Thanks @spttc! Hope everyone is doing well xx

Hello! Quick question... has anyone else been sick now we're in the third trimester? I was really lucky and didn't get any morning sickness throughout the whole pregnancy, but at about 4am this morning I woke myself up being sick in bed and had to run to the bathroom (sorry, I know that's gross!!) I'm just unsure whether this is normal or not?!

A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 · 13/11/2021 12:05

@Kayl23 this happened to me, was horrible. Apparently it could be acid reflux from stomach getting squashed, so I take a rennie before bed and try not to eat too much late at night or too rich/protein or fat heavy a meal. Hasn't happened again thankfully

SouthwestSis · 13/11/2021 15:07

I don't think a return of sickness in 3rd trimester is uncommon but agree, try antacids and not eating too late.
I have just been for my first swim in over a month, only managed 25 lengths but feeling proud of myself for getting active after a couple of bad weeks with SPD!

Kayl23 · 13/11/2021 17:15

@A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 It really is awful isn't it!!

@SouthwestSis Thanks, I will try that! I also went swimming recently and found that it just felt really nice floating in the water!

BobbleWobble1 · 13/11/2021 17:41

Thanks @spttc

I've not experienced sickness in Tri 3 personally but I have heard it can be quite common particularly because of reflux.

A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 · 13/11/2021 17:53

@Kayl23 yes it made me cry, and I was scared to go to sleep the next couple of nights. Forgot to say an extra pillow has helped me as well.

Has anyone measured pretty off on the fundal height? They got another midwife to come in and check the measurements, but had me down as top of the chart, or massively off the chart depending on whose they used. I was sent down for monitoring by midwife because of ketones jn urine (because i have GD) and reduced movements. All looked okay there, but I've a growth scan next week. Feeling a bit worried, I haven't got a proper handle on my blood sugars

MamaDaria · 13/11/2021 18:16

@A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 how much of the chart where you? I am measuring exactly on the 97 centile, but midwife wasn't worried about it.

A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 · 13/11/2021 18:20

So at 28 weeks they took five measurements. The first midwife took 3 and they were between 33-34 cm. The second midwife came in and took 2, and felt 30-32 was more accurate. Obv showing that this isn't that accurate if they were both so far out on the same day! I've a growth scan booked for next week to check, but was wondering whether to worry.

SouthwestSis · 13/11/2021 18:20

Are you measuring/checking blood sugars @A1b2c3d4e5f6g7?
Have they got you on any medication yet?
My bump has been 80th centile on my grow chart the 2 times I have been measured but no GD and urines have been fine.
Sounds like a growth scan is a good idea?

A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 · 13/11/2021 18:25

@SouthwestSis yup I'm checking 4x plus a day. Sometimes it's great, sometimes I eat a GD approved meal and it's really high. Reckon I will need medicine. Also the ketones means I'm probably not eating enough / getting enough carbs, even though I'm eating some at every meal. Feeling a bit discouraged. Doesn't help I'm out for a meal later with friends and no idea what I can eat when it's not cooked by me.

Anyway sorry, little moan over! How's everyone else getting along?

spttc · 13/11/2021 21:25

It's weird Iv started feeling quite uncomfortable and anxious. I just feel exhausted a lot & overwhelmed trying to keep up with everything- my normal life AND getting organized for baby AND being pregnant (feeling really big & uncomfortable). 29 weeks tomorrow. I honestly feel I'm going to be pregnant forever 🙈 starting to have anxiety about what my body will be like after etc. Will I never be able to work like I did before etc, will I have no free time, just WORRIED in general. Just a low day today I think 😞🙈

Thanks for the new thread.

@A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 I was measuring way over the growth scale at my 28 week appointment last week but midwife didn't appear too concerned. I have some fibroids picked up at 12 week scan so already booked in for extra growth scans starting at 30 weeks. Will be interesting to see what the actual growth is in comparison to fundal height measurement this week (31cm), which is less accurate.

A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 · 14/11/2021 09:33

@spttc I think a bit of anxiety is normal, especially as we're feeling slower and more uncomfortable (and it still feels like
AGES more of being pregnant. Hope you're okay, and get some time this week to focus on yourself and doing something relaxing and nice. Do you have some holiday leave you can use? A couple days off just chilling might help.

Thanks everyone else for the fundal info, seems there's a spread and a few are measuring larger. It's prob normal and ill wait for my scan

spttc · 14/11/2021 10:41

Thanks @A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 🙏 yeh I actually feel a bit better today. I think by the time the evening rolls around I'm just so overtired that I feel irrational! Like a tired toddler 😂 like I get really stressed out and down. I think it's that I'm just THAT exhausted I can't think straight. By 7pm I'm totally worn out. I'm self employed so it's tough as I feel under pressure to get everything done in the next 10 weeks so I can have some chance at any time off when the baby arrives & not have everything fall to pieces.

babyyy1926 · 14/11/2021 16:21

I'm feeling super stressed too. I'm 31 weeks now and because i know i'm being induced early i just feel so unprepared and the weeks are flying by. Every week i'm like oh gosh not long and then i start to have a panic!
The baby has been so active today and i had my hand on my tummy and i felt her hand push out to mine and i felt slightly emotional! It made me stop and think oh my god there is an actual little human in there. I don't think it fully hit me till then that i am actually having a baby. Pregnancy is such a surreal, amazing experience!

thecapitalsunited · 15/11/2021 16:36

Thanks @A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 for the tip about The Nappy Lady's Black Friday sale. I've probably gone a bit overboard but I've ordered everything she recommended for me and saved £100 over all. Very happy. Now I'll just have to hope it fits baby and that I get on with it. But I haven't used disposable sanitary products for about 12 years and it just feels wrong to me to start off intending to use disposables with baby. DH is vaguely supportive even if his dad friends say that it's a bad idea. My mum is thrilled that I'm giving it a go so I'll have some support there.

I'm with everyone who is feeling fed up at being pregnant for ever and yet anxious about how close our due dates are getting. I've banned my team at work from saying 'not long to go' because it's too scary to think about.

BobbleWobble1 · 15/11/2021 17:07

I'm definitely feeling like I've got loads to do and not a lot of time to do it! I'm nearly 32 weeks. Still feeling pretty well to be fair so I'm definitely thankful for that. I have a week of annual leave this week so planning to put it to use with a bit of sorting and organising. You'd think it would be easier second time but it's surprising how little you get done trying to navigate round a toddler.

thecapitalsunited · 16/11/2021 09:47

I got the news that I have gestational diabetes last night. Annoyingly I'm on holiday so can't get to the diabetes clinic until Monday to get the information dump about how to care for myself but I've done some reading so at least I can try to eat right until my appointment. I feel really upset about the thought of not being able to have all my favourite Christmas bits. All the hard work I put in trying to keep exercising and eat healthily seems wasted if it didn't have any effect on my sugar levels.

A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 · 16/11/2021 09:57

@thecapitalsunited ah nooo I'm sorry! You can have some favourite bits at Christmas honestly. After playing around with my blood sugar machine, I've realised that actually a full roast is fine (including potatoes) as long as I have some cauliflower cheese with it. A lot comes down to food pairings (cheese and nuts/nut butters bring your levels down), and a bit of exercise immediately after eating - some dancing around or a walk.

If you want a sweet treat, have it with dinner and some clotted cream (fat slows down sugar absorption) and have a little dance afterwards to burn off the sugar. It's the choccies eaten throughout the day and the odd little glass of champagne I can't tolerate at all now 😢 but alcohol free beer is very low sugar. Sadly the alcohol free wine/bubbles is not.

Good luck lovely. Not long to go now

A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 · 16/11/2021 09:58

@thecapitalsunited oh also, when eating out and people have yummy treat food I can't, a baked Camembert with a little seeded bread and chopped veggies is my treat food. So if they're all scoffing sweets mince pies and choccies later on, pick yourself something up like that to eat so you've got something yummy too

thecapitalsunited · 16/11/2021 10:25

@A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 I've already made two Christmas cakes filled with fruit so I think they might be off the menu unless in portions so miniscule I can't see them! I'm just gutted both with the situation (low carb in the summer would have been much more tolerable!) and with myself for not losing enough weight before falling pregnant. I've banned DH from telling his family because I feel so ashamed that I have it.

A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 · 16/11/2021 10:59

@thecapitalsunited I can actually eat fruit (not bananas) if it's with kefir yoghurt and walnuts - you might get away with it. Also be careful on restricting carbs too much - I had ketones in my urine which can be dangerous as I'd gone too much the other way. They really emphasised seeded wholemeal bread to me, wholemeal pasta, brown rice and beans, lentils and chickpeas. Have learned to make a decent chickpea Thai curry now 😂 but really can't wait to get back to normal.

Don't be ashamed! At my clinic a lot of the people were healthy fit and active - it's often genetic and there's nothing you can do about it. It's a shock right now but you'll be okay

thecapitalsunited · 16/11/2021 11:43

@A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 I've had a good look at Gestational Diabetes UK which I see recommends small amounts of carbs at every meal so planning to follow that. Annoyingly I stopped eating so much wholemeal stuff years ago because it flares up IBS. So now I have to choose between high sugar, ketones and spending all day farting/on the toilet 😂 I'm sure I'll cheer up when I've digested the news and worked out what I can and can't tolerate.

Pretty much everyone agrees that dried fruit is just little bombs of sugar so I think I'm out of luck with the 'dried fruit stuck together with little bits of cake' Christmas cake that I love. I made one for my mum so I might have a tiny bit of hers with some cheese or nuts and keep mine for after baby is born. Then it can be breastfeeding fuel!

A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 · 16/11/2021 13:30

@thecapitalsunited ahh no!! Tbh pregnancy has been pretty gassy for me anyway, so I'd say for another 8 odd weeks partner friends and family will have to put up with it 😂🙈

And yes of course, can indulge guilt free in Jan. LOVE Christmas pudding, as long as you keep one back for you 😂
