Hey ladies, thought I'd start a thread for all us mamas due October 2021! Whether you're on your first or your tenth child, let's share our journey together!

My due date is officially 8th October and this is my second baby girl πŸ’œ My DD is 15 months old so I'm gonna have two under two.. god help me πŸ™‰
I'm actually booked in for an elective section this time (reason being is that I have low grade rectocele prolapse and I'm petrified that another vaginal birth will make it worse) my first labour was 4.5 hours from start of initial contractions to birthing her - textbook waterbirth on paper pretty much. I am however starting to reconsider my decision and go for my original plan of a homebirth. DH has just landed a new job only 15 mins away so it changes a lot. Any other ladies looking to try for a homebirth? I know for me personally it takes a lot of the strain off finding childcare, given how quickly I laboured first time round!

Cant wait to hear your stories and share these last few months of our pregnancies with each other! ❀

@Juicytoot287 I'm the same with the planning, although to be fair maybe the more controlled nature of an ELCS would suit me better than waiting for labour to start naturally πŸ˜‚

Yeah if it helps, my friend has had a very straightforward recovery, she's back driving and feeling really well at 3 weeks post partum. No complications, she didn't even realise they'd started the operation until they told her, baby breastfed well straight away and she showed me her scar which is pretty small! She said she would have another ELCS if she has another child in the future. I felt quite gutted about the prospect at first but the more I think about it, I'm gradually becoming more at peace with it. I just want to know if that's definitely the route we're going down and if so when my little boy's birthday will be οΏΌ

@Peacefulspirit that's a lovely idea! I too am trying to enjoy the time DH and I have left as just us 2 before baby comes along. We've been squeezing in some nice meals out together which has been lovely. I hope your sister is well, what a trooper she must be! Have a lovely day wig shopping with her Smile

MyGrassIsBrowner · 27/09/2021 09:08

@mooloop @Juicytoot287 hope you both get some clarity on the breech baby situation! Fingers crossed for you both 🀞 remember, still time for them to turn yet so dont get too disheartened.

@Peacefulspirit
Wish I could be as chilled as you lol! I've woken this morning feeling truly 'off' is best way to describe it. I've also had a clearout AND got some major pressure going on down in my pelvis. Starting to panic that I may not make it to my planned Section date Monday coming, so me and DP have contingency plans in place in case anything kicks off. With me having a 4.5 hour labour with my DD I want to get to hospital as quickly as possible!! πŸ™ˆ
The only thing that has perked me up this morning is ASOS is having a massive sale so gonna treat myself to a few bits!
Hope we're all good this morning! And you're right Peaceful, we're nearly in October now!! I can't wait to start seeing some babies soon and hearing your birth stories! ❀

@Peacefulspirit Oh my god your sister, what an amazing girl! Enjoy the wig shopping. I'd love to change my hair daily haha!! X

@Peacefulspirit think that's a beautiful way to be! I'm in no hurry for my one to come out tbh, I absolutely love being snuggled up and feeling it dancing around in there, will miss that extraordinary sensation.

I have started doing a breathing exercise called Nadi Shodhana for a few mins in the morning, it's super easy to do and calms the nervous system. Essentially breathing rhythmically through different nostrils pin.it/1EG9982 then I do a 20 min meditation after that but that might be overkill for some people.

I'm also drinking a glass of beetroot juice before my midwife appointments to reduce blood pressure, will see if it works!

Xx

I actually convinced myself when I got my due date that I would go earlier this time and it would be a September baby rather than an Oct baby (EDD 07/10). Which is now looking v unlikely! It's funny because with my first I convinced myself I would be v overdue and be induced, which was also incorrect as I went spontaneously at 39+6 and DD born at 40. I was so surprised to find myself in labour last time Grin. Knowing my luck it will be the other way around and I will be dead late this time or something!! I've had tons of discharge and baby being engaged and stuff for a few weeks already but no sign of them wanting to exit Grin.

@Peacefulspirit sorry to hear about sister having chemo, what a difficult time for you all. I hope she's doing as well as poss and hope the wig shopping goes well. Self-care is a great idea, mine mostly just consists of eating lots of chocolate/cake/ice cream every evening on the sofa whilst DD is in bed...not sure if that's self-care or self-harm though Wink !? I'm planning a nice bubble bath for when she's in nursery tomorrow though. She doesn't have a temp anymore so it's looking like she will be well enough to go in phew.

I can't remember who on the page before said their midwife doesn't explain things but mine is the same. My community midwife in my first pregnancy was amazing but this one just seems to rush everything and never gives me any info, if I ask a question she will answer but that's it. With this being my second, the fact that I have the educational background and resources (internet etc) to find things out myself and my DH being a HCP means I can get most info myself from reputable sources anyway but I worry about other people who aren't in that position. For example she never mentioned perineal massage or colostrum harvesting to me, I had to ask for the colostrum harvesting syringe pack myself, she basically refused to refer me to physio and said there's nothing that can be done about PGP, I had to push for my own mental health team referral, she documented we discussed IOL at our last appt and I declined to set a date for 41 which is true but she didn't give me any info whatsoever, I explained my reasoning very briefly from what I'd read and she just went 'thats fine so long as you know the risks' which I hadn't fully explained anyway so not sure how that is acceptable really as she didn't go through all the risk/benefit thing with me. I'm sure it's because she's probably so pushed for time all the time but it's just a sad situation isn't it for antenatal care.

MyGrassIsBrowner · 27/09/2021 10:38

I honestly feel so bad for you ladies having a shit time of it with your midwives. I find it all daunting again and I'm on baby no.2, being a FTM is like being a rabbit in headlights.
I'll be honest my care has been great from my community midwives (helped by the fact that their building is based on my street) so if I'm worried they always suggest I just call and pop in if need be. It was a bit of a shit show when I initially asked about having an elective section but once they realised I wasn't taking no for an answer they backed off and have been nothing but helpful thus far. Barring the daft MW who asked me if I was sure I wanted to still consider a homebirth πŸ˜†
The only thing I have been totally pissed off at is the fact that not only one, but a few midwives I have mentioned my rectocele prolapse to, have asked me what it is! That's been a bit of a shocker tbh. I feel like a lot of the time these issues aren't addressed properly and it's seen as part and parcel of giving birth but that isn't right.
The midwife I spoke to yesterday mentioned about corrective surgery for my prolapse but I had to but in and say well yeah that's all well and good, if I've absolutely decided this is my last child and I have no idea how I'll feel in a few years time so dont want to dissmiss it just yet.

Morning All!! Can you believe it’s Oct this week!! Babies will be starting to arrive so soon 😍

@Peacefulspirit thats a lovely way to look at it, embracing every day.
I’m feeling a bit moody/tried today and all weekend, just at that stage now where I’m over pregnancy. I do feel for you ladies with PGP and coping! I dunno how you do it.
Ive got a few midwife appointments this week and scan so I’m hoping it’ll go quick and it’s another week down! Next week I’m officially on maternity and I literally can not wait!! I think I’ll be able to chill and relax and be in a better moody once I know I’ve finished work.

@MyGrassIsBrowner I think your little one will be the first to arrive won’t it? This time next week 😬 hopefully it stays put till then!

It’s not great some of you ladies having such a hard time with your midwifes, you’d think they’d be giving you the information you need!
I can’t really fault the care so far I’ve received, they’ve all been so lovely and informative. Luckily I’ve had the same community midwife the whole way through. I’m normally such a control freak and a bit anxious but considering it’s my first I feel very chilled about it all. I just keep thinking, what will be will be, baby has to come out πŸ˜‚

Ladies that are due end of Oct how you feeling? @mooloop I think we’re the same week? Im currently 35+4 I keep thinking I’m going to go early πŸ™ˆ I don’t know why but I’m getting feelings they’re going to arrive! I’ve carried low most of my pregnancy but the pressure now feels like it could drop at any time! And I’m getting a few pains under my bump, but I dunno if that’s just the way baby is lying πŸ€·πŸΌβ€β™€οΈ

mooloop · 27/09/2021 11:45

@NW2021 I've been getting some random pains at the bottom of my bump too, but hoping he's staying out for now since he's breech πŸ˜‚ I'm due 30/10 so 35+2 today! Definitely feeling achey, tired, breathless and my heartburn is insane, but compared to what some ladies on here are coping with I definitely shouldn't complain πŸ™ˆ

Feeling the nesting urge strongly lately too! Baby's bedside crib was just delivered this morning and the carpet has been fitted in the nursery. My dad is coming to wallpaper the nursery on Wednesday and then I just need to nag DH to build the furniture so I can put all of baby's tiny little clothes away Grin

Juicytoot287 · 27/09/2021 11:55

@NW2021 you have my due date i think! haha. But i am opposite, still carrying really high so heart burn and lung capacity is my weakness.

with you on nesting @mooloop . Crib is built and all bits out the boxes. Just to work out how to fix a bloody isofix into the car πŸ™ˆπŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

I am jealous of your antenatal care ladies. Luckily I am quite switched on but if I wasnt I wouldnt have got my flu jab , whooping cough, matb1 form. I initiate everything :(

Loving the self care ideas because current mine is chocolate so keep the better ones coming!!

NW2021 · 27/09/2021 11:57

@mooloop that makes me feel ok then, must be normal pains! πŸ˜‚ I’m guessing just pressure and general pregnancy aches and pains. I hope the little one decides to move for you!! I think if I had a breech baby I’d just go straight for an elected c section, just personally so I didn’t have all the worry.

I feel exactly the same!! But don’t wanna complain to much because I know compared to what some of you ladies are going through its nothing!

Sounds like you’re on the ball with everything! No nesting urges for me at the moment, far from it πŸ˜‚ I’m too knackered to care at the moment. We’re all pretty much set though, just need to put up the next to me crib and get the isofix in the car. Ooo and I’ve got a pile of clean washing on the floor of the babies room that needs putting away πŸ˜‚ (been there for 3 days, I’ve just shut the door and forget about it)

I’m hoping once I’ve finished work I’ll get in the zone and tidy everything ready for the arrival!

mooloop · 27/09/2021 11:58

Gosh @Juicytoot287 that's terrible that they haven't even initiated about your MATB1! I've seen a few different midwives and although they're all nice, my actual names midwife is much more helpful/informative than the others. Hoping she's there again at my next appt!

NW2021 · 27/09/2021 12:02

@Juicytoot287 I knew there was someone same time as me πŸ₯°

How you feeling? Baby never seems to go that high up on me, only thing I’m getting is the kicks in the side or ribs but I’m quite tall (5.11) so I think it’s helped with space for baby although it just loves being so low πŸ˜‚ I keep saying it loves chilling in its hammock. I do wonder if it’s transverse to be honest, I’ll find out on Friday! Scan booked to check the growth after Covid.

Juicytoot287 · 27/09/2021 12:09

@NW2021 Yea most my kicks are on my side besides the bulging headbut in the ribs sometimes. Perks of breech i suppose aha. Feels very strange hearing all the other ladies mentioning labour imminently being full term - the end of october still feels quite far away!

And yes the antenatal care seems very much, blood pressure and measure then leave. Which is a shame as even the NHS website says it should be discussing things. At least for me the impact is minimal as I have been quite switched on but i do feel bad for other mums. They may end up without these vaccines they should be getting and what not!

MyGrassIsBrowner · 27/09/2021 12:46

@NW2021 I could quite possibly be first to go tbh with me being booked in for my elective but it really could go anyway for us all haha!!!
I feel different today, my bump hurts a lot and I've been having a few aches I remember having in early labour with my DD 😳 it could just be general aches and pains but I'm a little on edge now I must say.
DP is having a shite time at his new job atm and I feel so terrible for him as he's had everything to deal with and worry about. There's a job at another big hotel within 10 mins of us and tbh the role is more up his street and likely more money, I've told him to throw caution to the wind and apply for it.
We're also dealing with the bloody car atm but thankfully he's got a mechanic on it today at his work. All the brake pads needed replacing and apparently the front suspension was totally fucked so getting the springs replaced too. My dad kindly gave us the money for all the parts which is amazing cause I genuinely dont know how we would have afforded it.

Everything will be so much easier when this baby is earthside and I am on the road to recovery. I am tempted to try some nipple stimulation tbh in hope to get her moving faster.. kind of at my wits end now waiting lol.

Chameleon2021 · 27/09/2021 13:48

Im still here too, 38+3 and having my section on Thurs. Pre op is tomorrow so will let you know what happens during it 😬

I'm so tired. Literally dis school run and went back to bed and just got up!! Trying to make the most of appreciating these last few days. Its lovely not having the am I in labour anxiety I must say. Makes it much more enjoyable.

My midwife is also rubbish.. Literally ni point in seeing her. I initiated everything from start to finish, but it's over and done with now and we're healthy so that's all that matters.

Just off to pick up a few treats for my daughter to give the baby. A baby grow, jellycat bunny, Sophie giraffe and I'm getting one of those handheld John Lewis fans for the ward! Exciting. Then into self isolation from tomorrow!!!

MyGrassIsBrowner · 27/09/2021 13:57

@Chameleon2021 ahhh wow can't wait to hear how it goes, good luck lovely!!! πŸ₯° bet you're so excited! Is this your first section? X

Anynamenottakenplease · 27/09/2021 16:38

@Chameleon2021 I have my pre op tomorrow and my c section on Thursday afternoon too! Hope you are more organised than me! I don’t finish work until Wednesday evening which only leaves me a few hours to get prepared all the stuff I didn’t manage to at the weekend Confused

Peacefulspirit · 27/09/2021 16:41

Oooh 2 babies coming on Thursday, so wonderful. Love to you both x

Chameleon2021 · 28/09/2021 09:51

School wouldn't let me in after 27 weeks and I really didn't want to do online learning again πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚ I'm going to top up next year with tutoring and do some exam marking to tide us over.

At the hospital now waiting for the doctors and blood tests etc. 2 sleeps to go!

How is everyone feeling?
