3rd births

Hello!

Just wondering if anyone would be happy to share their 3rd birth stories (after my midwife reassuringly told me that 3rds are the trickiest!)

How many weeks were you when you went into labour- was your third the earliest?

What about length of labour- quicker/easier?

Wouldn't say I'm particularly anxious about the birth but some reassuring stories wouldn't go amiss 🙂

Currently pregnant with third so no words of wisdom but following with interest!

Have you heard the same re: difficult labours? When are you due?

Ummm. I will just be quiet I think 🤐

DramaAlpaca · 26/08/2021 22:56

If it helps, my midwife told me it was fourth births that can be tricky, not thirds.

I had DC3 at 39+2, same as DC1. I don't have quick labours but my third one was 5 hours. Previous labours were 21 hours and 12 hours. I had a home birth and it was very straightforward, easy even.

@IloveEB oh no! 🙈

@DramaAlpaca "easy" is definitely what I wanted to hear 😊 😂

Mine was fine. Not as fast as birth 2 but much more pleasant.

cornishrabbit · 26/08/2021 23:08

My third was the best one - not the quickest but definitely the most straightforward and I felt more in control and relaxed. Good luck

Eatenpig · 26/08/2021 23:16

Every one I know with 3 said last one was fast & easy. One was in the bath mind tho instead of water pool at home

SoupDragon · 26/08/2021 23:22

My third was the easiest! Bang on time and 9 hours from the first twinge to the birth.

Oodlesofdoodlescockapoodles · 26/08/2021 23:23

Well this thread has been very reassuring so far 😊 very glad I posted!

My third was ridiculously easy. I thought I had Braxton Hicks as I'd felt pain on and off all day. Nothing awful - just grumbling. At about 5.30 it started to get a bit worse and my sister (a midwife) said she thought I should just see what was happening. So she drove me to the hospital - I moaned all the way that she was being dramatic.
I should say I was three weeks early!!
I got there and I was 7cm dilated!!!

So I called my OH and swore a bit and told him to hurry up and come.
I was still at this point thinking I'm three weeks early - I've done nothing - I haven't even washed up!
So they broke my waters - OH arrived and about 10 minutes of pushing and she was out.
And it was about 7.30pm. So I cuddled her all night. Had frosties for breakfast and stared at her for hours.
Then they made me leave!!
And since then it's been manic and I've barely sat down!
She is now 14 and late for everything!!

My third was by far the quickest and easiest. He was two weeks late though which I wasn’t expecting as the others were on time and a week early so I thought he’d never turn up. He was born at home in a pool and it was 6 hours - half the time of my two earlier births.

AllTheSingleLadiess · 26/08/2021 23:32

My mum and I both had really fast and easy third births.

In my case there was half an hour between first contraction and holding him where as his siblings took 6 hours and 5.5 hours.

I had a lot of Braxton Hicks with dc3 unlike dc2 and dc2 but to summarize the birth was so fast that there was no time for a water birth like I'd planned. I was very lucky that it happened at the weekend so that my h at the time was around.

Paperyfish · 26/08/2021 23:36

1st: shockingly bad, forceps, 3rd degree tears, the lot
2nd: lengthy but not bad
3rd: chilled and best of the lot
4th: agony, but quick recovery!

Nikki360 · 26/08/2021 23:47

My third and last birth was quick but intense !

Winceybincey · 26/08/2021 23:56

I’ll go against the grain here. My first was like most firsts, long, painful, complicated.

2nd I was induced. Had the pessary at 16:30, started having pains at 10:30pm, was born at 1am. Super fast and easy.

My 3rd, I was in slow labour for 2 weeks, went in to have my waters broke to get it moving. It didn’t. Baby’s heart rate kept going too high whenever I was examined and stayed high for too long so I was prepped for a section, but heart rate came down and didn’t go back up again. 5 hours after having waters broken - still no progress so was put on the drip. Every doctor and midwife that came in told me the exact same, that 3rd babies are naughty. I must of heard it about 10 times that day.

Baby finally came 14 hours after having my waters broken. I had the epidural due to the drip so couldn’t say if it was painful for hours and hours. Only a second degree tear though.

He was also my most difficult baby after birth, the other two were easy going.

Don’t mean to scare you but others have posted that their births were great and fast and those comments out number mine :) so it’s in your favour!

EarringsandLipstick · 27/08/2021 00:03

Well, my 3rd was a fast labour .... that's the good news ... but brutal & the most painful ... sorry 😬

But all births are different so it really doesn't matter!

In contrast my first was straight-forward, 3+ weeks early, no real pain relief, delivered 3 hours after getting to hospital - so bucking a lot of the 'first birth' trends.
No way to tell!

Babyfg · 27/08/2021 00:20

My third was amazing! 45 mins, no tears or stitches. Did it all on gas and air. Honestly perfect (as far as birth can be). My second was an hour and 15 but so intense and I'm sure a million times more painful (I remember screaming yank her out as I couldn't take the pain!) . With my third I was waiting for it to ramp up like my second but it never did.

He was a week later than my other two but still a day before his due date.

Peacefulspirit · 27/08/2021 00:37

3rd was my favourite too. All 4 have been pretty lovely but 3 was just right, if he’d been a girl I should’ve called him Goldilocks 😝

Notashandyta · 27/08/2021 00:45

First and second- 39 weeks, 24hpur labours, nightmares....
3rd- 40+6 surprise homebirth in 4 hours. Best by far!

I read they're either terrible or stupid easy...

daisydalrymple · 27/08/2021 01:03

1st 11 days late, 14 hrs
2nd 5 days late, 7 hours
3rd 3.5 wks early, 1hr 15mins

timeisnotaline · 27/08/2021 01:07

I’m expecting not too hard, I’m mainly worried about too quick and getting to hospital! 1st was difficult, induced, 12 hours labour, drip, 3rd degree tear and retained placenta. 2nd was 6 hours no intervention. So I don’t want 3rd to be 3 hours Grin
Good to be reminded it may not be that straightforward though.

starsinyourpies · 27/08/2021 01:09

Plus side: came earlier than the others, Labour pain much easier to manage

Downside: ended in my first c section and recovery from hell.

Good luck!

CallieOpie · 27/08/2021 01:11

My 3rd was super easy. First was the worst! 2nd and 3rd both nice and straightforward and essentially quite pleasant experiences. Best of luck OP, hope yours is the same Flowers
