Pain in right ribs

Hi, I’m 30 weeks pregnant and under my right boob I’m getting horrible pain, it hurts to breathe in and any which way I’m lying it hurts, I’m not getting pain in my chest it’s all in my ribs and under the boob, I don’t know if it’s normal or not? She hasn’t really moved this morning either so I don’t know if it could be her in my ribs or that she’s still too small at 30 weeks to be in my ribs yet? Just want to get some advice! Thanks.

Please get advice asap as this was a symptom of pre eclampsia with me.

birdling · 27/06/2021 11:01

Also a symptom of preeclampsia for me. Get blood pressure checked immediately.

thetroubleis1 · 27/06/2021 11:01

Thanks, I’ve rang 111 waiting for them to call me back now!

If u have reduced / different movement please go into the hospital ASAP
The pain could be her foot but like pp said could be a sign of something else

thetroubleis1 · 27/06/2021 11:24

Should I ring the maturity unit then of waiting for the call back from 111?
Sorry first time mum and just not too sure what to do in these situations!

Yes, I would. You are likely to be seen quicker. 111 can take ages.

birdling · 27/06/2021 11:39

I was in pain like this for several days. I thought it was perhaps gallstones, so I waited until I had a routine midwife appointment a few days later. I was in such severe pain by that point that I was crying. I had no idea about the preeclampsia symptoms. Anyway she checked my blood pressure and urine and was sent straight to hospital, where I stayed for 7 weeks until baby was induced early at 35 +6. She was tiny, only 4lb 2oz. But fortunately completely healthy and only in NICU for 10 days.
So get checked now, but don't worry if it is preeclampsia, they look after you really well.

Mseddy · 27/06/2021 11:39

Ring your maternity and they will get you straight in to be seen for the reduced movements. They will check urine and BP while you are there anyway so that should help with the possible pre eclampsia symptom. If you have it packed I'd take your hospital bag with you just incase (I'm saying this at 29+4 without a bag packed!! But you might be super organised) good luck

birdling · 27/06/2021 11:41

Oh and the pain wasn't always constant. Sometimes it went away, which was why I waited so long before getting help.

JJSS123 · 27/06/2021 11:41

100% ring maternity unit straight away this is a sign of pre eclampsia please don’t bother with 111 x

thetroubleis1 · 27/06/2021 12:34

Thanks everyone waiting for the maturity unit to ring back to see wether I go there or to a&e x

birdling · 27/06/2021 12:42

Hope all is well. Please update later if you can.

JJSS123 · 27/06/2021 12:44

How frustrating for you i can’t believe they’ve mentioned a&e you are under maternity care should be no questions they should of said come straight in got you on the monitor and checked obs and blood test all of which can be done on maternity without a trip to a&e. You’d think with covid they’d be trying to keep pregnant women separate from who knows what could be in a&e!!! Hope you’re ok

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 27/06/2021 12:47

Don't bother with 111, they are so useless. I'm still waiting for a call back 5 MONTHS on ConfusedHmmShock

Really hope it's nothing but I remember that pain well even 20 year on ,better to get it checked.

ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba · 27/06/2021 12:50

could be gallstones/gallbladder. it was for me.

best of luck

20viona · 27/06/2021 12:56

I had this problem. You need to go to MAU and have bloods done as it can be HELLP syndrome which is a type of pre eclampsia. Luckily I didn't have it but the rib pain lasted until my daughter was born.

thetroubleis1 · 27/06/2021 13:01

Thanks everyone! Maturity unit have told me I need to go to a&e first so I am gutted really because I’ll be waiting even longer to be seen now instead of going straight in, on my way there now!

birdling · 27/06/2021 13:11

Best of luck. Flowers

BirdIsland · 27/06/2021 13:11

This was a symptom for pre-eclampsia for me too. Make sure you are really clear about where the pain is, and any other symptoms. There is a blood test to assess risk of pre-eclampsia now, maybe ask if they can do that just in case?

JJSS123 · 27/06/2021 13:12

If it were me I’d be ringing back and explaining as this is potentially a pregnancy related condition and you have concerns for yourself and your baby and you feel at this point the baby’s movements should be checked over, that you feel it would be best for you to attend MAU. You will be able to have your baby checked over and your own obs and potentially a blood test in the time it would take for you to even be triaged at A&E. I’ve honestly never known a maternity unit to send someone over to them. Even if it isn’t preeclampsia that should be ruled out by them first. Don’t let them pass you over!

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 27/06/2021 13:30

Glad you're being seen, take a book and a snack and update when you are able. Good luck Smile

interest12 · 27/06/2021 14:09

Oh I had this about 3 weeks ago. Rib pain right under my right boob…hurt to breathe, cough etc. my physical therapist worked on it and it cleared up about 5 days later.
But should I be worried it’s something else . Asumes it was from rib cage stretching out

Fran919 · 27/06/2021 14:43

Hi all,

Just jumping on this - for those that had it @BirdIsland @20viona @birdling did you always have high blood pressure above the NHS guidelines of 140/90? Mine is normally low but now the higher end of normal they’re not concerned but wondering if it’s going to develop…

Thanks x
