I'm only 6+2 and super paranoid about absolutely everything. Had my fet on the 28/09, it was our second fet after the first one failed, I had bleeding before I even got to the otd. My scan is this Thursday and it's fair to say I'm bricking it.

Would be nice to chat with some ladies who've done ivf, I have been keeping an eye on the June 2022 thread but sometimes I find I can't relate.

@paintfairy I get that. I keep referring to things in the hypothetical, like, I 'would' be due at X date, I 'would' be X far along now. A bit like a 'I WOULD be X, Y or Z if this was real'. I don't think it helps that my brown spotting is back again. I keep googling lots of stories saying its ok, but its still hard to relax. I can't believe I still have so long to wait for first scan to see if things are ok.

strawberrysummer19 · 11/01/2022 13:08

@paintfairy I did the same same thing the other day! And wish I never read them now
I had a private scan Saturday and was 11+4 but was measuring 11+6 so I was just reassured from that as the scan pic was so clear and even though a dating scan sonographer seemed to check quite a lot and was saying all looks healthy even though my 12wk nhs scan isn't until I'm 13+1 so for me having that early scan Saturday has reassured me (for now!) more than my early ones if that makes sense

I couldn't believe the difference from 9-11 and a half. X

@Holskey thanks for the reassurance the other day. All symptoms and plenty of nausea came back with a vengeance soon after so I was likely panicking for nothing.

@2mumlife welcome and congratulations! It is lovely seeing you here.

I have my 12 week scan Friday next week. Seems like forever away. I am now regretting not having had a 9 week scan but it's too late now as the clinic advises at least 2 weeks between scans.
We definitely want to know the sex of the baby. My DW is convinced it will be a boy. We don't really mind either way but end up referring to the baby as "he" when we chat, or by our preferred boys name and we don't want to spent the next 7 months getting attached to a name if it turns out to be a girl.

I think it's difficult to get attached so early on, as there is so much uncertainty, so even though we do acknowledge it and the little bump, it still doesn't feel completely real. I hope next weeks' scan will help. We will be telling our families then so it should make it feel real.

Holskey · 11/01/2022 16:47

Oh my goodness, I'm glad I never read whatever you've read @paintfairy about movements on the 12 week scan. I have to say it sounds like bollocks to me (I'm sure they sleep and rest in there, probably a lot). I've read some threads about 20 weeks scan issues but I didn't know there was a dedicated section. I think I'll steer clear of that!

@2mumlife we told a friend of my DP that I wouldn't be able to attend their July wedding (no kids allowed) and we spent far too long composing the message. "We will have a newborn" seemed like tempting fate but we didn't want to be pessimistic either.

@Novavee that's why we found out the first time. There's also something nice about being able to say "he" or "she".

Hi everyone! Hope all are well. I have a progesterone question. My clinic had me stop yesterday at 8 weeks exactly (fresh transfer) following a successful ultrasound! I'm thrilled and also feel honestly 100x better physically. Mild nausea and heartburn Vs unbearable nausea, having to work from bed, dizzy, terrible heartburn and reflux for the past 2.5 weeks. Does this sound normal? To have such a marked improvement in symptoms from coming off 3x200mg utrogestan daily? Feels too good to be true!

Anyone else stopped meds at this point?

Porridgeislife · 12/01/2022 18:44

Progesterone does make you bloat really badly and some people are pretty sensitive to it so I don’t think it’s unheard of to also feel nauseous/dizzy on it.

I stopped officially at 15 weeks (and had half a box of Cyclogest so kept going for a little bit longer) but my cycle was a fully medicated FET so they had to really trick my body into thinking it was pregnant.

notsofertilemyrtle · 12/01/2022 18:49

Thanks @Porridgeislife I've heard FET have a fair bit more medication. It's the complete shift in nausea that has me confused. I'm delighted I can eat, the clinic really reassured me I should stop at 8 weeks, I just can't believe the difference in how I feel. Maybe I'm sensitive to it like you say some can be!

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 12/01/2022 20:33

My clinic said to stop the progesterone after 8 weeks too for fresh transfer (although I had extras so went down to 1 a day for another week or so, just because I was paranoid!).

Everything was fine with the pregnancy (I'm currently 31 weeks along) but luckily I also didn't really have any significant side effects from the pessaries either - I was just grateful to not have the hassle/messiness any more!

notsofertilemyrtle · 12/01/2022 21:05

@IamnotwhouthinkIam thanks for your reply. Really glad you've had a successful pregnancy with finishing around 8 weeks. It seems less common, most people even fresh seem to go to 10-12. Hopefully it'll all be fine for me too; I'm sure the clinic want the best outcome too. Maybe I should just enjoy feeling better for a while Halo

paintfairy · 12/01/2022 21:13

@notsofertilemyrtle I was meant to but being the placenta doesn't take over until 10-12 weeks I wasn't happy stopping. So I've carried on. I'm now weaning off it though, as I'm 12 weeks. Fingers crossed.

notsofertilemyrtle · 12/01/2022 21:20

@paintfairy that's what I have heard as the logic too. Makes sense and also you have to be comfortable with it too I guess! She said each empty follicle becomes the corpus luteum and this provides progesterone like a non-IVF pregnancy...I've done 48h without so far, hoping things stay good. There's always something to worry about isn't there!!

paintfairy · 13/01/2022 09:15

@notsofertilemyrtle yes the CL should be providing progesterone (in a fresh transfer) but if that were working correctly then you'd not need to take pessaries at all. So you either don't need them, or you need them until the placenta takes over because you don't have enough of your own (some people the CL doesn't do its job properly). Which is 12 weeks to be sure. So to give them until 8 makes no sense to me. 🤷‍♀️ If you stop then at 8 weeks and all is OK then you never needed them at all. 🤣

2mumlife · 13/01/2022 09:47

Hey ladies, sadly I think I started having a miscarriage yesterday (big gush of fresh blood). Going into the clinic today for an emergency scan to confirm, but doesn't look good. Best of luck with your pregnancies - I'm glad IVF works for some x

becarefuloutthere · 13/01/2022 10:29

@2mumlife so sorry to hear this. I hope you're ok 💕

strawberrysummer19 · 13/01/2022 10:33

@2mumlife I'm very sorry to hear this
I don't want to give false hope but equally until your scan just see what they say

I had LOTS of cysts and some were (can't remember the name) but had blood and the clinic said look out for them dispersing and sometimes you hear a pop - I never did but i was always expecting it to happen so i know with bleeds from reading on here that there could be an answer

How far gone are you? I'm hoping you have reassuring news xx

strawberrysummer19 · 13/01/2022 10:36

@paintfairy hiya I had this question
I'm on progesterone and told to stay on until 12 weeks. I'm 12+2 and going to spend a week weaning off as my scan is next Wednesday so thinking I'll be off by then once I've had my scan x

Holskey · 13/01/2022 11:12

@2mumlife I'm so sorry to hear this. Fingers crossed there's another explanation (totally possible). Do let us know how your scan goes xx

2mumlife · 13/01/2022 11:17

@becarefuloutthere @strawberrysummer19 @Holskey Highly doubting things are ok - was in the middle of a Zoom meeting yesterday when I could feel this massive gush - soaked all the way through pantyliner, knickers and my trousers before I could get to the bathroom, so definitely not a small bleed. Had the telltale intense cramping for a few hours after, so everything screams miscarriage.

TheSnufflet · 13/01/2022 11:56

Oh gosh @2mumlife I'm so sorry Flowers there's always the possibility that it could be a large SCH but you won't know until the scan, please look after yourself x

TheSnufflet · 13/01/2022 12:01

@paintfairy RE stopping progesterone, I've read some recent research/studies that basically says that for fresh transfers supplemental progesterone may be completely unnecessary due to the presence of multiple CLs, it's just that fertility clinics have always prescribed it as part of a belt and braces approach, i.e. there's no real downside in taking it even if you don't need it. For what it's worth, I was told that normally I'd be advised to stop at 8 weeks but have been told to continue to 12 weeks (tomorrow) due to twins. So who knows really...

paintfairy · 13/01/2022 12:14

@strawberrysummer19 @TheSnufflet I think my concern was both the clinic and the hospital before (I had 3 iui) said that my progesterone was the reason I spot in my LP. So if that was true, then stopping at 8 weeks seemed silly to me. I agree most people probably don't need and clinics just give it anyway.
I'm 12 weeks now also. I have already dropped down from 600mg to 400mg and today I've dropped to 300mg. I'll continue to wean off it! Fingers crossed.

@2mumlife I'm sorry to read that. I hope that it isn't what you think. How stressful for you. 💐💐

strawberrysummer19 · 13/01/2022 12:17

Ah I see, I did read others stopping earlier
I'll continue to wean off as I have a whole box left.
@2mumlife keeping my fingers crossed x

notsofertilemyrtle · 13/01/2022 12:46

Thanks @paintfairy @strawberrysummer19 @TheSnufflet for your progesterone thoughts! Maybe I'm in the didn't really need it category. I've stopped cold turkey as advised at 8 weeks and no spotting etc to report!

TheSnufflet · 13/01/2022 17:59

@paintfairy AFAIK it's not just low progesterone that causes spotting (a lot of people still have bleeds even with supplementary progesterone), but some people are just prone to it or are particularly vascular about the cervix. I've heard SCHs are more common with IVF too.
I've been on 800mg (which seems high?) I've got one more day of 800mg, then I've got enough to wean for 2 days of 400mg, then a final day of 200mg then that will be me done. I can't wait tbh!

strawberrysummer19 · 13/01/2022 18:55

Me too been using this pessaries for what seems like a lifetime!! Be nice ( and strange ) not to remember to do them 3 times a day!
