Trigger warning to mention of weight gain

Hello! 19 weeks 5 days here, first time mum 👋 I’ve put on just under 3kg since I found out I was pregnant. And 2kg has come in the last month.

Just wondering how much other people have put on and how “normal” this is? Looking for reassurance I’m not alone!

(ironic that I’m writing this as I’m making a second breakfast 😅)

I put on 2kg in the first 10 weeks, nothing until about 20 weeks, then have steadily gained since then. Currently 29 weeks and 6kg up.

I'm all bump! My legs and arms are still skinny and you can still see my ribs (I was a slim size 6/8 before I got pregnant) but I've been in maternity jeans since 14 weeks as my bump just grew and grew! No signs of it slowing down either!

TashieWoo · 27/10/2021 13:19

1kg at 13 weeks, slightly high BMI (28) to start with so want to keep weight gain to a minimum. Just getting a little bump now but legs and arms still the same.

QueenLagertha · 27/10/2021 19:50

I'm 13 weeks and have gained 3kg. Just kept eating and eating expecting the morning sickness to start at any minute..it didn't

RainbowTortoise · 27/10/2021 20:28

I’m 34 weeks and I have put on 3 stone so far… I started at 9.5 stone and I’m now 12.5. I tend to stop weighing myself at this point (I put on very similar amounts with my other three pregnancies).

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 27/10/2021 21:20

3kg (less than half a stone?) at almost 20 weeks is nothing OP - I've put on a stone at 20 weeks and most of it in the last month as I've been hungry all the time Sad. I'm really annoyed with myself because I was already overweight pre-pregnancy (BMI 27), so I was hoping to limit my weight gain to about 1 and a half to 2 stones in total for the whole pregnancy. I'm going to have to try going easier on the sweet stuff and not giving in to the cravings Blush.

whyiscakesodelicious · 27/10/2021 21:29

I am 30 weeks and have lost 4lbs since becoming pregnant. Started at 11st 11 and am now 11st 7lbs. Baby is growing well as having growth scans. I think it's because I'm running round after a toddler all day and our cat has had kittens so they are also a handful! I also used to drink a ton of red bull before becoming pregnant so not getting all those extra calories! I think it can vary so much. My last pregnancy I put on a stone by 40 weeks.

EgweneWoT · 27/10/2021 21:43

I’m 25+3 and have put on 20lb already Blush 8lb more than I should have Confused

I’ve been using the Pampers weight gain tracker to have an understanding of where I should be:

www.pampers.co.uk/pregnancy/pregnancy-weight-gain-calculator

I’ve been good the last three weeks and haven’t put on anymore weight thankfully.

coffeewithmilk · 27/10/2021 21:51

I'm 26 weeks and I've put on 14 pounds.
Thought it was a lot more but i seemed to pile it on quickly in the beginning and now it's slowed down slightly. Presume it'll speed back up again over the 3rd trimester

Derbee · 28/10/2021 02:09

18w5d and I’ve lost 9kg due to HG in the early weeks. Currently 3kg under my booking in weight, but seem to be consistently putting on 0.5kg/week at the moment. Not sure what’s normal

ShootingStar94 · 28/10/2021 03:06

34 weeks and gained about 8.5 kg (1.3stone)

I lost a lot in the first half thanks to food aversion and nausea and only got back up to my pre pregnancy weight around 24 weeks but have steadily been putting it on since.

I use this calculator to see where I fall against the guidance: www.calculator.net/pregnancy-weight-gain-calculator.html

Crunchingleaf · 28/10/2021 03:58

I am 37 weeks and was 0.7kg above booking weight when I weighed myself yesterday. I was diagnosed with GD at 28 weeks and I realised about that time that my weight wasn’t going up. Baby is getting bigger though. Once I give birth I will most likely be a few kg under my booking weight.
My first pregnancy I put on loads on weight everywhere hips, thighs, arms etc. This time belly and boobs got bigger and rest of me seems the same.

HopefulRose · 28/10/2021 17:44

Hi @JuneySunshine, I’m feeling good thanks! It’s a bit weird for me gaining weight because I’ve been on such a journey this year losing weight but this is for a much needed good cause. I just hope I have the motivation the other side to lose it all again 😅

How are you feeling? You must also be 20 weeks today?

@EgweneWoT thanks for sharing the weight loss tracker, that’s super helpful!

And don’t worry about the extra weight, you’re growing a human so cut yourself some slack!

2 stone with my DD and currently 40+2 and have put on 2 1/2 stone this time round. Midwife recommends putting on 2 stone as a minimum. I found I was my hungriest in 1st and 2 trimester (was lucky I didn’t suffer with morning sickness)

zeena83 · 28/10/2021 18:12

29+4 and have put on 16lbs. Had a spike early on but it has really slowed down recently. 28 week scan showed good growth so far so fingers crossed all ok. Not really eating anything more than normal because I'm not all that hungry, staying with in-laws while bathroom gets renovated and the stress of being here seems to have killed my appetite... Grin

EgweneWoT · 28/10/2021 18:21

You’re very welcome @HopefulRose and thank you I needed to hear that. Smile

Ajl46 · 28/10/2021 18:32

@bumphope2020

I'm almost 19 weeks and put on 19lbs which is quite worrying. Definitely seems far more than anyone else in this thread.
I'll join you! 20 weeks & 9kg here... felt so sick for the first 3 months I grazed constantly.
JuneySunshine · 28/10/2021 23:14

Hi @HopefulRose, oh that must be strange for you, having been losing weight to now be going the other way. And probably means you're naturally more aware of your weight changing than others might be. I'm a bit similar in that I'd just finished Couch25k and got back to running regularly and improving my times then boom, baby, and now I'm positively crawling on my 20 minute mini-runs. What timing we have!

I've been fine with the weight going on the only inconvenience has been my bra size, which wasn't small anyway, increasing 2 sizes by 6w so even my clothes which are loose on the tummy don't really fit anymore so it's been maternity clothes or shop up one size.

And yes, 20w! Had my scan today but baby cakes wasn't playing ball and I need to back for more measurement they couldn't get due to their position and wiggling 😅 have you been for yours?

HyphenCobra · 28/10/2021 23:42

It's massively dependent on your pre pregnancy weight too though. If you are tiny you may find you pile on more weight quicker. I put on max 2.5 stone in last 2 pregnancies. That took me from a beanpole size 6 to a size 18!! But 2.5 stone on someone already bigger wouldn't have made such a massive noticeable impact on them.

Dreambow · 29/10/2021 09:31

Hey, I am 15 weeks and have put on 4 kg. Was slightly underweight to begin with. I have always been very careful with my weight as I like to be slim so I find putting on weight stressful (even though I know it’s normal and expected).

In my first trimester this went completely out of the window; I could not stop eating and was constantly hungry. Kept thinking about what I was going to eat next. I think I actually managed to feel full on two occasion in that time as I was so hungry. I could eat non stop and I think doubled my calorie intake per day. Also food tasted waaaayyy more amazing than normal; it’s weird as some people say their sense of smell is heightened but mine was my tastebuds!

I didn’t really get nauseous (apart from a stomach bug which made me a bit more sensitive afterwards) but I was so fatigued and exhausted all the time. I struggled with the thought of putting on weight as I was not doing any exercise but eating excessively.

This has all calmed down now and I have more energy and I am less hungry than I was. Might start doing some walks and some classes now that I have my energy :)

Pitstop1986 · 29/10/2021 14:37

I posted earlier that I was 6kg up at 29 weeks.

Did my weekly weigh in this morning and I've shot up to 7.2kg gained at 30 weeks! I guess the cravings for cake and chocolate and all things sugary have finally caught up with me! I'd been craving healthy foods like apples and carrot sticks up until about 2 weeks ago and now all I want is sugary treats SmileCake

sociallydistained · 29/10/2021 14:59

I haven’t dared weigh myself. I know it’s a lot and I know it’s my fault. I am 27 weeks so I am guessing they will weigh me at 28 week app. I haven’t been weighed since initial booking in appointment.
