Congrats @DoctorBambino on baby Max! Hope you're getting some rest

@BobbleWobble1 I'm feeling okay thanks. Mine was more bad headaches and body aches. The last two days I felt 100% fine but now today feel full of cold and sneezing. Thankfully my OH had it before me so I don't have the worry of him getting it now. The childcare thing is annoying though. My DS is at his dads till I test negative and I wish madam would just make an appearance now while childcare isn't a problem! I'm 39+3 and still no sign 🙄 I did my day 6 test late last night and still a strong positive 😭

@Zonedoutallnight sorry to hear your OH tested positive! I was testing negative for ages on my LFT until I did my tonsils as well as nose and got a strong line.

@Luckymamma our little girl has been named for months now. We have a pillow in her room and a sleepsuit with her name on

Littlemiss41andfabulous · 16/01/2022 13:43

@Luckymamma we know we're having a girl and almost agreed on a name for months but have now changed it to one we're both very happy and comfortable with (for both Welsh and English side of the family). I have been using her name in texts to DH and my mum which is surreal but nice.

@sjxoxo how lovely to be home. I hope you are all enjoying getting to know each other in familiar surroundings.

I'm 38+3 today and have final growth scan tomorrow where I'm expecting them to want me in for induction soon after, so me and DH have made the most of our potential last weekend of just us and the dog xx

spttc · 16/01/2022 14:14

@Luckymamma I'm one day behind you. 38weeks today. Feeling very ready too. Praying maybe she will come a bit early 😬😬 doubtful!

We decided on our name really early. My husband said it early on on a whim, about 9 weeks, then we just started calling her that...as time went on we started liking it more and more. Then we were in New York on our babymoon around 23 weeks and on a lovely romantic stroll on our last day, and we came across this grafiti wall in high line park and we were just walking along and he said.... so do u think we will really call her Matilda? And I was halfway through my sentence saying yes I think so ...and I turned towards the wall and there it was....right beside my hand on the wall, among literally thousands of names 😭😭😭😭 chills. We were both teary eyed then so that was that. 😂💕 it's actually there a few times, which is crazy for quite an unusual name!

Wow lots of Covid positives here. It's everywhere. I'm 38 weeks today, sort of just want to hide so I don't test positive in hospital. I'm in Ireland, pretty strict restrictions in hospital if you test positive on admission, even if you're vaccinated & boosted 🙈😬 I really need to avoid it these next 2 weeks.

Sorry for everyone testing positive 😬 I’ve managed to avoid it so far but with a 6 year old in school i feel it’s kind of inevitable!!

Names are so hard aren’t they! We struggled with our second girl and changed our minds towards due date. We’ve had our boys name for a while now, although we tried out some others too then came back to it! But we always keep an open mind until we actually meet the bubba!

Hope everyone feeling ok. I’m so ready to have this baby now!!

SouthwestSis · 16/01/2022 21:14

Yes we are only meeting people outside now to try and avoid covid, it feels like a question of when rather than if we would catch it otherwise!

@Luckymamma would you consider taking your 6y/o out of school once you get to 39w? Tricky as you might go overdue but at least school is less important at age 6 than age 10 or 12!

zonedoutallnight · 16/01/2022 21:15

Thanks all. Not my first- I have 2 older ones at home one of whom had it before Christmas and the other has now tested positive too. We are keeping fairly separate from the infected two in the day and sleeping separately so I don't get it.

I guess if it decides to come this week I will be going on my own. My mum will probably drop me at the hospital but I can't see her wanting to come in. She didn't want to come to my scan when DH had to work.

Hope you are feeling better soon @Crazydoglady123 and @BobbleWobble1

@spttc Matilda is a lovely name.

sjxoxo · 17/01/2022 07:21

sorry to hear some covid positives-there’s so many around! Hope you all feel better soon. My parents haven’t been able to visit yet as my dad had a positive test aswell. thanks all yes nice to be home, although two words for you to take on board… sleep now!! My god the lack of long sleep is a killer. I am breastfeeding every 1.5-2hrs. sometimes he can stretch to 2.5-3hrs but still.. in the day he’ll go back to sleep no problem but at night he’s like a werewolf! Won’t be put back down. So I’m getting like 5 hours a night of broken sleep and it’s a real killer, going to try a different routine tonight, this party can’t continue forever like this 😬

Re names, baby boy is Hugo! We thought of it quite early on and both liked it, made the mistake of telling a few people so everyone started calling him that and then you’re stuck with it.. 😆 to be honest it really hit me I’d had a baby when I saw his name printed on a label at the hospital. When you see their name for the first time, written ‘by someone else’ so to speak you think ‘oh my god he’s now a real person!!’ Magical. Xo

Luckymamma · 17/01/2022 17:44

@sjxoxo Hugo is a lush name!!

And yeah, those first few weeks of might feeds are painful! But they do get better! My husband and I used to tag team night sleeping, I would stay up until around 3 and then he would take over, she would sleep with him til getting up our eldest for school, then I would feed again and then hand back for the school run. It seemed to work until we got baby starts sleeping longer periods!!

@SouthwestSis no we won’t take her out of school, it would be unauthorised absence and she’s already had enough disruption to her schooling over the last 2 years with covid. We’ll just have to keep our fingers crossed!!

Luckymamma · 18/01/2022 19:42

Ugh I’m in MAU having Pre eclampsia tests due to high urine protein. I’m sure all fine and was seen quite quickly which is nice, but just sat on monitor waiting now. Bloods done. Don’t know if I have to stay here u til they get results.

sjxoxo · 18/01/2022 21:59

@Luckymamma oh no sorry to see your post but really great they’ve seen you quickly! Hope you are ok xxx

Luckymamma · 19/01/2022 07:07

Didn’t get home until 11.15 but all is well :)

winterbabyrose · 19/01/2022 08:48

How is everyone getting on in these final weeks? I had my 38 week appointment yesterday (38+3 today), and baby is head down but only 3/5 engaged - has been for the past 4 weeks or so.

Since I hit 38 weeks I have been trying everything I can think of - pineapple, spicy food, sex, but nothing other than the odd very mild period cramp here and there. I know she will come when she is ready, but I am finding this last stretch the most frustrating I think!

Crazydoglady123 · 19/01/2022 09:11

Glad you're home and all is well @Luckymamma

@winterbabyrose the last stretch is the hardest! I'm 40 weeks and finish my covid isolation tomorrow finally

SouthwestSis · 19/01/2022 11:27

I was at the midwife this morning and am now 39+1, was hoping for a sweep (am booked in to start induction on Friday/Saturday) but MW said babies head wasn't engaged at all so she couldn't do a sweep.
Has anyone come across this before? I wasn't aware of head needing to be engaged to have a sweep done.

A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 · 19/01/2022 11:40

@SouthwestSis I'm in on the induction ward right now. They did a sweep on me after the pessary. They could only do it because the baby's head had engaged and I'd dilated to 2 cm. Apparently if the head isn't engaged the cervix won't be low enough for them to reach, and if there isn't a couple cm of dilation, there isn't enough room for them to get their fingers in to separate the cervix. I wasn't aware of this, had asked for a sweep first, and they said they couldn't do it.

I've been walking up and down the hospital stairs to get him to engage more

Trinacham · 19/01/2022 11:44

@SouthwestSis hmm, hopefully someone else will come along with advice but as it stands at current I am booked in to have a sweep at 39+5 and midwife didn't say anything about not being able to do it for any reason. It has been booked in since I was 37+5. Having said that though I have heard that they can't do it if cervix isn't low and soft? But nothing about whether baby's head is engaged

winterbabyrose · 19/01/2022 12:04

Not sure, but I think they all differ with each trust. For instance, my midwife said to me yesterday that I won't be offered a sweep until 40+2, as they 'aren't allowed' to sweep before 40 weeks.. I think they make up their own rules haha!

SouthwestSis · 19/01/2022 12:18

Thanks ladies for your thoughts. Well I am certainly allowed a sweep as my obstetrician has written she is happy for induction from 39 weeks for my gestational diabetes.

I could understand if they had tried and couldn't reach to do a sweep, but to not even have a look was a bit disappointing. Oh well, I will keep walking and bouncing, and batch cooking!

Trinacham · 19/01/2022 13:40

It may well be that we can have sweeps earlier than everyone else due to our Gestational Diabetes.

Does seem strange they wouldn't even try!

Zonedoutallnight · 19/01/2022 14:30

I've been in with the consultant today and have been booked in for a sweep on Tuesday and Friday next week and induction on 2nd feb if they don't get things started. It's all getting a little bit real!

sociallydistained · 19/01/2022 17:10

I might be in the minority, 39 weeks tomorrow, but I wake up everyday just grateful to one more day by myself 😬 I am excited to meet my little one but I just finished work and feel I haven't had a chance to breathe. I'm not used to dp being around all the time either so it's like I'll have a baby and dp here all the time soon and I am someone who does quite like my own time (I know, I know it'll never be the same again, hence why I am appreciating any time before baby comes).
I don't feel too uncomfortable so maybe that helps. I'm sure it may feel different if I go over due date!

Alle1991 · 19/01/2022 19:45

39 weeks today and first day of maternity leave, didn’t really know what to do with myself with everyone else at work.

Got a sweep booked in for Monday morning and a pregnancy massage in the afternoon. I’ve had no signs that she’s on her way apart from the odd period like cramp. I’m happy for her to stay put for a few more days but then she needs to get a move on x

Luckymamma · 19/01/2022 21:38

I know the guidelines are sweep on due date appointment for first but not til after due date for 2nd etc. however I had a sweep with my second at 39+5. I was already have very mild spaced out contractions tho, so was just to move things along. Babies tend to engage early with first pregnancy but not until Labour with subsequent ones so maybe that’s why they have to wait. I was 2cm ish already at both my sweeps. I’m gonna hold off with this one tho as both previous labours were so fast, maybe it will be slightly slower if I can resist the sweep!! Lol

sociallydistained · 19/01/2022 23:49

My next midwife appointment is bang on my due date and she has offered a sweep but I'm declining. Would consider later
