How can I find out where to have a private scan locally? I don't know where to look. I'm in Colchester.

It is probably obvious, like looking in the phone book or something, but my mind is blank. Where can I find out? OR, does anyone local know where to go?

Can't you ask your mw? Mine gave me details for a nuchal scan which is private. I think there may be a private hospital round you way who does them. I used to live near Chelmsford and I am pretty sure it was an option. Either there or on London - however it was 4.5 yrs ago so I expect there are more now. What about the Rosie in Cambridge - I had a friend who went there.

  • Have a look here, at the bottom of the page

In lOndon The Fetal Medicine Centre has been recommended to me by my midwife.

ohwhoever · 22/11/2007 18:11

Thanks for ideas

I haven't got a midwife

Can I be very nosey and ask why you don't have a midwife?

ohwhoever · 22/11/2007 20:44

am only 7 weeks pg and have not been contacted by midwife

NotQuiteCockney · 22/11/2007 20:46

Ah, just found a lovely link, but it's the same that Niecie posted, anyway. Two options there.

The Fetal Medicine Centre in Harley Street is good, though, world-class really. It's who we used.

babyboo1and2 · 22/11/2007 20:49

we had a private scan at a hospital in sawbridgeworth - was fab

ohwhoever · 22/11/2007 20:51

The OP wants to go local

she is also getting tired of switching her name back and forth but she didn't want to be searchable linked with this town

NQC I saw one possibility in Niecie's link, in Ipswich, where was the other one?

OP posts:
ohwhoever · 22/11/2007 20:52

oh Chelmsford

I am sure there is one locally

can I find it? No

I like this mysterious poster. Especially when she refers to herself as the OP.

Would the OP consider ringing her doctors and asking them perhaps where would be the best place?

Or alternatively the OP could go here www.essexultrasound.co.uk/index.html but this poster has no idea how close that is to where the OP lives.

I think the OP should ask the doctors receptionist in the morning.

What does the OP think to these suggestions?

ohwhoever · 22/11/2007 20:59

The OP would like to stay and flirt with the previous poster but is getting really sick of changing her name now

she doesn't live near Canvey Island

she is going to have to ring her doctors I expect but this necessitates getting her ds out of the way while she makes the phone call

she may not be able to do this soon and she is impatient

but I expect she will have to lump it

CharlesandEddie · 22/11/2007 21:01

ahhh ds -the plot thickens.......

cece · 22/11/2007 21:03

When I was that early on I found the phone number of the antenatal receptionist/central office online. It was on the hospital webiste after a bit of searching though various pages. I found them very helpful when I phoned at this early stage. Perhaps the OP could try that.

ohwhoever · 22/11/2007 21:03

the OP doesn't give a fig about being recognised by regulars

but she doesn't want her home town to be searchable as being linked with her usual name

you see

OP posts:
ohwhoever · 22/11/2007 21:03

Oh thanks cece yes that is the thing to do, perfect

OP posts:
ahundredtimes · 22/11/2007 21:06

The OP will be able to have a conversation using words like neuchal ultrasound without DS twigging I'd have thought?

ohwhoever · 22/11/2007 21:08

ooh I would not be so sure 100

yes probably

if only I knew how to say nuchal

anyway I can't find the number for the midwives

will have to carry on huffing and being impatient

OP posts:
MadLabOwner · 22/11/2007 21:08

Try Holly House in Buckhurst Hill as they will be able to help you - I nearly went there for nuchal scan last year. Or you could try the ISIS fertility centre which is in the Colchester Business Park - they are an infertility place but have all the scanning stuff there anyway for their patients and might (a) be able to see you or (b) tell you where else to go

ibroughtcake · 22/11/2007 21:10

I know I know I know

here they are lovely

ibroughtcake · 22/11/2007 21:12

I have had all my private scans there

At about 8 wks and then sexing scans at 16 wks.

They are lovely if not too nice, they even warm the jelly up for you. The scan is on a big plasma screen on the wall so you get a really good look and they really take their time and show you everything you want to see/explain everything.

Can't recommend them enough

ibroughtcake · 22/11/2007 21:14

If you call your GP/midwife they will refer you to the oaks hospital because they do them too.

But they are much more expensive and not as nice (we had our first sexing scan there).
