For those worried about being bored/anxious once they start maternity leave, I can honestly say that couldn't have been further from my experience and that was with an overdue baby!

Definitely make the most of it if you can as you'll never get that time again as it's totally different once you already have a child.

Ideas to keep busy - cleaning/organising, batch cooking/baking, catch up with friends, hair/beauty treatments, one off repair jobs like mot etc. Last time I did all my Christmas shopping in October! Quality time with your partner. I also looked at nurseries as everything books up so quickly then my husband viewed the final shortlist while he was on paternity leave. Then we didn't need to worry about it til I went back to work.

Can you tell I'm slightly disappointed that I'm not going to have as much me time this time!!

sjxoxo · 26/11/2021 08:29

@BobbleWobble1 ah nice ideas! I just worry I’ll find doing stuff at home really boring compared to my job 😑 has anyone done the online course package from the positive birth company?? I’m thinking of doing it. There’s 43 videos apparently so that will take up a bit of my time haha x

A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 · 26/11/2021 08:37

@sjxoxo I know what you mean! I've already washed, dried and organised all my baby clothes and nappies, built the cot and flat pack furniture, deep cleaned the place etc. All my friends would be at work so I couldn't catch up with them. Box sets I'm reserving for when baby is here and I'm stuck feeding etc. I'm worried I'll be bored too and have requested to work as far up to my due date as possible. That might change if I get more tired etc or start feeling ill, but so far so good.

Do however need a haircut and a wax but will just slot those in somewhere

thecapitalsunited · 26/11/2021 15:08

@A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 You aren't the only one now with ketones in your urine. Even without carbs (which is what is causing the ketones) my sugar levels are high so I've been put on metformin. Quite possible that I'll end up with insulin too. My morning numbers are 7-8 and I spiked to 11.4 this morning after full fat greek yoghurt and a small handful of nuts!

I wasn't planning on packing my hospital bag just yet but I think now that I'm likely to be induced at 38 weeks or earlier, I need to get on things. Like actually wash all the baby clothes and start folding nappies ready to go. Cot and dresser is going to go up this weekend.

A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 · 26/11/2021 15:35

@thecapitalsunited I'm so sorry to hear that.
I can eat a lot more on the insulin, so hopefully you'll be able to also with the metformin 🤞 My levels are hovering around 6ish now, even after a big plate of wholemeal pasta.

Yeah it'll feel good to be organised! I'm finishing the last bits too. On the plus side we'll get a few weeks less of pregnancy and needles.

Hope you get on okay with the meds

Hey ladies, anyone else feeling like we January ladies only have a few weekends of freedom left?
I am getting so tired out these days that any getting out and about really takes it out of me and I'm back to needing afternoon naps on the days I'm not working.
I suppose it doesn't help that my bump is on the larger size at 80th centile.

thecapitalsunited · 29/11/2021 10:09

@SouthwestSis Even DH said something the other day about the babies arrival being counted in weeks now rather than months. Plus in a few days we will be able to say that 'baby is due next month' which is a scary thought!

I thought I was doing well to feel really good but now my gestational diabetes medication has kicked in and I'm no longer floating on a constant sugar high I feel tired again. It's almost a shame because I felt ridiculously good after months of feeling like crap.

Jonesy88 · 29/11/2021 12:11

We had a growth scan today and baby’s tummy measured big :(. Baby was in a really awkward position she said and could have just had a drink, but it could also be gestational diabetes so I need to record my blood sugar for the next week to see. I had my GTT 2 weeks ago and it was fine so I’m hoping just was just the timing of the scan. Next scan is booked for Christmas Eve, how festive! 😂

BobbleWobble1 · 29/11/2021 18:26

Sorry a few of you are starting to feel a bit rubbish. I'm still feeling pretty good to be fair. Sleep could be better as I find I wake up if I need to change position but I still don't get up to pee so I shouldn't complain. 34 weeks on Wednesday. Only 9 physical shifts left to work and have a few Christmas bits planned over the next few weekends before I can hopefully wind down a bit.

@Jonesy88 hope all goes ok with the scan and baby was just being awkward.

A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 · 30/11/2021 09:22

@Jonesy88 hope you don't have GD and baby is just being awkward! Good they're checking you again though.

I'm luckily still feeling pretty good also atm, and able to do everything as before. Am getting a bit nervous for the birth though! Any of you ladies used Aniball or planning to? I was really keen, but you're meant to start it at 36 weeks, and if I am induced at 37 weeks it doesn't give much time to practice. They said I can try it earlier at my own risk, but not sure I want to risk injuring myself before the birth 🙈😂

Irishfarmer · 30/11/2021 10:01

Hello lovely ladies sorry for butting in here, how exciting you are all so close now. I am a long way behind ye, not due til July 2022.

But I saw you are due in January. As someone born in January, can I ask that you make a big deal out of your DC birthday. So many people make it out to be the worst month of the year/ something to be endured, my birthday has fallen on "blue Monday" a few times now, the media in general is very negative towards January. I used to be of that opinion too, until a friend said to me she would love to be born in January, that " it is an amazing time, new year, new chapter, everything is fresh and the possibilities are endless for a new beginning" it put a much better positive spin on the month for me.

I always had a birthday party, but it sometimes felt like it was a chore/ another expense for my parents to be saddled with after Christmas. I got fobbed off as my main birthday present being part of my Christmas present a few times, or sure didn't you get so much just 3 weeks ago from Santa. This may have been true, but a 6 yr old doesn't see it that way!!

When older a lot of my friends hadn't been paid since before Christmas so couldn't go out for my birthday, but there is zero you can do about that! In fact that has worked in my favour, I called a cocktail bar one year which has a €15 cover charge and said what would they offer me to bring 10 women into the bar on a cold Jan weekend, we all got free tickets and 2 free cocktails :)

Anyway, sorry if I offended anyone, that is not my intention. Congratulations on your soon to be on this side babies :)

Tangfastic91 · 30/11/2021 10:48

Congrats on the pregnancy @Irishfarmer your thoughts are exactly why I have no desire to go early (due date 25 Jan)! Baby needs to stay put until Jan payday weekend Grin

winterbabyrose · 30/11/2021 11:50

@Irishfarmer Congratulations on your pregnancy lovely, and I agree also! My birthday is mid-November, and even with 6 weeks between that and Christmas, I still got the 'so close to christmas' comments, and regularly got joint birthday/christmas presents when I was younger. So yes, I completely agree and will be making a big deal out of my LO's birthday each year, with no correlation to Christmas!

winterbabyrose · 30/11/2021 11:52

Got my 31 week midwife appointment this afternoon.. the last 3 weeks since my last one have absolutely flown by!! Anyone else finding it a little scary (but exciting of course) that from tomorrow, we can say we are having a baby next month!! Grin

thecapitalsunited · 30/11/2021 16:16

@winterbabyrose I was thinking this the other day. It's scary but at the same time my gestational diabetes has gone completely haywire so I'm almost glad to have the end in sight.

A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 · 01/12/2021 07:07

I honestly can't wait now for baby to be here, and like @thecapitalsunited some of that is probably liked to the GD. But if potentially it's just six weeks left to go I'm so happy with that!

SouthwestSis · 02/12/2021 11:54

Hope you're all well today! I am facing the threat of GD too after having some glucose in my urine so have to have another urine check next week.
I really feel like we are on the final countdown now, some of us could be holding our babies in only 3 or 4 weeks!

tavileh · 02/12/2021 15:52

Thought I would just say hi, and get in on the 'big bump maybe GD' thread!

I'm nearly 32 weeks, haven't had a GTT but they did a random blood glucose check at my 28 week blood test and it came back normal. Then, all of a sudden, my bump went from measuring 50th centile last time to 97th this week! Midwife sent me for another random blood test, but I'm not sure how reliable that will really be.. Anyone here been diagnosed with GD from that sort of blood test?

Worried I've got undiagnosed GD, or a huge baby Confused. Baby was apparently head down, so no excuse!

A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 · 02/12/2021 16:01

@tavileh what's the random blood test? Have you had the two hour GTT?

I have GD, bump is either measuring almost 100 centile with the most conservative measurement, or completely off the chart - midwifes couldn't agree on the size, two ended up measuring to double check. However at the last growth scan he was estimated to weigh only in the 70th centile. So hopefully you won't have GD and you won't have a ginormous baby!

A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 · 02/12/2021 16:03

@tavileh sorry I see you haven't had the GTT. If they test you exactly one hour after eating a meal, it might well pick up if you have GD. Maybe ask them if they can do this. If it was a random test in the daytime, not after food, I'm not sure it would pick it up as levels can have spiked and fallen, and it's the spiking which is dangerous

tavileh · 02/12/2021 16:21

Thanks @A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 that's what I thought. The test 3 weeks ago was about 30 mins after I'd eaten, and was fine. The one this week, they did it at least 3 hours after I last ate, so I doubt it would pick anything up.

I guess I'll have to see what comes back, maybe they'll send me for a GTT or a growth scan next, have to see what happens! I might ask for a GTT, because I don't want to be undiagnosed..

A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 · 02/12/2021 16:49

@tavileh Yes I think they should give you a GTT to be sure, as it's okay if managed, but can cause issues if not. Three hours after you've eaten seems a bit ridiculous!

Jonesy88 · 02/12/2021 21:52

Looks like there’s quite collection of us hovering on the edge of GD. Good luck to all.

My blood sugars have been okish so far when I’ve been testing. Although I’d had 2 high readings so if I get a third in the next 3 days I have to ring the clinic. My highs are only slightly higher than the limit so I’m hoping I’m borderline if anything.

A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 · 02/12/2021 22:28

@Jonesy88 I'm borderline mostly in my readings (normally only 3ish a week at under about 8.5) and still got put on medication unfortunately

Jonesy88 · 03/12/2021 15:51

@A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 oh no! It’s my first read of the day. I get 5.7/5.8 but then am fine the rest of the time. The lunches & dinners I have vary and the reads for these don’t breach, damn the fasting one!
