Freaking out, bleeding at 12 weeks

Just started bleeding,I was supposed to be having my 12 week scan on Tuesday.
I went for a number 2, I guess I pushed pretty hard (sorry if TMI) but I've got bright red blood, couple of table spoons. Nothing inside the blood. I'm so scared 😭😭😭😭😭
What shall I do? Can I ring anyone now?

I actually had the same thing today , although I'm only 6/7 weeks. I was straining for a bowel movement , then I haa bright red blood from my vagina. I was so worried I paid for an early scan , and everything was fine thankfully. I read up that can be quite comment to happen after bowel movnets in pregnancy, but maybe contact 111 or your gp to see what they say @rttcbabyno1

FreeBritnee · 16/10/2021 20:05

Are you sure it’s coming from your vagina?

rttcbabyno1 · 16/10/2021 20:09

I'm so upset 😭 he's definitely coming from vagina. Do I ring the midwife? I have no idea x

Call your maternity department or midwife, whichever you've been told to call if you need to speak to someone straight away.

Scirocco · 16/10/2021 20:13

With a couple of table spoons' worth, I'd advise contacting someone - either your maternity unit, midwife or OOH.

Glassofshloer · 16/10/2021 20:15

Yes, phone the triage - if only to put your mind at rest. Good luck Flowers

Derbee · 16/10/2021 20:32

I had this, and everything was fine. It was more blood than you’ve described though. There’s really nothing anyone can do at this stage, but your EPU may offer you a scan for reassurance?

rttcbabyno1 · 16/10/2021 20:58

Thank you for your reassuring messages. Tried the midwife line, don't feel like I should bother my assigned midwife at this time of night? I'm currently on hold to 111, have been for a while now. Maybe two tablespoons was a bit of an exaggeration, it's difficult to tell when it's on the paper, it did seem like a lot, lots of toilet roll was used 😞 maybe a couple of teaspoons? I'm praying everything is ok, it took a really long time to conceive this baby 😭 I've already had 2 early scans due to pink discharge in the early weeks, one at 6 weeks and the other at 9 with a strong heartbeat. I thought I was in the all clear for Tuesday 😞😭💕

Do what you need to do to get reassurance. I was in a similar situation on Easter Saturday once and a brilliant midwife told me (off the record) that the ‘magic words’ for getting an urgent scan are ‘one-sided pain’. Thinking of you and offering a handhold and very unmumsnetty hug.

mummyh2016 · 16/10/2021 23:34

I don't think triage will see you until you're 16 weeks, it would be EPU but most are closed on weekends and with you having your 12 week scan on Tuesday anyway it's likely you will be told to wait which is shit Sad a friend of mine had a bleed at 10 weeks and they told her she had to wait for her 12 week scan so she ended up booking a private scan. Would you have that option if the hospital won't see you?

sarah13xx · 16/10/2021 23:39

I’ve heard this can happen when the sac baby is in comes away from the side slightly. I’ve heard of someone have it happen a few weeks after you and baby was totally fine 😊 try not to panic! Do you need an anti-d injection if you bleed? If so you should definitely go in for one. There should bea number for maternity assessment at your hospital that’s 24 hours a day

Pinkchocolate · 16/10/2021 23:47

I would call your Early Pregnancy Unit or out of hours midwife, 111 might even contact them did you. Try not to panic, I bled at 12 weeks, it was bright red and he’s currently a healthy 6 year old. You do need to be seen though to be sure. Good luck OP, hoping you get seen and all is ok.

Update... I've been to my local hospital in the urgent care place and been looked at by a few people.

They did a urine test, checked blood pressure etc, felt my belly for discomfort (which there wasn't any) then basically had a smear-like procedure where they looked at the neck of my cervix (or uterus?!) which they said was closed (which is good - open is bad), no infection in wee and from the swab they'd taken inside me. No more bleeding in the examination. He did see something called a ectropion which may or may not be the cause of my bleed, they are common in pregnant women apparently.

I have a follow up scan on Monday for them to rule out anything. I also have my 12 week apt on Tuesday.
So basically they don't seem alarmed by my bleed and we're quite reassuring 🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻
What a scary evening 😞 Monday isn't long to wait, will just have to hold myself together till then and think of the positives 💕🤞🏻

Thank you for all your messages, I appreciate every single one of them 💕. Hoping that everything is fine, it only seems like good news so far. It sounds like bleeding in pregnancy is pretty common, more common than I thought. So very scary!! Xx

It’s very scary! But also very normal. Glad everything looked good.

octoberfarm · 17/10/2021 03:12

I had a bleed a bit like this at 13/14 weeks - also just when I thought I was in the clear! Just wanted to say that my now three year old little boy is sleeping in the room next door to me, healthy and happy. It isn't always bad news. I really hope everything works out for you Thanks

SirusTheVirus · 17/10/2021 03:18

After sailing through my first three pregnancies I had a simile bleed with my 4th at 11 weeks.

My EPU wouldn’t do anything and said I had to wait for my 12 week scan so I understand your worry.

My son is 12 tomorrow Smile

Sending love and best wishes, Monday will be here before you know it.

I had a huge bleed, clots, lasted 6-7 weeks as slowly stopping snd changing to brown and black 'old' blood. Baby was fine, she's 13 now. I also bled at 6-7 weeks with her also - consultant said it's common to bleed and to try not to worry (of course I did worry!)
Good luck

mummyh2016 · 17/10/2021 15:03

Glad you managed to get seen by someone OP and good luck for tomorrow!

rttcbabyno1 · 17/10/2021 16:43

Aww such lovely positive stories again, I'm praying mine has a happy ending too 💕 . Thank you for all your well wishes, I'm feeling nervous but trying to focus on the positives that the doctor/nurse was telling me last night 💕
No more bleeding today just a little pink when I wipe, dark pink if that makes a difference, nothing fresh. No pain again today 🤞🏻❤️

Update.... everything was fine!!!!! 💕💕💕❤️ baby was moving around and waving at us! We're over the moon!! They don't know where the blood came from, but looked at sac and around baby and couldn't see any signs of it being from them or the sac. Who knows... it's a mystery. I'm wondering if it was this ectropium that was mentioned, if so it could possibly happen again. All I care is that baby is ok, so emotional this morning ❤️❤️

Glassofshloer · 18/10/2021 11:56

Fantastic news! I had an ectropian once which caused some bleeding now and then. So pleased to hear baby is doing well Flowers

Derbee · 18/10/2021 14:03

Lovely news OP! Just remember that the chance of miscarriage now is very low. The chance of unexplained bleeding is much higher. So try and stay calm if it happens again (easier said than done!) it’s very stressful to have a pregnancy with bleeding, but it sounds much more common than we all think.

Pinkchocolate · 18/10/2021 23:00

Excellent news OP. I hope the rest of your pregnancy goes smoothly.
