Me, 41 and am currently 27 weeks pregnant due just after my 42nd birthday

I personally don't know anyone who had a child after the age of 38. Most of my friends had children early to mid 20's.

45 is the oldest I know where I’m certain it was natural conception. I know a couple of older mums but I’m fairly sure it was either donor eggs or embryos that had been frozen in earlier rounds of ivf.
It’s also true that some of those very old mums from years ago might not have actually been pregnant but were covering up a birth out of wedlock.

My Grandma was 52 when she had my Mum. She thought she was going through the menopause.

Rapskallion Your grandmother sounds like one hell of a woman! Makes me feel weak & weepy just thinking about that! Shock I can barely manage 2 teen ds at 48 Grin
@Threewheeler1

She was a warrior woman, honestly! She delivered them all at home and had an unassisted birth with her last baby as he came very quickly. The midwife said my granny was up offering HER tea and sandwiches almost straight away.

One of the last things she said to me before she died, though, was ‘don’t have more than two children!’ Grin.

I don’t think 14 kids was a choice for women in rural, Catholic Ireland in those days, but she coped admirably, and used to say hers wasn’t a particularly big family, as they had neighbours with 17 Shock!

  1. I believe for a period she held some kind of record. Incredibly healthy lady who used to take a fitness class with me (I was 30+ years younger than her!)

I'm actually in awe of your grandmother - what an incredible woman! As the saying goes, they don't make 'em like they used to! Grin

Roomba · 09/07/2021 14:55

My Grandmother at 48 - she had all her kids in her 40s as she only married at 39 (v late for the times) then delayed having children for years while there was a war on.

My colleague got pregnant with a guy she'd known for two weeks, aged 47 - she thought she was going through menopause! Her adult kids were appalled, but all went well and they are happily married with a ten year old now.

HBGKC · 09/07/2021 14:56

49 when they gave birth (may have conceived at 48).

Still the record, see my Telegraph link upthread.

I conceived my only at 44+5, accidentally with only half an ovary and one tube. Guess that's all it takes Grin

  1. 46 by the time she had the child. Poor thing She had had her other children relatively early, and was rather publically embarassed and mortified originally.

@HeyGirlHeyBoy

Twins at 48

The mentions of years ago are amazing really as being 50 back then was old.

Hmm
shivawn · 09/07/2021 15:28

I have a work colleague who had twins at 48, it was natural as far as I'm aware. My MIL had my husband at 46.

I am amazed by your grandmother! I'm feeling stressed and close to a break down, just with planning my IVF journey! Women like your grandma are role models!

LividLaVidaLoca · 12/07/2021 17:52

Loving these stories as I’m 40+ and trying.

My friend had twins at 50 and all her friends and colleagues believe they were naturally conceived after a fling.

She used double donor IVF in a fertility clinic but doesn’t exactly advertise the fact. I imagine many of these more recent stories are similar.

aboutbloodytime123 · 13/07/2021 07:17

I'm 43, will be 44 when #3 arrives. Complete surprise, thought it was menopause (we are thrilled, now we're over the shock!)

HeyGirlHeyBoy · 13/07/2021 08:42

What's the Hmm for PerveenMistry? Don't you know what I mean? My GM had my uncle at 46.5, she was a little old lady in pictures, compared to mid 40s women now, this was 80 years ago. She had been pregnant on and off for over 20 years. No offence was made by the comment just that we live longer now, are more energetic etc. In pictures she looks more like a grandmother, had that little plaid rolly case, headscarf, short grey hair etc. My DM married at 34, a few years before that someone commiserated with her for being left on the shelf as 34 was seen as old for marrying.

Helbelle75 · 13/07/2021 09:04

Me at 44. Had my first at 41. Now wondering if we should try for another at 46!
