Pain in right ribs

Hi, I’m 30 weeks pregnant and under my right boob I’m getting horrible pain, it hurts to breathe in and any which way I’m lying it hurts, I’m not getting pain in my chest it’s all in my ribs and under the boob, I don’t know if it’s normal or not? She hasn’t really moved this morning either so I don’t know if it could be her in my ribs or that she’s still too small at 30 weeks to be in my ribs yet? Just want to get some advice! Thanks.

@Fran919 no I never had high BP. My
Midwife was very good though and she referred me for tests due to the rib pain alone.

@Fran919 my blood pressure was completely normal, until it wasn't! Totally normal readings throughout pregnancy, started with pain/vomiting at 36+3, slightly raised BP the next day, full blown pre-eclampsia with through-the-roof BP 5 days later (only picked up because I went into the maternity unit with reduced movement) and I was induced there and then.

Good luck. Phone maternity assessment next time and go straight there.

@Fran919
No, my blood pressure was usually fine.

Could also be rib flare, where baby is pushing on your ribs as it grows. I had this in whole third trimester, it was so painful. Moved from my back to my front. I used to have to lie down every 20 minutes wherever I was to relieve the pain! Disappeared instantly when baby was born.

Fran919 · 27/06/2021 17:02

Thanks all, it’s been on and off for a few weeks. I’ve had my routine appointments (31w) and nothing has been picked up but I didn’t mention it either but baby and constantly been all knees on that side so I imagine the kicking / stretching is all near that rib but I’ll mention it next time and keep an eye out.

OP - let us know how you get on Smile x

Heya, just got back, I told a&e that I need to be seen in the antenatal clinic they agreed not sure why antenatal sent me to a&e first made no sense, didn’t get any answers at all the midwife couldn’t wait to have me in and out, put me on the monitor for 5 mins did my blood pressure and said I have to come back tomorrow and that was that I was sent home! So still no answers on the rib pain at all!
@seepingweeping I rang the maturity unit first but they sent me to a&e for some reason, the midwife on the phone palmed me off there haha but a&e sent me back up because they didn’t think I should have been seen there at 30 weeks with signs of preeclampsia!

I did ask a load of questions too and kept asking about the rib pain and why I need to come back tomorrow instead of being seen today and everything she told me that she’s not too sure but they’re happy to send me home so had no answers at all today hopefully get some tomorrow!

Also to clarify the midwife that saw me in antenatal was the same midwife that sent me to a&e first of all!

How strange! Glad you've been seen though.

ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba · 27/06/2021 17:56

@thetroubleis1

glad you've been seen.

I don't know if you saw my earliest post but I still wonder if it's to do with troublesome gallstones or inflamed gallbladder.

do you also have pain in right shoulder (or across top of back)? and does pain come on suddenly or gets worse after eating fatty food?

I had 2 incidents while pg (explained away as indigestion/heartburn), 1 during birth (totally dismissed and ignored) and 1 only 3 weeks after giving birth (misdiagnosed as gastroenteritis).

When DS6 was 6 weeks old I had biliary colic (very ill, 3 nights in hospital), scan revealed I had lots of gallstones.
When he was 3m old I had my gallbladder removed.

please get them to check it out. the pain is excruciating and you'll likely need a cholecystectomy after baby is born - if it's the problem
