Trigger warning to mention of weight gain

Hello! 19 weeks 5 days here, first time mum 👋 I’ve put on just under 3kg since I found out I was pregnant. And 2kg has come in the last month.

Just wondering how much other people have put on and how “normal” this is? Looking for reassurance I’m not alone!

(ironic that I’m writing this as I’m making a second breakfast 😅)

Watching

WorryMcGee · 26/10/2021 11:37

I’m 14 weeks tomorrow and have put on 1lb, although I think I look like I’ve gained more than that and my jeans don’t do up comfortably. But - I walked the South Downs Way (101miles) at 9 weeks ish and ran the London Marathon a couple of weeks ago, so I think that’s affected it - I think I have actually put on more than 1lb but the additional water weight etc I was carrying because of training for those two things all summer made me an artificially higher weight to begin with if that makes sense? I always put on weight when training for marathons, and the last time I did an endurance hike (80 miles in three days) I finished it 6lb heavier than when I started (omg I was FUMING 😂)

Hiya
I'm 19 weeks 4 days and I've put on about 9lbs - I'm not sure if that's good or bad but I've found this calculator helpful www.calculator.net/pregnancy-weight-gain-calculator.html

Before getting pregnant ( literally the week before I found out lol) I had hit my target of 2.5 stone weight loss so it's been a minefield to try and get over the body dysmorphia but I keep reminding myself as long as baby is happy and healthy then that all that matters.

GeorgiaMcGraw · 26/10/2021 11:47

16+5 and I've gained 3 lbs. Bump is quite big though, so I thought it'd be more. Midwife told me she doesn't weigh women (after the first appointment) because there isn't a correlation between mum's weight and baby's size. She just advised not to "pile on the pounds" but I guess it looks different for everyone. So long as you're eating fairly healthily and moving about, you'll probably be fine.

TheLovleyChebbyMcGee · 26/10/2021 11:52

3.1kg at 30 weeks, I've got a very high BMI to start with. I haven't consciously been trying to 'lose weight' but have been eating smaller portions because I get full easier!

JuneySunshine · 26/10/2021 11:55

Hi, 19+6 here and have gained 3kg exactly. Today is actually the first time I've weighed myself since booking so no idea how and when that's gone on, but it feels like mainly in the last 6 weeks with anything before that being my newly enormous boobs!

I don't feel that I've gained weight other than on my tummy and chest so I'm not going to worry unless it's raised as an issue, or I start to see a double chin!

Are you feeling ok with it @HopefulRose ?

Ughmaybenot · 26/10/2021 11:58

I think it’s so different for everyone! There’s really no right or wrong within reason. As long as you’re eating relatively healthily and exercising when you can, you can’t go wrong.
At 20 weeks I was actually down 8lbs from my starting weight (altho I had lost 1.5 stone at the worst) as I was continuously sick for ages, and started throwing up at 5 weeks or so.
I’m now 38.5 weeks and have gained 20lbs. I haven’t actually changed much other than a big ole bump, and while it still seems like a lot of weight to put on, it is all part of the pregnancy journey.

toadstool32 · 26/10/2021 12:20

21+4 and gained 11lb

Bananapancakes6 · 26/10/2021 12:37

I'm almost 39w and I've gained 2st exactly.

Scirocco · 26/10/2021 12:45

24 and a half weeks here, and I've put on 5kg so far... I was about my usual weight for most of the first trimester, then put on about 2kg between 11 and 21 weeks (although the bump appeared fairly early so by 16 weeks I was in maternity jeans...). Then, between 21 weeks and now, there's been a growth spurt and 3kg have appeared! Almost all seems to be bump and bra size though (gone from a D to a G/GG, but back size has remained the same).

I've been eating reasonably healthily, and it seems fairly pregnancy-specific, so I'm trying to reassure myself that my pre-pregnancy jeans will fit again one day! They still fit in the thighs, just not over the bump.

timeisnotaline · 26/10/2021 12:46

23 weeks and I’ve put on 9lbs / 4 kg but really it’s 14 lbs as I lost a couple kgs in first trimester. Feels like world record weight gain but I look at the recommended weight gain range (varies depending on starting BMI).
@GeorgiaMcGraw my obstetrician wants to know my weight because it makes a difference to birth complications/difficulty, not because it tells him anything about baby size.

coles85 · 26/10/2021 12:47

Hello! I'm currently 17 + 4 and have gained about 2kg since I found out.

It's so hard to know what's normal. Try not to worry about it! Some people pile it on at the end of pregnancy (me last time!) and others gain it gradually. As long as you're eating well, still moving as much as you feel you can, and drinking plenty of water then just let your body do its thing!

Congrats on the pregnancy

timeisnotaline · 26/10/2021 12:48

Much like @Scirocco actually- hoping this is the accelerated weight gain phase and it eases off! Mine is also mostly on bump. Which is a shock for people when you’ve been working remotely and suddenly meet colleagues for lunch for the first time in months, like today Grin

EarCatVega · 26/10/2021 12:52

I’m 31 weeks and put on 2 stone. I was classed as underweight before pregnancy.

mowglika · 26/10/2021 12:56

I’m 9w and I’ve put on 4kg Sad eating constantly because of the nausea. I think the weight gain will slow down a lot when the nausea goes, my last pregnancy I put on a total of 6kg

Wifflywafflywoo · 26/10/2021 13:52

I put on exactly 1 stone in two weeks after getting OHSS from IVF. I'm now 10 weeks pregnant with the OHSS fluid in my ovaries/abdomen and still weigh the same so not sure what is fluid and what is baby weight! Shall see once the OHSS subsides I guess.... 😄

Dyra · 26/10/2021 15:25

18+2 and put on about 1kg.

I was already obese pre-pregnancy though, so hoping the weight gain isn't going to be too much. Last pregnancy I put on ~15kg by 36 weeks.

JackJack84 · 26/10/2021 15:31

Between 8 and 26 weeks I put on 8kg. Then I was diagnosed with GD & have lost 4.5kg in 10 weeks due to the change in my diet.

marykitty · 26/10/2021 15:32

I am 39+1

14 kg in both pregnancies

Dipsydoodlenoodle · 26/10/2021 15:41

I put on about 3kg until I was 20 ish weeks. Then I've put in another 7kg (36 weeks).

Moominmiss · 26/10/2021 15:58

I had my baby at 37+4 and weighing myself that morning I weighed 9lb more than before I fell pregnant. So 9lb gain for me. But that was largely due to the fact I got GD and had to stick to a pretty strict GD diet and couldn’t eat so many things.

When I had my baby (that weighed 7lb 5oz), by the time baby was out, along with placenta and water, I actually weighed a fair bit less than I did pre pregnancy.

But in one of my previous pregnancies I put on nearly 4 stone! There’s no right or wrong. As long as you’re eating healthily and in moderation then that’s what matters.

bumphope2020 · 26/10/2021 16:23

I'm almost 19 weeks and put on 19lbs which is quite worrying. Definitely seems far more than anyone else in this thread.

bollocksthemess · 26/10/2021 16:24

I’m 16 weeks with twins, first time mum. I’ve put on 6lbs so far, but I got pregnant immediately after getting married so I was very slim at the beginning. I didn’t put any weight on for the first 12 weeks, but my jeans didn’t fit at 11 weeks. People tell me I’m looking quite small for having twins, but I think that’s mostly because people expect you to be whale sized immediately whereas I think that comes later.

expectinglittlebear · 26/10/2021 16:39

26+2 and 19lbs, which worries me... but I can still fit into my size 8 jeans perfectly, and can zip it up, just can't do the top button up because of bump. So it seems as though most of the weight I have put on is bump and baby.

HopefulRose · 26/10/2021 19:37

Thanks for sharing everyone, sounds like there’s no “normal” when it comes to pregnancy weight gain. Hope all your pregnancies go well 💗
