Hey ladies, thought I'd start a thread for all us mamas due October 2021! Whether you're on your first or your tenth child, let's share our journey together!

My due date is officially 8th October and this is my second baby girl πŸ’œ My DD is 15 months old so I'm gonna have two under two.. god help me πŸ™‰
I'm actually booked in for an elective section this time (reason being is that I have low grade rectocele prolapse and I'm petrified that another vaginal birth will make it worse) my first labour was 4.5 hours from start of initial contractions to birthing her - textbook waterbirth on paper pretty much. I am however starting to reconsider my decision and go for my original plan of a homebirth. DH has just landed a new job only 15 mins away so it changes a lot. Any other ladies looking to try for a homebirth? I know for me personally it takes a lot of the strain off finding childcare, given how quickly I laboured first time round!

Cant wait to hear your stories and share these last few months of our pregnancies with each other! ❀

@queenie273646 Oh I'll definitely be letting the midwife know how much pain I'm in! I've had to make a makeshift band for my bump with the baby wrap we have, it works to an extent but still just absolute agony when I walk, it's even effecting my calves and I woke up with an horrific trapped nerve the other night, literally screamed the place down and DP had to try and counteract it by pushing my foot up to stretch out the muscle. Neighbours must have thought I was being attacked 😳

@Juicytoot287 Yeah there can be potentially massive risks with transverse babies which currently isn't helping my anxiety lol. My main fear is going into spontaneous labour as I am so at peace with the prospect of a section now.

It's so nerve wracking as it's your first but horror stories you read on mumsnet dont happen that frequently, most ladies go on to have a fairly normal birth. My advice is just listen to your body! If you need pain relief, take it! It's most empowering I've ever felt giving birth. Xx

Ah sorry you're struggling @MyGrassIsBrowner could you make an appt with your GP to see if they can prescribe some stronger pain meds and/or refer you to physio? I know it's easier said than done but try not to worry about baby's position yet, it's still early, there's loads of time for them to move. My DD was transverse until about 35/36 weeks then she moved head down herself. This one was head down at the scan yesterday already but could still move back breech and back again if they fancy it as there's still enough space at this stage isn't there so they can still move about a lot.

You ladies all sound so organised I feel like we have a million things to do before this baby arrives and not enough time to do it Sad we are having a tough time atm as all 3 of us have colds (thanks nursery...!) and DD is in a settling in phase for the next room up at nursery and she's been once for a bit so far and she was apparently sooo upset and ever since has been saying she doesn't want to go to nursery and worrying about it and acting up at home, I feel so bad for her Sad she has another transition visit today for a bit then she's in the next room from next Tuesday. I dunno how to help her with the transition, I thought talking about it would help but that seems to make her more upset and worried and she starts shouting and crying and telling me to stop and just saying she doesn't want to go to that room so I dunno how to help her. She's been absolutely fine with all the other transitions so far but I guess now she's older she's more aware of everything so has a bigger capacity to worry. Sad

Going to get my whooping cough vaccination this PM finally. It's late by I guess better late than not at all. Also just a heads up if anyone is planning to get flu vaxx, I've already managed to book one online in September with my local Boots so I can get it free whilst am still pregnant Grin. Plus definitely wouldn't want to have flu just before/just after I have the baby.

summerhillgang · 19/08/2021 11:16

@MeadowHay thanks for the heads up about the flu vaccine! I've managed to get an appointment in September too. My midwife said she's very worried about how much flu will be going round this winter so it's defo good to have x

MyGrassIsBrowner · 19/08/2021 12:03

@MeadowHay I'm not even sure what they can prescribe you when you're pregnant it seems like the only thing you can take is paracetemol and I feel like I'd need a full box just to take the edge off πŸ˜†
I did ask my MW about physio but the usual (waiting lists) and then it's actually getting to my appointments. No childcare for my DD and I dont drive, DP works so I'm literally stuck at home atm. She did send me some exercises but that's all well and good, it's too agonising to actually do the exercises.. can't win! πŸ€¦πŸ»β€β™€οΈ

The midwife wasn't concerned at all by her position, I dont think they worry too much until 36 weeks which is when I'm booked in for a scan anyway, I think the worry is going into spontaneous labour when bubs is transverse as obv there's risk of cord prolapse.

So sorry your DD is having issues with transition at nursery, it must be so stressful for the poor lass. I so wish I could afford the nursery fees for my little one as it would do her good being around other toddlers but my god it's expensive so we're having to wait for the free hours. I cant even walk very far so it's not like I can get her out and about and that's whay I'm finding most frustrating. All my family live 40 mile away back in my hometown so sadly we're quite isolated atm.

Definitely worth getting the flu jab ladies, I've had my whooping cough vaccine and I should be able to get my flu jab through my GP soon. I never got it before I fell pregnant with my DD and I'll be honest touch wood I've not been ill at all this year! So I think I'll get it every year now going forward x

Hit a new low tonight. Macdonalds in bed shared with the dog.

Juicytoot287 · 19/08/2021 19:11

@summerhillgang This has made me laugh! I love it - sometime so necessary! What was the order, nugs or burgers?

Thanks for the heads up on flu jab, I usually get it at work so it skipped my mind but I will be mentioning it at my 31 weeks appt. Which is actually at 32 πŸ˜‚ stupid bank holidays

summerhillgang · 19/08/2021 19:28

Burger and nugs and milkshake! Although dog ate most the nugs... sometimes nothing else will do but maccies! @Juicytoot287

Peacefulspirit · 19/08/2021 22:51

Now I’m craving a fillet-o-fish 😭

MyGrassIsBrowner · 20/08/2021 12:18

Mmmmmmm maccys is literally like crack to me when I'm pregnant lol.
Ugh I'm so ready for this baby to be evicted now. I'm 33 weeks today and I genuinely don't know how I'm gonna get through the next 6 weeks until my section 😭
She must be having a growth spurt or something cause she's absolutely sapping my energy and I'm abnormally tired. My poor DP will be glad to be back at work I'm such a misery chops!

queenie273646 · 20/08/2021 13:35

McDonald's has been heaven to me during pregnancy I could happily eat one each day! With my dd I craved healthy food mostly fruit! This time all I want is chocolate and takeaways! Finally got over my cold but been sleeping so bad so I'm exhausted today , off to Wales on Sunday so hoping I get a lie in tomorrow.
@MyGrassIsBrowner defiantly push the midwife next week! Surely they can get you in earlier 4 days before seems abit late for a c section ! Start crying while your in there really put on how terrified you are , I hope she moves head down for you soon it must be torture the way she's lying.
@MeadowHay oh no it's so tough when they can't adjust I think it's been such a uo and down year my dd really struggled going back to nursery after lockdown last year because she was so used to being with us and she loved nursery! She'll be the same probably going back to school next month she struggled going back to school at first after the second lockdown, hopefully she'll start settling soon having a cold definitely won't be helping .

@summerhillgang the dog wouldn't of got a look in for the nuggets if it was me πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚ the amount of food I can eat is quite shocking during this pregnancy .
I just want to sleep for a week I've bought some more bits for my maternity bag today so feeling very organised , still waiting on my pram car seat etc, im hoping it won't be too much longer ! I think it should be here within the next few weeks fingers crossed. I think we are all feeling the joys of late pregnancy Now 😭 just another 9 weeks for me (I hope ) to go , I remember the last four weeks being the worst with my dd so I'm trying to prepare myself now for it.

queenie273646 · 20/08/2021 13:38

Also how many sleepsuits do people tend to buy I was thinking around 12-14 for up to one month and 0-3? And also maternity pads ? I've got a few packs in but I can't really remember how many I used the last time should I over buy these ?

Juicytoot287 · 20/08/2021 13:40

After a late night IKEA trip and building some draws, I gave in to the maccies trip! Had a cold fanta with some fries and was over the moon - until DP started stealing my fries πŸ˜‚
Had a flat pack morning and now off to the skip to get rid of a bunch of crap. I think my version of nesting is binning everything haha. Hate clutter.

If this energy zap is to come then I am not looking forward to it, been so nice being off work that I am dreading going back

MyGrassIsBrowner · 20/08/2021 13:51

@queenie273646 Ooooh have a lovely time away! Hope the weather isn't too miserable for you. Though I'm not complaining myself, I'm pining for Autumn now! I love it when the trees start turning.

My appointment is on Friday and I'll definitely be telling the MW how desperate I am now. I'll probably end up crying anyway, I'm a blood emotional wreck atm as it is!

You ladies sound so organised. I haven't even started packing my hospital bag yet and I probably should πŸ™ˆ
I have loads of maternity pads left over from my DD, about 3 packs off the really thick ones so I'll start off with those and then can always send DP out for more if needed. Will be interesting to see how different my bleeding is after a section to my birth with DD. I bled so heavily for weeks afterwards but I still put it down to the way the MW yanked my placenta out of me 😳
Also as for sleep suits I have about 15 0-3 months, it worked for me well with my DD. Some were usually in the wash, some drying then the rest dried and ready to put baby in if she messed up the one she was wearing

OP posts:
MeadowHay · 20/08/2021 14:34

I literally can't remember anything about how many sleepsuits we used or how many may pads I used etc and it was only 3 yrs ago! My fave mat pads initially were the massive Lil Lets ones and I didn't have any leaks at all. I've bought two 10 packs of them plus two 10 packs of their thinner ones for when the bleeding calms down a bit. I don't want to overbuy as space is really going to be at a premium in our house once all the baby stuff is out and now we have a car I can send DH out to buy me any bits easily if I need more stuff.

@MyGrassIsBrowner I have the energy zap too but tbh it started as I entered the third trimester this time. I didn't get it until about 34 weeks with my first but I have a much bigger bump this time and a lot less sleep and rest with DD so I guess that's why. And to think it's going to get worse when I'm up all hours in the night again soon eek!! @Juicytoot287 if this is your first then the energy zap probably won't come until later.

DD's second transition visit yesterday went much better phew so hopefully she will be fine when she goes to the next room on Tuesday. She seems much less worried about it now so that's good. Her key worker was nearly crying saying goodbye to her yesterday poor thing! Nursery staff are incredible the amazing work they do for such shite pay.

I've started packing my hospital bag purely to have somewhere to put the stuff because we've just got things everywhere in black sacks and all sorts atm! Only started packing bits and pieces for me and DH tho not the baby yet. We have friends coming to stay next weekend so I need to wait til after they've left before I can crack on and put the baby's clothes away and store everything properly as it will need to be in our spare room and my friend will be staying in there. Also DH and I are going out for dinner tomorrow with a few friends which will be the first time we've ever been out and not put DD to bed, my DM (who she's very close to and is minded by once a week) has agreed to babysit purely to have a go at putting her to bed because it will be her doing it if we miss a bedtime during labour. So fingers crossed that goes ok. We are literally going to be at a restaurant across the road so can get back easily if needed but I hope it goes ok or I will be worrying!

@queenie273646 ah both my pregnancies after my sickness calms down I just want to eat huge amounts of sweet stuff! It's so bad and I've put on quite a lot of weight this time with it Blush

summerhillgang · 20/08/2021 19:21

Junk food update: DH demanded we get a Chinese takeaway. I needed no persuasion. Prawn balls, spare ribs, chicken wings and duck pancakes plus other stuff 🀀

Juicytoot287 · 20/08/2021 21:17

I need to log off here or I will just become a giant take away with the temptation!!! craving chinese salt and pepper chips with curry sauce now..

MeadowHay · 21/08/2021 15:17

We are discussing a takeaway for tonight Blush. Not for much in and feeling uninspired about cooking. Also DH and I were meant to be going out for dinner with friends but it got cancelled because of a covid outbreak at the restaurant. And anyway I wouldnt have been able to go as am now self-isolating because DD had a high temperature this morning. We were notified yesterday that she was a contact of a covid positive case at nursery too so there is a realistic prospect that she may actually have it eek. She had a test this morning so just waiting for the results.

Just done a Boots order and ordered some nappies and multi-vitamin for the babe with it. Starting to feel a bit more real now I've started to buy bits and bobs.

queenie273646 · 21/08/2021 16:04

@MeadowHay oh no I hope she's ok! Hopefully won't be too long for the results . I'm currently in the car with dd and we are having a McDonalds I just needed the nuggets πŸ˜‚ already thinking about dinner tonight aswell. Going to get back and pack for tomorrow already decided we're going to the local farm tea rooms for a full english before we leave πŸ˜‚ we don't hve long left at all do we , I picked up a few more bits from boots yesterday im getting really excited can't wait for meet ds now, im starting to worry about labour though I think it's the waiting around for it to all of a sudden happen .

Juicytoot287 · 21/08/2021 19:43

Hope you are all OK @meadowHay , seems covid is impossible to avoid lately especially for little ones.

I keep having to talk myself out of the chinese idea - really am trying to stay healthy plus heart burn is back today so probably not wise anyhow.

We did an online free class today which was good and prompted us to book a full one as there was a discount until midnight. Just ordered some vests from Matalan too. Trying to start buying bits now which is making it very real! Mad to think that 20 weeks ago, we were all anxious and nervous for our 12 week mark. Feels like a lifetime ago, I feel like i will really miss feeling her in my tummy

summerhillgang · 22/08/2021 19:23

Hopefully I haven't inspired too much junk food eating this weekend, actually scrap that I do hope you've all indulged and treated yourselves!

How was everyone's weekend? I had my hypnobirthing course on Saturday morning and a breast feeding course today on Zoom so wiped out from learning. Somehow managed to book a baby first aid course over Zoom tomorrow ages ago (bad planning)... might have to rearrange that!

We also went to see a couple of houses. One absolute stinker and one amazing one!

DH has assembled and fitted the car seat and the pram is up. So I rewarded him with a day of Fifa and leaving him alone today lol (this is like the perfect day for him) xx

MyGrassIsBrowner · 24/08/2021 12:47

Hey ladies apologies for going quiet. Been having a real rough time of it. Babe is still transverse and her head is fully wedged in my hip. My PGP pain is making me totally miserable now, back to see midwife on Friday and I'm tempted to ask if there is a pregnancy band I can hire and some crutches for around the house.
How are you ladies doing?
Still haven't packed my hospital bag yet, I'm so unorganised. I have all intentions of making a start on it this weekend. I still need to buy big pants for after my section and a couple of nighties.
How far along are you ladies now? X

OP posts:
HedgerowRobin · 24/08/2021 14:19

Hi ladies - is it ok if I join? A bit late to the thread at nearly 31 weeks pregnant though and only just qualify as baby is due on 31st Oct!

@MyGrassIsBrowner how many weeks are you? My baby was transverse too at my 28 week growth scan with his head against my right hip and feet against the right hand side of my ribs so he’s completely doubled over and all on one side! I have started doing some exercises from spinning babies to try and get him to move and have got my gym ball set up and using regularly but don’t feel like he’s moved at all - dreading him getting more and more wedged as he gets bigger!

I have started throwing things in the direction of my hospital bag in the last week - this is my first baby so not sure when it’s normally advised that you have your hospital bag ready to go? Would also be interested in opinions from you all on how many clothes are needed for the first few months as not sure if I have too many or not enough, although haven’t had my baby shower yet so expecting that we’ll end up with a few more!

MeadowHay · 24/08/2021 14:29

@MyGrassIsBrowner ah deffo speak to the midwife. Honestly I would speak to the GP about pain relief too. Plenty of women with PGP take stronger painkillers, usually codeine based is the next line. I take codeine myself occasionally for migraines which has been okayed by the GP, had to last time as well. Have a look at the Pelvic Partnership charity website they have a helpline too and a FB support group. Mine hasn't actually been too bad the last few days thankfully apart from at night, my sleep is soo bad because of it, is yours? So shit but not that long to go for us so hopefully relief at the end of it!! I've started packing my hospital bag but only things for me and not baby yet. And we still have loads of things we need to buy for the baby and loads of jobs I want to get done in the house before they arrive, scary to think I'm term in about 3 weeks and also so disorganised!! Also just consumed with guilt about DD who had her first day in the next room at nursery today and was soo upset at drop off and the staff had to just grab her off me screaming "mummyyyy!" back at me Sad and I called them earlier and they basically said she'd been upset most the morning my poor little love Sad.

Welcome @HedgerowRobin Smile I think you're at the back of us all with your due date which makes sense being due at the end of the month! I am due the 7th with my second, I had my first on her due date so am anticipating going a bit sooner this time. Last time I didn't pack my hospital bag at all until I was about 36 or 37 weeks but with your first you have more time so you can blitz everything right at the end which is what we did and it was fine. Whereas now we have far more demands on our time with DD it's hard to get anything done so I am regretting not starting everything much sooner, I have soo much left to do and buy still! Clothes I really can't remember how much we had last time but am aiming for about two a day of everything for a week if that makes sense. So about 14 of everything give or take. We do have a tumble dryer though and a big supermarket a 5 min drive away so if we need more it's easy for us to wash or drive down and pick up some more. Although in your situation I would definitely wait until after the baby shower, you don't want too much stuff.

MyGrassIsBrowner · 24/08/2021 14:59

@MeadowHay Yeah I'm thinking some stronger pain relief is gonna be my next option tbh, I am really reluctant to go down that route and I've just been taking paracetemol here and there but fuck me, I literally cant get through the next 6 weeks in this state. I cry daily and dont even talk to me about struggling to sleep, I have a million pillows, try a million positions and still end up losing my shit as I'm so uncomfortable. I've been getting one single blocked nostril as well.. dont even ask! I'm a mere shell of a woman I was before getting pregnant again. I know it's sounds a bit drastic but it's literally how bad I feel.
Oh your poor DD, I cant even imagine how distressing that was for you. I'd have been an utter wreck. Hopefully she'll start making some little friends and enjoying her time there, before you know it she'll be saying is it time for nursery now mummy!! πŸ₯°
My DD is all of a sudden becoming very clingly, she was never a clingy baby but now she doesn't really leave my side which makes even washing the dishes difficult as she'll insist she wants to sit on my feet! And jesus if I leave the room and she can't see me, she loses her shit! I've got a little sass pants on my hands though and no doubt her sister is going to be the same πŸ˜†

@HedgerowRobin of course you are welcome to join lovely, and congratulations. How are you feeling? First baby is always so so exciting. My advice is go into it all with an open mind, dont put too much pressure on yourself to have your life in order cause once baby comes, any order is blown out the window! You just take each day as it comes.
I'd recommend more than anything, all in one sleep suits for the first few months, as many as you can get your hands on! I have around 20 now. Also, if anyone asks you what you'd like for you baby shower.. wipes and nappies! You just cannot get enough and not having to buy them is a massive weight off.
X

Hi, hope it's OK to join? I'm due my first baby on the 30th October, so a few weeks behind most of you!
