i'm 39 weeks and feeling crampy, i haven't had any cramps this pregnancy so hoping it's a good sign! i have lost my appetite (and i'm always hungry Grin) so just wondered what were everyone signs hours/days before they went into labour? Smile

@Butterflyy20 following as I'm 38+5 and am so ready to have this baby already! FTM here so this is all very new to me 😁 x

Literally none. I was reading into everything but I don’t think I had any signs.
DS - waters broke at 40+1
DD - contractions woke me up just after midnight on her due date

DoesHePlayTheFiddle · 22/10/2021 14:39

I wanted a Carlsberg Special. I don't normally drink and hadn't throughout the pregnancy. Drank half a can around 9pm, gave birth 12 hours later.

stormelf · 22/10/2021 14:55

With DD I was sick after eating lunch and just wanted to sleep the whole day. My waters broke at midnight and she was born at 7pm

With Ds absolutely no sign. Woke up feeling fine on his due date, had first contraction at 8.45am, he was born before 11am

Luckytattie · 22/10/2021 14:57

I think a dull backache and also the runs as well Blush

Sweetsaremyfave · 22/10/2021 15:01

I’m 40+1 and have been getting period pains and back ache for 2 weeks. Midwife said it’s my body preparing. My DD m1 was born on her due date, waters broke then she was born 7 hours later but no signs prior to waters breaking x

Shmithecat2 · 22/10/2021 15:03

My waters breaking. No sign whatsoever before that happened.

Pressure. Just pressure. I actually ended up here asking what it could possibly be (I've had no luck going to the toilet, ladies!) when a very kind woman told me to call the hospital because it sounded like I could be in labour and I was.

shepabear · 22/10/2021 15:22

I had felt really uncomfortable all evening, like the baby was sitting right on top of my cervix. Then at bedtime I started getting very gently cramps like period pain, but it came and went every few minutes. After an hour or so of this I finally twigged that they were very small contractions so rang the maternity unit at the hospital and was told to come in. Was checked out, told I was in early stages and sent home for a few hours until the contractions became a lot more frequent and painful. So maybe these cramps could be an early sign of labour for you.

FindingMeno · 22/10/2021 15:26

I puked Smile

iwantadogdhdoesnt · 22/10/2021 15:35

Didn't feel great, just felt off and craved ALL the carbs that day, massive appetite. Had an enormous chip butty and felt better. That evening stood up off couch, waters broke, baby born 6 hours later

Frazzledbutcalm · 22/10/2021 15:36

Nothing …. 4 times, nothing. With number 4 I had severe braxton hicks from 6 weeks before due - to the point where hospital said I was in labour - I knew I wasn’t but they insisted … 6 weeks+ later they had to induce me 😆
I think people think there’s been something but it’s just coincidence 🤷🏻‍♀️

firstimemamma · 22/10/2021 15:36

I had contractions in the evening (but nothing at all during the day) for the 4 evenings before the real deal.

KnobJockey · 22/10/2021 15:39

I went out for brunch the day before, then was sick for pretty much the rest of the day, plus on and off the loo. Not like food poisoning, but like there physically wasn't any room left in my body for anything but baby. Cried all day too. Went into labour overnight that night

I had no signs at all until the first contraction.

Gizmo98765 · 22/10/2021 15:48

I would say nothing specific really. I just felt a bit off and felt like a day at home (where I had been very busy throughout my pregnancy with PFB 17 years ago). The midwife called round and tested my wee sample and said their was blood in it and said she thought I was going into labour. Then within a few hours labour started it felt like period pain and I had a few strange twinges and little pains in my tummy and in my back this started around lunch time on the 17th and I didn’t have my baby until about 3am on the 19th.

Gizmo98765 · 22/10/2021 15:50

I meant to say my waters never broke with either of my DC I was worried about it happening somewhere and being embarrassed but it never stopped me venturing here there and everywhere. They broke them in hospital.

From about 5 days beforehand I had a lot of pelvic pressure and an achey stomach.
On the Sunday morning I lost my mucus plug, on the Monday I had diarrhoea, by the Tuesday lunchtime I was having contractions about 7 mins apart (definitely contractions rather than BH but not massively painful). These contractions lasted until the evening and then died off. Waters broke that night at about 1am and then contractions started a couple of hours later, much more intense and regular than the day before. Was in active labour (5cm) by 8am and DS was born at 10:30am that day (Wednesday)

Lizbiz89 · 22/10/2021 16:38

Nothing really. I kept looking for signs but it wasn't until my contractions started that I knew I was in labour. Saying that I didn't even realise I was in full labour with my son until about an hour before I had him. Contractions were up and down all day and very weak. Only got to the birth centre just in time to push 😂.

mrsbitaly · 22/10/2021 16:44

Light period like pain initially that went on for hours and hours and got stronger as the day went on. It started at 4.20am for me and I gave birth at 7pm.

Gizmo98765 · 22/10/2021 18:09

Yes a lot like period pain. I remembered some old yoga breathing from over 15 years before. As the contractions came I tried to breathe through each one to try and keep myself calm and keep some sort of control over the proceedings. When each one had passed I thought to myself thats another step closer to holding my baby.
