How can I find out where to have a private scan locally? I don't know where to look. I'm in Colchester.

It is probably obvious, like looking in the phone book or something, but my mind is blank. Where can I find out? OR, does anyone local know where to go?

Wait ... are Colchester and Chelmsford not the same place? Still? They should fix that ...

NotQuiteCockney · 22/11/2007 21:18

Nuchal = 'new-cal' FYI.

NotQuiteCockney · 22/11/2007 21:18

(My MIL used to do scanning for a living. Oh, and Prof Nicolides or however the hell it's spelt invented it, and we met him once at the fetal medicine centre. Just come to London, damnit, they're very good there, and you can stay at ours ...)

ohwhoever · 22/11/2007 21:19

NQC

thankfully not

new-cal? Really? not Noo-chall?

Yes the one off Lexden road.

Not sure how expensive for an early scan, we had a sexing scan and it was £100 I think so probably more than an early scan would be.

Um I liked Chelmsford one more because it was more personal and we always treated it as a special day out there. The clinic is very nice and I liked that DP could see everything on the plasma screen thing and you get lots of nice pictures with it. The Oaks is fine though, they get the job done and are very pleasant with it (plus if you are in Colchester the no drive thing is a bonus obv).

ibroughtcake · 22/11/2007 21:25

DP says I am stupid and not the one off Lexden road that is the county hospital, oh I don't know will have a think where it is.

ibroughtcake · 22/11/2007 21:26

Mile end road

NotQuiteCockney · 22/11/2007 21:26

Have confirmed with DH, it is NEW-cal. Deffo no 'ch' sound.

When I am Queen of the World, I will alphabetise this entire sodding country. Between Brighton/Brixton/Bristol and Colchester/Chelmsford/China/Cheddar ...

ohwhoever · 22/11/2007 21:27

oh ok, I was thinking of the one on Oaks Drive, you know where the out of hours doctors used to be

I will try the Oaks hosp, it being local is definitely a plus

Why do you need to get it done privately? Is it so that you can get it done before Christmas so you can tell? Or are you just too excited to wait?!

ohwhoever · 23/11/2007 08:19

I am going to be 12 weeks on Christmas Eve and I would imagine, looking quite pregnant

I absolutely don't want to tell anyone before I have had a scan

I know when I was pg with ds that the NHS refused to do the scan a day before 12 weeks, and I somehow doubt they are going to fit me in on Christmas Eve

It is stressing me out, my family want to know if / when they are going to see us

the best thing is just to book a private scan for when I am about 11 weeks, IMO

i'm in col too!!! where are you? i had a private nt at babybiond in chelmsford at 11 weeks. they were fab. see www.babybond.com

crunchie · 23/11/2007 13:58

To thhe OP, why do you have to have the scan first? I might be daft, but scan or no scan tyou will still be 12 weeks pg, why would having a scan a week earlier change this??

crunchie · 23/11/2007 13:59

the other option is to lie about your dates. Tell them that your last period was about 3 - 4 weeks earlier and then look suprised at the scan!!
