48
She thought she’d hit the menopause and threw a party
She built a bonfire and threw things like tampons and pads on it
Really celebrated leaving it all behind

Turned out she was pregnant-must have been her very last egg as she never had another period after that

I work with a woman who fell pregnant at 48! Gave birth at 49

FunnyWonder · 13/07/2021 09:42

I see some older on here, but personally the oldest person I know is ME!! I conceived at 44 and gave birth to DS2 at 45.

FunnyWonder · 13/07/2021 09:46

Just remembered, my mum knew a woman who gave birth to a daughter at 52. This was in the 1950s. Apparently the woman was delighted she would have someone to look after her in old age. Lovely ...

48 - healthy naturally conceived baby. I am 45 and have an almost 8 month old conceived naturally at 44 and a bit.

cookiecreampie · 13/07/2021 10:04

42

Sideofnoreturn · 13/07/2021 10:17

My great grandmother was an “old maid” and didn’t marry until she was 42, after her parents died. Her husband was 50. They then had 4 healthy sons born when she was 43, 44, 45 and 47! They were absolutely over the moon and both lived well into their 90s.

  1. Of course it's not old in terms of general lifespan, but for having dc, I don't think it's particularly unusual.
tintodeverano2 · 13/07/2021 13:20

There was a woman in my antenatal class that was 52/53. She had adult children in their thirties and then a surprise baby. She was a teen when she had the first though.

Onehotmess · 14/07/2021 21:35

SIL was 44

allfurcoatnoknickers · 14/07/2021 21:41
  1. Mum mum's best friend had a surprise 4th baby. Her eldest was 14.

50: Distant "auntie" she thought it was the menopause. It wasn't. Her other children were in their 20s!

My mum was almost 44 when I was born and I'm her only child.

mrsgrealish69 · 14/07/2021 22:04

IRL 41, 42 when baby born (well pretty sure natural but I guess you never really know someone’s circumstances)

Other than that a few celebrities- Cherie Blair was naturally pregnant at 45, Sue Radford (the mum from Britain’s biggest family) had her latest baby at 45.

I think Geri Halliwell was also pregnant at 44 and said it was natural conception.

I find these threads really interesting as there’s not actually a great deal of up-to-date stats on age and fertility

Gensola · 14/07/2021 22:06

My mum’s best friend had one daughter at 21 and was a single mum for years, then married at 45 when her daughter was grown up and now has two small babies she had at 49 and 51

CatherineAragon · 14/07/2021 22:08

45

Terrazzo · 14/07/2021 22:09

52!!! Friend’s mum. Kid now 18.

goldenrachita · 25/10/2021 00:14

@Helbelle75 are you me???😆 I'm also 46 with children born when I was 41 and 44, and like the idea of another!

I think the oldest naturally conceiving mother I know personally was 45, but I've heard of others older including a first baby in late 40s.

Ganesh2022 · 06/10/2022 08:53

Reviving this...lol...46; someone who conceived naturally after being told she wasn't able to have kids, had adopted 2.

SilverLiningPlaybook · 06/10/2022 09:02

Close family member had second baby at 46.

StewartPie · 06/10/2022 09:10

The mum was 45, healthy baby boy. It was her first. Dad was 53 I think. Certainly not younger than 50. Both were very healthy and didn't smoke, drank seldom.

StewartPie · 06/10/2022 09:11

@Ganesh2022 Why did you revive it?

Phrenologistsfinger · 06/10/2022 09:16

My maternal grandmother at 46.

BUT…I am unable to have a live birth ages 37-40, ten natural losses and LOTs of arrested and abnormal embryos later!

Having quizzed both leading embryologists (part if a Harvard study) and urologists, eggs and sperm are going massively downhill. What your grandmother was exposed to (even in utero), what your mother was exposed to in utero etc, will all be impacting on your egg quality, decades later! They all tell me that plastic exposure is behind the gradual decline of human fertility. They have known for years. Even if my children (if I have any) are never exposed to those things in their lifetime, they will still be affected, through the generations. Your children and their children will have more problems as it passes down. It’s a ticking time bomb they say but despite lobbying, governments aren’t interested (short-termism).

So the fact that my grandma managed it, doesn’t mean I will - her grandmother and mother were exposed to far less plastic etc.

PaisleyP · 06/10/2022 09:20

My mum at 48. She's now 50 and still having regular periods so I'd imagine she could still have one? I don't know. It's weird some times though having a sibling the same age as my kids. My first child and one of my siblings was born 2 weeks apart. And she had one on my 20th birthday a few years back.
Me and my little sister are planning a joint 20th and 40th birthday when we hit those milestones 😂.

Ablababla · 06/10/2022 09:27

My GGrandma gave birth to my Gran at the age of 52 in 1920

I guess contraceptives not brilliant in those days but my gran only had one brother who was only three years older that’s her so maybe that was a choice?

slowquickstep · 06/10/2022 09:28

Great Grandma had her last baby at 50, she was pregnant at the same time as her eldest Daughter.

GreyBlossom · 06/10/2022 09:37

My Grandma (born 1898) had her first child at 17 and her last at 48.
