6+4 and spotting when wiping :(

Hi all
This is my first and I have spent an entire day yesterday simply reading multiple forums to reassure me
I have a midwife appointment next friday and a private scan the week after
Please can you tell me if you've experienced anything similar?
Lots of TMI to follow, I apologise!
When I wipe, I noticed brown spotting on tissue and only ever on tissue. Sometimes it looks like mucus with brown blood. Its always a tiny blob and nothing more. Today it has been a mixture or brown and sometimes bright red. I know bright red isn't a good sign - is this how a miscarriage starts? Do I ring the EPU or is there no point as theres no pain or any other symptoms and I'm only spotting rather than heavy bleed?
Please help :(

It was red initially yeah I went for a pee and suddenly felt a mild cramping and looked and wiped red blood (more than spotting but not too heavy). I immediately assumed it was over and my husband and me sat for the rest of the night upset. The following 4 days I had some spotting on wiping now and again throughout the day but had no more pain. It varied between pink and red spotting. The chemicals went to heavy bleeding within a day or so so started to have hope again and tested and my pregnancy test still showed a strong line. When I called to book in I spoke to a midwife and she said it was likely implantation but I just assumed that was too late for implantation as all articles always say it's around the time your period is due. Puzzled me!

@MrsTwentyNine can't believe what nonsense 111 are talking! I never bother with them, just ring my EPU directly. If you don't have a number just ring the hospital switchboard & ask to be put through. My local one is open on a weekend. I've had bright red blood in this pregnancy & it scared the crap out of me but it turned out ok.

@MrsTwentyNine
Having just read your post I thought I would share my experience hoping that it might help.

Last Friday night I went for a wee, when I wiped there was a 50p amount of reddish brown blood on the tissue and a small amount in the toilet bowl. I woke my husband and we went to A&E, waited to be seen for 8 hours, in that time it stopped and started again and was turning darker brown.

I was assessed by the EPAU over the phone and they said they wouldn't scan me due to covid, but gave me advice.

Roll on a couple of days later I had a few small dark brown clots, however was reassured this was old blood and not to be concerned, I also booked a private scan for reassurance.

Tuesday saw our little one's strong heartbeat thankfully.

Fast forward to Friday I went for a wee and when I wiped there was bright red blood on the tissue and more than last time in the toilet bowl. I immediately called the EPAU who said because of the colour and amount of blood I needed to be seen, they couldn't see me until the day after.

I went for a scan at the EPAU yesterday and saw little one swimming around. They couldn't see anything abnormal on my scan which is a good sign and couldn't explain the reason for me bleeding.

I have been advised if it happens again to call EPAU if I have bright red blood or cramping that doesn't go away with paracetamol.

I hope this helps x

MrsTwentyNine · 04/07/2021 14:08

Thank you for that @miniGmummy
I'm going through another crying phase as I'm home alone and I needed that little glimmer of hope
Though I can now see blood on my pad so very unlikely but thank you for taking the time x

@JackJack84 @miniGmummy thank you both

EPU direct number isn't working, I'll ring via GP tomorrow. I've got period type cramping and I think I saw a clot earlier so not great

miniGmummy · 04/07/2021 14:13

@MrsTwentyNine

Can you not go to A&E? They will see you and refer you to EPAU? might be worth a shot??? keeping my fingers crossed for you xx

miniGmummy · 04/07/2021 14:15

@MrsTwentyNine remember its the weekend, they might be using a different phone number (Mine of a weekend you have to call one of the wards) xx

MrsTwentyNine · 04/07/2021 14:28

@miniGmummy that's true
My DH is at work so I'm very hesitant to go to the hosp on my own, just can't cope with it all on my own Sad

I had a very heavy bleed at 10 weeks fortunately it was just a very common subchronic hematoma. I was scanned by EPU as id had a previous ectopic but they said they don't usually under 12 weeks. Hope. all turns out to be OK for you.

MrsTwentyNine · 04/07/2021 15:31

I think I just passed the fetal sac ladies
Sorry to be graphic
It's over x
Thank you for being there for me however

Oh I'm so sorry to hear this lovely Thanks Take your time & be kind to yourself x

MrsTwentyNine · 05/07/2021 08:46

Thank you ladies @JackJack84 @2020mission

I am not bothering with the EPU or anywhere else as my bleeding is now stopping. Did you have a scan if you had a miscarriage to confirm it ? Is that necessary?

@MrsTwentyNine so sorry. I monitored mine with a pregnancy test, I was under EPU care, and they just did a pregnancy test at my last appointment to confirm the levels were going down / back to zero. If it doesn't over the next few weeks, you will need a scan to check for any retained product. I would contact your GP definitely though and let them know, as they'll hopefully help more with any future pregnancies, and be able to arrange a scan for you if needed

A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 · 05/07/2021 09:29

Having said that if your bleeding is stopping I'm not sure - I bled for 2.5 weeks at about 7 weeks. I think it's worth getting some advice from your GP for sure.

miniGmummy · 05/07/2021 09:56

@MrsTwentyNine

I am so sorry, here if you need to talk. Please look after yourself xx

miniGmummy · 05/07/2021 09:58

@MrsTwentyNine

Are you going to see the GP? Bleeding does seem to be stopping rather quickly? I would get yourself checked if you can xx

Daffodil21 · 05/07/2021 10:54

I was also told to take a pregnancy test 2 weeks later and if negative no follow up needed, if positive I would have needed to be scanned for retained products. It's a very strange feeling waiting for the pregnancy test and for once hoping it's negative.

Like PPs I think you need to be checked if the bleeding has stopped. I continued to bleed after all mine, for almost two weeks I think. Are you sure you passed the sac? (Sorry) x

I know now I have that devastating thing called "hope" now and of course googling leads to all sorts of forums like "vanishing twin" Gahh I'm sure it was , as I heard a "plop" and stuck my hand into the toilet bowl to fish it out. It looked like it... :( Sorry TMI ladies! My MW just texted me back to say she'll book me in for a scan at early pregnancy unit thank God ... I'll let you know ladies Just want this all to be over now and move on

Thank you @miniGmummy and @A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 for your replies too
I'm pushing for a scan now after all your advice just to make sure everything has come out !

2020mission · 05/07/2021 11:13

@MrsTwentyNine the furthest I got with the chemical losses was 5 weeks. I had similar bleeding to my usual period, just slightly sorer and heavier but it was 5 days of bleeding as always. I was earlier along than a heartbeat can usually be detected so never called the doctor or EPU and just took another test after the bleeding stopped to check it was negative. If you have bleeding that's at least the same amount as a normal period, followed by a negative test you are likely fine to start trying again but for peace of mind you might want to contact the doctor if you want to be checked over.

Hope you're doing ok.

Daffodil21 · 05/07/2021 11:15

@MrsTwentyNine it is possible so it is worth getting checked. When is your scan? Really hoping for a good outcome for you x

MrsTwentyNine · 05/07/2021 11:35

@Daffodil21 thank you
She's going to get back to me
I don't have much hope naturally as there was a lot of red blood even if that wasn't the sac but just want it confirmed for closure
Thank you x
