Just thought you might like to know, in case you are deciding on where to go for education and support during your pregnancy

I think they're just trying to be inclusive. The wording is a bit clumsy but I don't think there's any malice to it. Being supportive of minorities and marginalised groups doesn't have to mean diminishing or excluding others.

MerryDecembermas · 29/06/2021 22:28

"Birth is not a woman centred event."

Errr... who is doing the birthing then? Only women can get pregnant and give birth Confused

JustcameoutGC · 29/06/2021 22:29

So, how is saying "birth is not woman centered" being inclusive of women?

I don't think I could just wave this away as clumsy language, it is such a stark statement.

If giving birth isn't woman centered, then I guess nothing is.

You've got to laugh. I mean what did I just read 🙈

Just of interest @Scirocco what other minorities and marginalised groups give birth? Apart from women, I mean. You know the excluded ones.
velvethaze · 29/06/2021 22:44

I can't believe what I am reading. The world is going fucking mad. Absolutely fucking mad.

No malice in calling sensible questions hate speech? Are you sure?

Who has babies except biological women? Wear whatever clothes you like, pick a name you like, but let’s not pretend you can experience pregnancy or birth if you’re not a biological woman. Likewise breastfeeding. It requires female breasts.

FVFrog · 29/06/2021 22:58

Well, I’ve read it all now. Bloody nuts.

EishetChayil · 29/06/2021 23:03

Utter lunacy.

I don't suppose any men's health movements are returning the favour. "Prostate screening - not a men-centered event". Can't see it somehow.

GreyhoundG1rl · 29/06/2021 23:06

Comments closed due to hate speech!! Pointing out the bleeding obvious, I imagine.

The positive birth company can get to fuck.

Scirocco · 29/06/2021 23:08

That raises a very valid public health point - the current language used around prostate screening does indeed lack inclusivity of people with different gender identities and may be placing some groups at increased risk of prostate cancer.

Just as cervical screening should be available and accessible to anyone with cervix, regardless of their gender identity or preferred pronouns, prostate screening should be available and accessible to anyone with a prostate.

ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba · 29/06/2021 23:17

they might as well say "no, your butt does not look big in this"...we all know it's not true.
but unfortunately they believe their own lies and state them as facts.

I'd laugh if their bullshit wasn't so infuriating.

Movealongmovealong · 29/06/2021 23:34

I read stuff like this and can't but think this is satire ... and would be funny if not so bloody ridiculous.

We watched this sketch 42 years ago and howled with laughter .. and now it's reality uttered by people without an iota of irony .. and in the words of the pythons .. 'symbolic of his struggle with reality ..

NewlyGranny · 29/06/2021 23:53

Birth is about the only genuinely woman-centred event in existence!

I recall telling my DH and the midwife to shut up because their harmless chatter about the redecoration of the delivery room in the 3 years since we were last there was distracting me from the important work I was doing.

JustcameoutGC · 30/06/2021 07:20

This doesn't read like inclusivity to me, it reads much more like shoving women out of the way. If they want to say their birthing practices are not women centered, fine they can cater to the pregnant men. As long providers that do choose to centre women are left to it, then fine and dandy. But, I strongly suspect that any such providers would be castigated as transphobic. We aren't allowed to centre women for anything anymore.

Not like these lot to act like cranks with little grasp on reality Hmm

ApplePie86 · 30/06/2021 07:30

I started following them on Instagram after hearing how amazing they were. I had to unfollow them after seeing being all they advertise is minority people and their stories. Can't remember seeing a straight couple at all. All seemed to be very unique circumstances. Nothing against these people at all but given 90-95% of clients will surely be your average straight couple I found I couldn't really relate to any of their content.

WimpoleHat · 30/06/2021 07:31

Why does disagreeing with someone’s point of view suddenly equal “hate speech”?

MiddleParking · 30/06/2021 07:34

Quite. I’d be very interested to see how many £40-a-pops that approach yields.

EdgeOfACoin · 30/06/2021 08:53

Shame. I have a book from the PBC which freely talks about women and nothing else (it was published in 2016 or something).

I've come across one or two hypnobirth practitioners referring to 'birthing people' rather than 'women'. Fortunately, they seem to be the minority.

SunnySideUp2020 · 30/06/2021 09:34

🤨

ShirleyPhallus · 30/06/2021 09:37

I unfollowed them because of this, it seems they’re so intent on including certain groups they’re actually excluding their core demographic

jay55 · 30/06/2021 09:41

It's just another way to annoy women and exclude women with low literacy or who don't have English as a first language.

MissChanandlerBong90 · 30/06/2021 09:51

Giving birth is woman-centred and should be woman-centred. My local NHS hospital proudly advertises the fact that it aims to deliver ‘woman-centred maternity care’. As it should.

Siblingquandary · 30/06/2021 09:56

I think I just sicked up a bit in my mouth.

I'm itching to send this to my 'be kind' mother but I'm trying not to be confrontational with my family...

But as she's had a few kids this may be the something that opens her eyes....
