'm having a (not so little -thanks to gestational diabetes!) boy and yes my obstetrician did tell me that about the epidural so I will be asking for it as soon as I need syntocinon I think, but similar to you hoping to get away with a low dose so I can keep moving.
Did you have the pessary to start with? They use cook balloon for induction at my trust but not looking forward to having it put in. I've been pretty uncomfortable down below in the last couple of days, and there has been no action down there in a few months now!

A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 · 21/01/2022 19:37

@SouthwestSis yes the pessary first and did the trick in opening my cervix enough to break the waters. Haha mine neither on the action front 😂

Oh good luck very exciting you'll be induced shortly and meeting your little one x

LilmissCa · 22/01/2022 01:15

Hi everyone
I joined the newborn bubble, our little princess arrived on Tuesday. She's called Fiadh (it's Irish pronounced fee-ah).
Labour started after my 2nd sweep on Monday, mild cramps about an hour after, I pumped & bounced they got more regular by Monday evening but weren't painful enough. Got checked anyway and 3cm so sent home. Bath, some painkillers & more intense cramps started early Tuesday morning. Tens machine on & held off to go to hospital till 9am. Was 6cms. Got diamorphine so snoozed in between contractions, checked again at 1pm, 8cm, chose to get waters broke, and she was here 6 mins later.. all 9lb2oz of her!

Best of luck every one still waiting, hopefully it's not much longer for yous!!
