How much weight did everyone gain?

I know its a very personal question so please only answer if you feel comfortable.
Basically I have always struggled with my weight and it took me so long to lose 2 stone and I can't stop worrying about gaining all of it back so was curious how much weight did people gain after they had given birth and waiting for the swelling to go down ect.
I'm trying to be as healthy as possible but I am so hungry and also in so much pain that exercise is limited for me and I already feel like ive gained too much weight at only 24 weeks pregnant. They say you're suppose to gain around a stone at 24 weeks... I've gained 2..

I never weighed myself apart from when the hospital did at my 12 week scan. I have no idea and I am so glad I didn't as I wasn't constantly stressing about it. Of
course you're going to gain weight - you're growing another human! I would have only thought about it had my midwife/doctor raised any concerns during the course of my pregnancy. I am 13 weeks PP now and am 3kg lighter than I was at the 12 week scan. Please give yourself a break and enjoy being pregnant.

SmidgenofaPigeon · 21/06/2021 12:22

14lbs at 27 weeks. And actually I feel pretty lucky because I thought it would be more. But it’s not a competition. I will say it’s helped me a lot to still be active with lots of walking in my job and swimming a couple of times a week, plus seem to have dodged the ravenous appetite and not really eaten more than usual. As long as I eat regularly, and breakfast is very important to me these days where it didn’t used to be.

I’m aware I’ve still a way to go though, and will be less active when I start maternity leave at 35 weeks.

But don’t be hard on yourself OP- I’m lucky that I don’t feel too achey or in pain, or work from home and have easier access to food- it would be a different story in that case I think.

I started out losing a stone in the first trimester, only to put it back on and some more. I'm roughly 4 stone heavier than before pregnancy and I'm 37 weeks with a supposedly massive baby.

Chelyanne · 21/06/2021 12:23

1st 4st, a lot of fat gained as I was terrible with food.
2nd 4st, much bigger baby. I dropped 2.5st straight after birth and another 7lb once swelling had gone down.
3rd 2.5st, 7lb heavier after birth.
4th & 5th twins, stopped weighing at 2st gain. Was only 7lb heavier after birth.
This one I'm 2.5st up at 31+6, my weight has been hovering around the same since 16wk though and hoping to keep it that way until birth. Just had a growth scan and baby is another very big one.

DisgruntledPelican · 21/06/2021 12:26

I gained a lot, about 3 and a half stone, despite exercising throughout as I was just constantly hungry. A midwife raised an eyebrow at one of my later check-ups, 38 weeks ish, but noted that I was a regular weight at booking-in and said that was OK.

I lost weight quickly after the birth but then put it on again when I returned to work and had the time to eat cake again

DisgruntledPelican · 21/06/2021 12:27

Should point out the baby was 8lb 7oz, so not particularly big, despite people guessing they would be 10lbs+

ButtercupBlue · 21/06/2021 12:29

I know it's easier said than done but please try not to worry. It's normal to gain weight during pregnancy and although I get why you'd be anxious about gaining back the weight you've lost, remember that this isn't quite the same. You'll lose some of it immediately when baby is born as baby + placenta + fluid + blood will account for a fair bit in itself!

I wasn't one of those women who pinged back immediately and slipped into a pair of skinny jeans but the weight came off gradually and by my baby's first birthday I was lighter than I'd been pre-pregnancy with him.

Fwiw, I have two children and both times I ended up at the same weight just before delivery- first baby I weighed more to begin with and was very sick for 10 weeks of the pregnancy and put on 2 stone overall, second baby I was lighter to begin with, wasn't sick at all and gained 3 stone in total.

I am pregnant again now after several losses and had just worked very hard to lose a stone before ttc and ideally still had another stone to lose but with my history of MC that's the last thing on my mind now so just walking every day and trying to eat well most of the time.

If you're generally eating well and doing some gentle exercise when you can manage it then I'd say try not to stress too much.

Rumples · 21/06/2021 12:32

I'm almost 29 weeks and so far I've put on 7kg so just over a stone.

Amberheartkitty · 21/06/2021 12:32

None with first, a stone with second. Five stone with the third and the fourth. It came off relatively quickly after the birth. I kept a stone on from the last two and have kept that ever since. I’m older though now and just accept it.

PurplePansy05 · 21/06/2021 12:34

7kg at nearly 33 weeks. Every pregnancy is different, a lot will depend on how active you are, water retention, singleton/multiple pregnancy of course. Don't worry too much!

LCF2021 · 21/06/2021 13:45

Easier said than done but try not to stress too much about it.
With my DS I gained 2st, was very active throughout pregnancy (2x dog walks every day, training at the gym 2-3 times a week), dropped 1st immediately after delivery and the rest came off in the first 4 months.
Currently 33+3 with DD and I’m definitely less active as I have less time and also a bit more into biscuits than I was first time round 🙊. So far I’ve gained just under 2st so I’m expecting to go up to about 2.5st. I’m sure it’ll come off again, but I’m in no rush…your body takes 9 (let’s be honest, it’s basically 10) months to grow your baby so don’t put pressure on yourself to drop the weight straight away.

Moopermoo · 21/06/2021 13:55

3 stone at 38 weeks Sad bit disheartening but I’m sure it was something similar with my first (didn’t have scales) and I did get back to about 6lb over pre pregnancy weight reasonably quickly

itsme · 21/06/2021 14:00

I went from 12.5 stone down to 12 at 16 weeks and right up to 15st 11 at term +3. Baby was 8lb 7. I took the eating for two a bit too literally.

sarah13xx · 21/06/2021 14:06

I went through a phase of really wanting to know what I weighed at 20 something weeks. I’ve now passed the 2 stone mark (don’t know how much by) but I’m 32 weeks and really don’t see any point in knowing now so I’m not weighing myself. I’m going to weigh myself just before my due date to see how much I’ve lost by having the baby but I don’t see the point depressing myself in the meantime. Lucy Meck has a 1 year old and is skinny and toned as anything, she gained 4 stone when she was pregnant! So I’m really trying not to worry or compare myself

Tilly18101 · 21/06/2021 15:58

I was 11 stone pre pregnancy at 5’7, I’m 11st 6 at 20+4 now, so 6lbs gain but I haven’t changed my eating habits much luckily, and I was very bad with wine before pregnancy so I think I’ve maintained my usual calories by replacing wine with biscuits instead!

I thought I would have gained more by now, but it’s my first baby and I don’t really have a bump yet so I think I’ll start gaining now bump has appeared a little bit!

BigusBumus · 21/06/2021 16:03

Weirdly, pregnancy is the best diet ive ever been on!

Eating clean and healthily for the baby, lots of fresh fruit and veg, limited cheese and most importantly (for me) a massive daily reduction in calories as not drinking any wine!

Couple that with dreadful heartburn and hardly any room in my stomach to fit any food as my baby bumps both times were high and round and squashed my insides to nothing, like having a Gastric Band fitted!

Both times I was a stone lighter at my week check than before conceiving! Soon put it back on though, with the ability to fit more food in and drink wine again! lol

Nat4392 · 21/06/2021 16:43

I gained 11lb throughout my pregnancy. I lost quite a bit in the first trimester due to sickness and then by the third trimester I just couldn’t really eat! Baby was 7lb9oz

FeistySheep · 21/06/2021 17:10

I'm about as far along as you OP, and I just weighed myself, just for you! I've put on a stone.
I haven't been weighing myself regularly because I can't see the point. I try to eat well (ish) and I can monitor whether it's working by looking at other body parts (ie not belly and boobs)! So as long as I'm not looking massively porkier on the arms/legs/face I'm good with that. It came off quickly after my first, so see no reason why it won't again.
I know it feels a bit depressing when you've struggled with weight in the past, but so long as your making a reasonable effort with healthy eating and exercise then you really just have to go with the flow until after the birth.

FeistySheep · 21/06/2021 17:11

Sorry just re-read your OP (I should do that BEFORE I post!) and see you're struggling with exercise. Are you sure there's nothing you can do? Even swimming?

JeanClaudeVanDammit · 21/06/2021 17:14

1/2 a stone, but I had a BMI of 31 to start with and was diagnosed with GD at 24 weeks so lost a bit as a result of the strict diet and exercise. I left hospital with 8lb DC considerably lighter than pre pregnancy.

(Put it all back on during maternity leave but that’s another story Confused)

notsogreenthumb · 21/06/2021 17:16

Lost 1.5 stone due to morning sickness. At 3 months was back to wedding weight. At full term never weighed myself but was approximately 4 stones heavier. Horrible! No curves here so it's all on my belly. Lost 2 stones but can't budge the last 2, even with constant breastfeeding.

Sceptre86 · 21/06/2021 18:31

First pregnancy I gained a stone and baby was tiny due to failed placenta. Second baby I overate as I thought first one being tiny was my fault and put on 5 stone. He was 3lb heavier at birth than his sister. This one I had put on 7lb between the 8 week booking in appointment and my 20 week scan. I am 30 weeks tomorrow and don't intend to weigh myself until baby is here. After I have recovered I need to get on and lose a lot of weight which will require a lot of willpower and dedication but will cross that bridge when I get to it.

shivawn · 21/06/2021 19:15

Im also 24 weeks, no idea how much weight I've gained. To be honest, I'm not one bit worried about it because I think its out of my control for now anyway. It's all in my bump and boobs.

BigfatJ · 21/06/2021 19:15

2 stone

ElinoristhenewEnid · 21/06/2021 21:56

8 st 12 lbs to 9 st 12lbs with 1st = 1 stone

8 st 6 lbs to 9 st 11 lbs with 2nd = 1 st 5 lbs.

Went back below pre pregnancy weight with both
