Hey ladies, thought I'd start a thread for all us mamas due October 2021! Whether you're on your first or your tenth child, let's share our journey together!

My due date is officially 8th October and this is my second baby girl πŸ’œ My DD is 15 months old so I'm gonna have two under two.. god help me πŸ™‰
I'm actually booked in for an elective section this time (reason being is that I have low grade rectocele prolapse and I'm petrified that another vaginal birth will make it worse) my first labour was 4.5 hours from start of initial contractions to birthing her - textbook waterbirth on paper pretty much. I am however starting to reconsider my decision and go for my original plan of a homebirth. DH has just landed a new job only 15 mins away so it changes a lot. Any other ladies looking to try for a homebirth? I know for me personally it takes a lot of the strain off finding childcare, given how quickly I laboured first time round!

Cant wait to hear your stories and share these last few months of our pregnancies with each other! ❀

@MeadowHay No you're totally right though! I know some trusts would recommend ELCS if baby is predicted to be big and mum would struggle to birth naturally though. But like you say I think it varies by trust. It's like some trusts will do electives from 38 weeks but my hospital say from 39 weeks and wont do it any earlier unless medically necessary. I'll be 39+4 when I have mine and to be honest I wouldn't want baby to potentially have a stint in NICU by evicting her too early.

Thats brilliant that the isofix came back in stock though, what are the chances eh?!
It'll definitely be possible to give the pram a good go over yourselves! Maybe try and hire a vax machine for the fabrics? I'm sure there are loads of videos on Youtube you could find of pram cleaning as well!

Does your hospital have an MLU? I would certainly recommend them it's an experience in itself to be honest.

Totally off topic! But I am getting lightening crotch, like shooting pains in my vagina. Is this normal? It feels really achy as well around there x

MyGrassIsBrowner · 02/09/2021 21:25

@summerhillgang fanny daggers! 😁 sadly, totally normal haha!! They do catch you in your stride sometimes though. As for the achyness that could well be bubs getting engaged, there's heaps more pressure around there when they do. X

OP posts:
summerhillgang · 02/09/2021 21:33

@MyGrassIsBrowner phew glad it's normal. I defo feel like baby is getting closer and closer. I am feeling nervous now! X

Peacefulspirit · 02/09/2021 21:34

Oh yes I remember the fanny daggers…not had them yet but head yet to engage so something to look forward to 😳

Peacefulspirit · 02/09/2021 21:35

I’m definitely feeling nervous/excited now, for the first time in the whole pregnancy.

MyGrassIsBrowner · 02/09/2021 22:15

It's the random ones in my butt that used to get me πŸ˜‚
We're on the last leg now ladies, not long for us at all. I've literally no idea where August went! 😳

Morning everyone,

excellent news about the isofix as I know that was a stress @MeadowHay ! But also agree that hiring a vax probably makes your life easier for fabric side of things and I know B and Q usually have them to hire out from inside the store.

Growth scan is later today and officially returned to work yesterday. Is anyone else going to work? Heard some horrific stories of women with covid on ventilators and babies in NICU yesterday. Obviously everyone tells you the worst things haha but I am double vaccinated and work are agreeing a flexible approach - some days in some days wfh. Just curious if anyone else is going in and how they feel?

Will update on the scan later, going to hope work takes my mind off of it and I don't think about it until I am lay on the bed :)

MyGrassIsBrowner · 03/09/2021 08:58

How far along are you? @Juicytoot287 Good luck with you scan today, rest assured everything will be absolutely fine! It's usually the case!
I can't help you on the returning to work front I'm afraid as I'm a SAHM but my god when does your mat leave start? I couldn't imagine going to work at this point in my pregnancy, but then again I've had it rough this time. Good that your work is being flexible though!

OP posts:
Peacefulspirit · 03/09/2021 09:03

Good luck today @Juicytoot287 please keep us posted. I’m still doing some front facing shifts. Not many, sort of phasing myself out! X

summerhillgang · 03/09/2021 09:05

@Juicytoot287 good luck with the scan, I'd built up in my head mine was going to be a big baby but actually turned out to be 35% percentile on my last growth scan, which everyone was happy with.

Sending you back to work strength. I'm personally on mat leave and single vaxed for now. I think I'd feel more confident to do much better stuff if I was double vaxed but I got it quite late and timings don't work out for second dosage during pregnancy so will have it after. I think there will be lots of bugs going round generally not just covid. I guess just follow all the precautions you can, do things that feed the immune system (ginger and turmeric shots from Moju are good), and if you catch a sense you're feeling ill then reach for the echinacea. It's safe in pregnancy. Whether it works against covid is unproven in the same way it's unproven that it works against flu and colds. Then other thing that works for bugs and I believe is ok in pregnancy is First Defence. I wonder if it a lot of the first term might be spent isolating anyway because of the app?

Xx

Peacefulspirit · 03/09/2021 09:06

Also if it helps, 87% of people who are admitted to hospital with Covid are not vaccinated. We have women who are on oxygen on delivery suite and are quite unwell, some of them have had to be delivered. None of them that I’ve seen have had the vaccine. I know it’s anecdotal but hopefully reassures your a bit x

MyGrassIsBrowner · 03/09/2021 10:05

Sadly I'm not jabbed. But I've been pretty much house bound since DD was born during the first lockdown. DP was furloughed as he works in hospitality. He's had his first jab but I'm having mine once baby is born. There have been women on oxygen on our maternity unit too but generally I think some of them have just been getting on with life, wereas I've limited contact with most people. I can probably count on both hands how many times I've been in a supermarket since... last MARCH! lol. I live a very sheltered life atm.
I did get very ill in December 2019 when I was pregnant with my DD, literally all the symptoms of Covid (I was totally bed ridden) and I'm still wondering to this day if I had Covid then. πŸ€” but guess I'll never know.

OP posts:
NW2021 · 03/09/2021 10:51

Hope everything goes ok today @Juicytoot287 🀍

I have to say I’m not jabbed either, will be once baby has arrived. I’ve been back in the office working since February, I did stop seeing clients face to face in July when the restrictions stopped just as an extra precaution but still come the office and go out on lunch to shops etc. I still wear a mask just to be cautious.
I know mutual friends that have had Covid whilst pregnant and been fine but of course as the other ladies said there is higher risks etc.
I’m personally not particularly worried at the moment (I was in July when the restrictions stopped) but since then I’ve been to weddings/out for meals etc and felt safe. I do take lateral flows every couple of days.

I’ve got a few plans between now and end of Oct but plan to not really go out once Oct arrives and I start maternity, but that’s more because I can’t be arsed seeing any one and just want to chill before baby arrives πŸ˜‚ xx

MyGrassIsBrowner · 03/09/2021 12:44

@NW2021 I do think some people are just lucky and haven't caught it. I think it's total pot luck myself. My sister had it but she works in a Pharmacy and one of her colleagues had it, wasn't presenting symptoms (this was before LFTs) then spread it to everyone in the Pharmacy. Sis ended up quite unwell with it and her taste/smell intermittently comes and goes still to this day. She's double jabbed now but has found she's been getting more illnesses and has just got over a bout of Tonsillitis, but then get this, her partner (living with her) didnt get it at all and still hasnt caught it and he does factory work. Mad.

I'm just more concious of my DP getting it before my section, I have to isolate a few days before and take LFTs then a PCR when admitted, they said if he tests positive he wont be allowed with me. So I'll be on my own and although I'd have no choice I dont quite fancy that.

MeadowHay · 03/09/2021 14:33

@Juicytoot287 hope the scan goes well. I'm WFH but not because I'm worried about covid, I just much prefer it to working in an office with hardly anyone else in (because we are almost all allowed to WFH and almost everyone does so) and happily avoiding my one hour bus commute each way Grin. I only have 3 days of work next week though then on mat leave. But socially I'm living life pretty much normally and am not vaccinated, guess it depends on your risk profile and your attitude to risk more generally. The absolute risk of me getting seriously ill with covid is tiny and I don't worry about any other similar-sized absolute risks if that makes sense so not worried about this one either really. Will probably get vaccinated at some point after the birth but I'm even ambivalent about that tbh.

My baby clothes from George came today @MyGrassIsBrowner ! Starting to feel more real, DD was looking at them all and has been putting her baby dolls in the cardies and sleeping bags with my help haha.

My right ear feels a bit weird and sore hope I've not got an infection or getting unwell eek.

NW2021 · 03/09/2021 14:36

@MyGrassIsBrowner ooo yes definitely agree its got to be luck some people haven’t caught it. I had the same conversation with a colleague, I feel very fortunate that I haven’t caught it (that I’m aware of), we were saying how crazy & random it is as to who gets Covid.

Very similar situation with a friend, her partner caught it, they live together, share a bed and she never caught it! So strange.
I’m still wearing a mask, not hugging people etc just being sensible.

Is there any way he could isolate a few days before with you? Or is he still in work? I would be the same, I’d hate to be on my own if he was to test positive! Hopefully he’ll be fine though!

MyGrassIsBrowner · 03/09/2021 15:47

@MeadowHay Oh my gaaaaawd that's super sweet. I bet your DD is getting so excited. You've just reminded me actually my parcel is ready to pick up from our local Asda!
I've had a strangely productive day today and got all of DDs newborn stuff in the wash and it's currently drying. Feel like I'm making headway with my hospital bag bits now. My PGP has been much easier today and somehow managed to get about a bit more than usual. But I'm not tempting fate cause I can almost guarantee tomorrow will be a TOTALLY different story. Hope you're not getting an ear infection love, there as bad as blumming tooth ache! Argh.

@NW2021 just so bizarre isn't it!!
Well hes general manager at a small family run boutique hotel so its quite easy for him to avoid people if he needs to but also he can work from home, the owners are very understanding so hopefully they'll let him work from home the few days up to me going in for my section.
I'm also wearing a mask when I go out, to be honest I dont mind them and frankly (touch wood) havent had any illnesses since wearing one!

Thanks everyone for wishing us luck -as expected the transverse baby worried me for nothing. Unfortunately back to breech at the moment so need her to move or section it will be.

Growth is spot on where she should be so all looking healthy and well! Feel so much relief for the weekend now! Breathhhhhhhhe.

MyGrassIsBrowner · 03/09/2021 16:47

@Juicytoot287 She's still got loaaaaaads of time to move! But I'm glad everything looks good!
I'm afraid to say you dont stop worrying about them even when they're out of the womb, little monkeys lol! If you do need a section, at least it can be pre-planned and give you some time to come to terms with it.
I'm really looking forward to mine now. 32 days left! πŸ™‰

Aww I'm so glad today went went @Juicytoot287 Smile baby still has plenty time to spin, fingers crossed!

MeadowHay · 03/09/2021 20:14

Glad the scan was fine @Juicytoot287 and there is loads of time for them still to turn. Plus if it comes down to it ELCS is very safe and can be a lovely birthing experience.

@MyGrassIsBrowner I'm glad you've had a better day, I'm the opposite my PGP has been particularly bad today and I'm with DD on Fridays so that's been tough. Sooo many awful tantrums from her today I am worn out and there's just toys everywhere but there is no way I can tidy up, struggling to walk atm. Sad will take some paracetamol before bed hopefully I won't have too bad a night of it eurgh. Also it's so nice seeing your excitement for your section date, I feel like I have a little bit of excitement creeping in but mostly still just nerves about it all!

summerhillgang · 04/09/2021 06:59

@Juicytoot287 so happy bubs is growing well! As others say there's time to turn. Acupuncturists can do something called moxibustion that encourages baby to turn at 36 weeks that is very effective. Swimming / breast stroke so you are crawling forward. And spinning babies moves.

@MyGrassIsBrowner 31 days to go!

@MeadowHay sorry to hear the PGP is flaring up, hope you can have some rest this weekend x

I have got my mum over this weekend, our lass time together before I become a mum. Her and her boyf bought some delicious premade food and cooked for us. It was a novelty being cooked for in my own home tbh! I was falling asleep by 9pm as didn't catch a nap. Lovely evening though.

Think we're going to inflate the birthing pool this weekend and test out the hose adapters etc.

I've booked some reflexology for 38 weeks to get things going - heard it can help.

MyGrassIsBrowner · 04/09/2021 09:54

@MeadowHay I totally feel you with the PGP. It's majorly debilitating. The Codeine has being helping me somewhat but that on top of my iron tablets.. I am now horrifically constipated so having to take Laxido to stop me turning myself inside out. Can't win!

@summerhillgang literally a month today til my section 😳 it feels so strange having an actual date planned for babies arrival. I'm just hoping my section goes as well as it can, so anxious about that I'll be honest. DP seems fairly unphased by it all at the moment (he's way more chill than me) but I reckon he'll be kacking it once we're in theatre πŸ˜‚

Sounds like you'll have a lovely weekend summer! We're going to see my dad tomorrow and he's fixing the handbrake on our car, it's decided to stop working fully so basically DP can drive the car without taking it off πŸ™ˆ fml.

Hello everyone! Not new to the thread but last commented on the first page I think! Just trying to catch up with the conversations. I know someone asked if anyone is still working - I am a secondary teacher and will be going in until the day before my planned section which at times is a worry but I am double jabbed.
My biggest concern is that my c section is booked for 39+5 despite me being under the pre term surveillance clinic! I’ve raised this with midwife and hoping it will be moved forward as I have no family that can get here quickly if I go into labour and have an 18 month old daughter!
Also got a growth scan on Monday as only grown 3 cm since 27 weeks (over 35 weeks now) but not too concerned as I had all this worry with first born and she was a decent size in the end. Phew feels good to get that all out - sorry for the long post!
